The approximate location would also allow a retaliation and with an air launched torpedo, the sub would have its work cut out for itself. A modern ship would stand a good chance of defeating the hit. A much better option is a supersonic torpedo that finds the ship by pre programmed target with a passive terminal seeker. A ship of 10K tons of steel has a large magnetic distortion. I think that would provide a better chance of not being detected or countered.

@@theidiotskiller6589 but the Poseidon will lurk in depths greater than submarine because its unmanned and P8 has it's own limitations as its RADARS are limited to maximum depths of 350-450m and in greater depths detection becomes more difficult. But I will still bet on P8 I think not now but in future it will be capable to hunt down Poseidon. What do you think about this?
I guess the maximum depth for the russian Shkval-e of just 30 meters is a mistake?
I think its not. Creating of underwater "cavitation bubble" deeper is complicated due to higher water pressure there. Shkval is special weapon with quite narrow possible usage (it was never intended against submarines for example). Thats probably why Russians dont developing it into some more advanced version and focusing on more classic design of their new torpedoes.
It's probably correct. Shkval was designed to be used as a defensive torpedo, enemy warship is rushing your position, you launch it and it reaches the target within some seconds, very hard to avoid
