    Yesterday, any day in the past💡Thank you for sharing these with us, I do my own repairs and am always learning, but you must first have a great teacher for the best knowledge. You are a great teacher. I would help you repair them all. I love to fix broken things especially people and instruments, the two go hand in hand.

    I believe the original French definition of the word "Luthier" actually meant "Maker Of Lutes Until My Wife Kicked Me Out". The Slovakian definition is similar which when translated is "My Violin Tools Are Now On Ebay". Excellent videos here!

    I've seen using a small suction cup - pounced up and down to get the glue deep into the crack instead of the twist method. Try it!
    Thanks you for your information

    Daniel, sir, I may have missed it, but I was wondering what type of wood do you use for your patches?

    Enjoy your seeing your work and hope to see many more! I see that when you repair the top you use Hide Glue? Why? Thank you so much for showing us your master skills!

    How about clamping the patches with neodemium magnets? will those do the job?

    Does the hide glue penetrate the grain of the timber and hold the surfaces fast.
    I repaired a damaged 1952 Dallas guitar with damage to the birds eye maple back and neck, I used cyanoacrylate glue and two pack automotive clear coat to finish as I thought the hard glue and clear would not dampen the sound. When finished it sounded very nice and stayed in tune and was later purchased by a guitar teacher. I did get a lot of criticism for my use of the type of glue and paint, but the guitar was found in a dustbin in two pieces and NOW its not.

    Is the direction of the grain of the cleat perpendicular to the crack or parallel to the crack?

    I recently acquired an old violin that was stored in an attic
    for years. I removed the top to repair some of its’ cracks and noticed the wood
    is quite dry and brittle is there anything I can put on the wood to help
    preserve it that will not total destroy the sound quality of the violin ?

    • @AVDanielViolin
      @AVDanielViolin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the sound will not be the same, for worse or even better. keep trying!

    Thank you for this video. Do the violins you make sell in California? Are there any violin shops in California that you are familiar with and you would recommend? We are looking for a professional quality instrument with that rich sound and projection. We have been to many shops and found that a high price does not always mean good sound quality. You have traveled the world, is there a country or city that has better value violin shops? We have listened to you play your violin and know that you have an ear for that special sound quality.

    You are a true artist craftsman. I bet you miss your ex wife so so so much she sounds like a sweet caring delicate soft spoken lady. It was not you she did not care for it was the smell of glue. Glue can be very upsetting can make someone smash things and jump up and down. Thanks for your great videos.

    I have a question why is hide glue better than epoxy to fix the crack on a violin?

    • @fontunetheteller410
      @fontunetheteller410 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Mechanist violins are meant to be taken apart for maintainable every few years. Epoxy is too permanent. Hyde glue becomes brittle after awhile and can be removed with warm water. This makes it much easier to take apart.

  • @jpmad3152

    Just a thought......how about a can of compressed air to "blow/force" the glue into the crack? Adjust the distance of the can to the work so as not to blow the glue out.

  • @TheGoldsholl
    @TheGoldsholl 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm Sorry but I feel that you failed, as you could have added stain to the glue. By gluing the wood crack you prevent the wood from absorbing any stain, which guarantees the crack will always show.
    It seems obvious that you would have added stain to the glue before you inserted into the opening.
