At some point I have to make this happen. Instead of getting the 2.8 I just put 10k into the XJ for a Colorado trip with my dad, he couldn't give us a vacation so I'm giving him one. He loves camping and wheeling and his health is going so it was kind of a rush job. Soon I will grab another Jeep and put this in. I can't wait to get this!
Is there a finance plan to get the engine because some of us aren't made of that kind of money to drop all at once ? but would be able to pay it off in payments.
If your credit is decent get yourself two credit cards with decent credit limits. Get them from large banks so you can take advantage of a specific deal. Discover card is very generous with their credit limits. Here is the trick. It works, I've been doing this for the last 7 years to avoid paying any interest. Make your purchase with one of the cards. Get online, or call your other credit card company and ask them for their balance transfer promotion. Usually this involves paying no interest for a year or even 15 months. Transfer the balance to the second card and pay it down as much as you can while you have your zero% interest rate. Then after the 12 or 15 months, simply transfer the balance back to the first card using their balance transfer promotion.
A personal loan from your bank would be preferable to the CC trick since there is always a several percent transfer fee for the “0%” interest rate and funky fine print.... A day late and the rate jumps to mobster levels guaranteed. I’d think Cummins would eventually assist with financing much like buying a trailer or motorcycle/ATV.
@@gwolf7716 The transfer fee is usually only 3% or less and it is a one time charge. A personal loan from a bank is going to be not only a higher interest rate, but also will charge you every month. And you shouldn't be worried about making a late payment. You should be paying all your bills on time anyway. And even if you don't have the money to make a payment one month, you can always just make the minimum payment that month and you are fine.
I am building a 1949 F1 and want to put a 2.8 Cummins. My only concern is that if I purchase the motor it's going to take me over 90 days to finish the build and the warranty will expire before I can even get the truck up and running. It would be nice if the warranty was based on engine hours or someway to allow us to build our projects and have the warranty start when we actually start using them. That is the only reason I have not purchased mine yet.
You guys should provide ecm mapping software for upgrades . Thats why your 5.9 series engines are so popular no matter the generation they can be tuned.
Would this motor be a decent replacement for the avg V8 in a 1/2 ton (Ford/Chevy/Dodge) pick-up truck and still be able to tow our weekend toys (boat, (two)horse-trailer, car-hauler etc)?? Or should we wait on the tba next Cummins Repower engine? What displacement might that tba motor be?? Thanks!
if you look at it it has about 30-40 less HP (around 160 while a stock 70's 305 is about 200), but I heard they can be relfashed to about 200 HP with obviously more torque (looking at putting it in a 69 GMC)
I know it is "rated" for a 4000 pound jeep - but with a few power adders/retune could it manage in a 4300 pound truck? Looking to repopwer my 69 GMC into a diesel and figure this would be perfect! The specs loosely match the stock 305 that is in the truck now....

I would love to swap one of these into my 98 4Runner but I seem to be having trouble finding information on a automatic transmission to pair with the engine, any suggestions?
I wanna use this for my 06 Ram 1500. It currently has a 5.7 and I definitely want something more fuel-efficient and unique. My guess is I'd have to source a GM transmission, but that's ok. It's a dodge so I guess you could call it "preventive maintenance".
@cumminsengines So where does the customer take their jeep when they can't figure out a fault code? Do they go to the nearest cummins facility? I'm guessing there's a 3 pin connector for a cummins tech? Could always tap in to the data link if not.
Hi, Kal! There are several companies making adapters for this engine. The most common setup we have seen is to use an adapter from the R2.8 to a GM bolt pattern, and then a second adapter from GM to the Toyota transmission. We’d also be surprised if someone hasn’t already (or has one in the works) to go straight from the R2.8 to Toyota. Check out Axis Industries and Advance Adapters (or a quick Google search may highlight some others).
I wonder how well this would fit in a 2003 trailblazer, put this bad boy in there and find a way to fit a standard transmission behind it and it might not be bad, I know my current setup is pretty efficient, I get 20mpg at 75 mph with a 4l60 and 3.73s I have the vortec 4200 and there’s not too many hills I can’t get up in cruise control, it doesn’t even downshift
@CumminsEngines if it's in the customers best interest to separate the ecu from the engine why not include a protective cover besides "put a plastic back over" a wiring harness that only God knows the cost of? Help us out with some factory goodness.
You'd need either a gm or jeep transmission & probably an adapter plate. I just priced the motor, adapter plate, and an ax15 jeep 5 speed tranny (no flywheel or transfercase) at 12,327.02. With all the extra fabrication youd need (building motor mounts, tranny crossmember, etc.) I wouldn't sell it for a dime under 20k

Might want to look into a different trans. Some people use jeep transmissions because of the rev difference between diesel and gas engines. I'd look into it. Diesels normally redline at 3,900

Having a good small truck to go and do what I want and get mileage like 30 is nice.
Im honestly considering on swapping one of these in my uncles chrysler imperial to make it a daily driver. It seems like it would get good mileage and get the car up to highway speeds without an issue. I wonder if you can bolt it up to a torqueflite transmission. He doesnt drive fast anyway so this would be perfect!
@CumminsEngines, how can someone get a hold of a 3D CAD model of the engine? (even if it's just an outer shell) I'm trying to lay out an MB in CAD, and want to install the R2.8 in it. Please tell me you can help with this request!
And unfortunately, that's the problem. SEMA won't let the CAD enthusiast become a member, even if you want to pay the fee. I know quite a few people that would gladly pay the fee to be able to model their favorite rig to build, but because they aren't a business, SEMA won't grant access. Lots of these people (myself included) work in the engineering/design field, and we're used to non-disclosure agreements. I'd gladly sign and abide by a non-disclosure agreement so I could have an actual model to put in the rig (Willy's MB) I'm wanting to build. That ain't no moister wicking bag! that's a VCI bag and it's coated with some sweet ass chemicals that coat the parts inside with anti corrosion crap. Many VCI's are hazardous but green ones are coming onto the market.
Hi, Will. Thanks for watching the video! We find that if you do some research, the price is competitive within the new crate engine market, especially when you consider everything that is included in the kit. To purchase a comparable E-Rod engine as well as everything we supply, the end cost is very similar.

I have a 1995 Toyota T100 3.4 5VZ 4x4 Manual Transmission (same engine and drivetrain as Tacoma) has anyone thrown one of these in?
🔷♦👁👁👍cummins lo mejor del mundo muy buen motor
I was expecting a beautiful RED ROSE on top of wrapping.well schucks
Has anyone put one in Nissan Xterra ?
I am planning to do a mod on a 2000-2002 dodge dakota 4wd 4door transmission to fit
Someone school me, it makes less horsepower and torque than the penastar. I do get that it has good low end torque and it'll last longer being diesel. But if I can make more torque at a little bit higher rpm why would I want this engine?
Eric DeLong if it has to be explained you probably will never get it. Get yourself a test ride in diesel and then maybe you will
OK. They've been out for awhile now. Where's the performance parts?
What do you mean?
Sinister Stephen Google Cummins R2.8 performance parts and you don't get anything. Tuners, turbos, intakes, etc.
Try offer this engine to pt.pindad indonesia for maung
Where is the R2.8 built?
How much?
I'll stick with the old tried and true 4bt and 6bt. Just look at all those problems waiting to happen on the 2.8
great presentation thanks
So do you not need the MAF sensor if you are doing an EGR delete?
Goddamnit it's not a mechanical throttle body??
Welp there goes using this engine
That ain't no moister wicking bag! that's a VCI bag and it's coated with some sweet ass chemicals that coat the parts inside with anti corrosion crap. Many VCI's are hazardous but green ones are coming onto the market.
Cummins rocks.
Is this engine made in china and no parts are available?
What no safety brief on the zip tie? How disappointing...
My heart sank when I saw all the plastic parts 💔
What about a/c
I would wait till it has been around for a few years to get all the bugs out
Wowwie, WOW.... 53,100 views. I guess this bad boy isn't only on my extreme list wish,. I sure wish it wasn't $9000.
Isn't this crate engine chinese built?
Nice engine, contents etc. But the price is HIGH, to HIGH !
Hi, Will. Thanks for watching the video! We find that if you do some research, the price is competitive within the new crate engine market, especially when you consider everything that is included in the kit. To purchase a comparable E-Rod engine as well as everything we supply, the end cost is very similar.
Why would you go out of your way fabricating to have emissions equipment on it when the equipment is only going to destroy the engine
Nice!
Does it run on biodiesel!? Would be nice to see a video of one running BD
That's so pretty.
Someone said alot off plastic parts, even oil pan
