Excellent work again Trev. Nice to see you cover lots of other general things you might come across rather than just bang bang bang make two nucs. I am sure I heard someone say in a frame waxing video he did not like plastics- but used them in honey supers? Availability of wax foundation changing your thinking?

Good topic for a series thank you. What will you do with the main hive that now had no queen in it? Let them make their own or add a queen cell?
If you had known that there wasn’t a queen in the hive would you still have killed all the queen cells?

    Hi Trev,
as a beginner I don’t understand the reason to kill the queen cells you found only to have to graft. Is this to have more control over genetic’s.?

Would proper hive practise be to put the top box flush with the underside of the hive mat on top of the lid so that the queen cant escape out the bottom of the top box?

Trev do you put open brood in to split or all closed brood?

What did you do for the hive that you left queenless?

I like your English and personality.. i gave up grafting I'm making queens zero error with jenter systems.. but I admit when beekeeper make a queen genetics not superb. Reason of the bees alarm mode. Bees chose under stress and fraid of die. True nature swam bees chose queen from best eggs and they are free and calm.. my advice give grafted cell top of box use queen excluder. Dont use starter alarm mode hives.Like natural conditions bees chose best eggs. Maybe number of success dramatically decreased but trust bees they know which eggs be queen.. try it please you see all diseases and loses will decrease.. USA %70 bees losted why because beekeepers chose queen under stressed. 100 year making some mistakes.. Love from Anatolia..

Are the horses any issues being that close to the bees?

Once they get stung a couple of times they keep their distance.

I would Like to know the what happen here, the top box on the excluder was the one that had uncapped brood in it, yet the bottom box that had the excluder on it had no eggs as that’s where the queen was spose to be. Did you manipulate the hive boxes on that hive ?

Trevor Gillbanks ...not a problem was trying to figure out how the brood and box arrangement came to be , thanks for the reply much appreciated , cheers. 🍻
