Good video topic. Easy to get off track and purchase frivolous items. Know yourself, know your context. Food, water, shelter, medical, self-defense, and connection to a community.

Ive been an avid backpacker and bushcrafter, and I have learned over the years of listening to youtubers like yourself that a lot of the gear from both disciplines can crossover into building a good BOB - the gear you show is really helpful and attainable for the novice and practiced prepper

I built a get home bag over the past few months! I now carry it with me wherever I go! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tapped into my supplies knowing they were right there in my bag! Bandaids and ointment, headlamp for late night dog walks, sunscreen, dental floss and toothbrush, clippers, snack bars! Etc. Having so little control in these times, I find being prepared is one way to get that control back!

You definitely have the right priorities. Three things to consider. 2. The ease 4 is a great all around knife, yes it can throw a spark due to it being carbon steel. However carbon is prone to rusting and it takes alot more time to clean and sharpen just due to the nature of the steel. My favorite is a mora Garberg stainless steel. It’s good you bring a stainless steel single wall water bottle. I was getting worried that you weren’t going to add one until you did at the end lol. I do recommend to get a cup that fits the stainless bottle just to make sure you can boil water, dump the water in the cup, then boil more water in your bottle while your drinking the boiled water in your cup so you can get hydrated while acquiring more boiled water. (I swear by the indestructible usgi surplus NEW canteen cup. Most durable cups on the market. If you can afford titanium canteen and cup sets then you get all the benefits mentioned but also save the ounces in weight. Speaking of weight, the third thing I recommend you try out is an item called the T6ZERO survival tarp. It’s xenon material that is a survival tarp that only weighs 6 ounces. It packs very small, you can put it into your pocket, and it holds up well. It’s made by a bush rafter in PA called coalcracker bushcraft.

Thanks for the video. I keep a bit more food in mine, and a small pill bag with 72 hrs of my prescription meds and an emerg. bivy-bag. I have a 72 hr bag for my wife also, which I put in a roll-aboard / convertible backpack (we're generally in or around a city, so no heavy overland E&E). I eliminated the ferro-rod and striker, which she couldn't use anyway, and put 2 more lighters in her kit. I also gave her a simple, razor-sharp Mora knife instead of a "survival" knife and saw (which I keep in MY kit). I keep $200.00, Pics of our family and photocopies of our important docs in each of our kits, also.

  • @laxdrew9

Add ranger bands, rubber bands, or some small shock cord to put the tourniquet on the shoulder strap. Underwear and socks in a ziplock. But the backpack itself is the smartest part of this video, because a long walk with a big old bag of stuff is gonna hurt, and you could move pretty easily with this pack.

Make sure to have all the things to MAINTAIN or PRESERVE your preps no matter WHEN you get them. Boomsticks? Have stuff to maintain and repair them. Food? Have mason jars you need lids and ways to seal them. Like a food saver to dry seal them and a canner to traditionally can stuff.
Have various mylar bags and oxygen absorbers to store dry goods long term. Make a list of items you need to maintain your gear. Oooh and stay organized. No good to have gear and not know where it all is or where parts of it are. Unfortunately that is my problem at the moment...lol

I start my bag with the opposite thought. I start with a larger bag, and have way more stuff than I need. I keep it in my truck and should I need to bug out with my bag, I can quickly get away and then shed things I don't think I'll need according to the situation.
