For the people who wonder about the differences between the Greek and French frigates. Actually it is the same FDI ship but the Greek frigates will carry more weapon systems, it would be more heavily armed than the French hence the Greek frigates are called Kimon class.
I think that's a bad choice, watch the FRA/ITA Navy, they have specialized frigate for anti air or anti sub tasks, to mix everything together is risky. An anti-submarine frigate is equipped differently than an air defense frigate! It starts with the listening systems, quiet sailing devices, and different radar systems need a lot of computing power and specialized teams! Normally, each frigate is designed for a specific role, and there are reasons for that! I think the Greek wanted all in one to save money, hoping they are able to do the task with one frigate. But if there is a submarine threat and an air threat at the same time?
@@Ezekiel903 not exacly, these are Digital multi-role Frigates. There are not the first multi role Frigates. I get your point but this was an issue with old technologies. Now the technologies have been improved to support multi-role ships. Furthemore Greece has already purchased the most advanced anti-submarine helicopters for the upcoming Frigates (the American made MH Romeo).

Yes Greece had ordered 4 and needs about 12 total FDI Kimon class frigates and a modernization of the submarine fleet. Perhaps 12 Type 214 and another 8 French Scorpine class (I think they are called that)and in my opinion another 12 frigates of older types upgrade to air defence and antisub capabilities and a total of 24 Rousen class missle boats maybe 36 missle boats or yes i am crazy enough to say it 48 heavily armed missle boats.

I'm not sure. But there is going to be 2 other ships for the royal netherlands navy, I just don't know if the first on will be commissioned in 2025 or in 2026. If I'm not mistaken this will Aldo be multipurpose frigates, in a combat support coastel defence task. I now I read it somewhere I just don't remember where.😅

For peacetime VLES it carries 16 cells but in case they are prepared to carry another 16 VLS
Cause the Italians have guided IR/radio/GPS 76mm ammos and 127mm shells, combat proven. Wich mean less missiles used for small targets (drones, small boats) wich mean more cost effectiveness (the cost of a guided ammo is not the cost of a missile), wich mean less needs of a lot of VLS. Plus Italy will soon fit direct energy weapons. In few words: Italians shoot down drones, fighter jets and small boats with their 76mm guided ammos. They shoot down huge boats and land attack (up to 180km with their 127mm GPS guided mini-missiles shells). And they keep missiles for more serious danger or targets. It's called being smart.

Also they specified the "12 NOTABLE European vessels". If your Spanish S-80 or something isn't there, it's because it is not counted as Notable. Just because it burns bioethanol does NOT make it special or worthier than any other ship on this shot list.
