  • We have a good look at the Royal Enfield Classic 350 from the point of view of taller riders, and establish whether or not it would be suitable for people over 5'11" 180cm +
We also discuss a few questions that came out of our review, which include the weight of the motorcycle, and power and torque and whether it is enough.
You can also hear the bike riding again! It sounds amazing!

Good stuff. Royal Enfield have figured out that many people want well made but basic modern classics at a reasonable price and they are not available from other manufacturers.

I bought a chrome red one to replace the classic 500 I stupidly sold last year and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm obviously biased but I honestly think it's one of the best looking bikes out there, I sometimes find myself wandering into the garage to have a little look while my tea is brewing. And the exhaust note is surprisingly meaty too, I was sort of expecting a slightly 125-ish sound out of it but I was pleasantly surprised.

Congrats on your new bike and do you feel the difference in power from your old classic 500 and in ride quality/handling

    • @marclurr
      @marclurr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@dview3176 the only thing I sort of miss is the torque, the 500 was a tractor. But the new engine and gearbox are on a completely different level in terms of quality, and the bike doesn't feel like it's going to rattle apart at higher RPMs. Handling has felt very similar to me, but I'm no expert in this area!

Yes, I was just about to ask if this was available here in U.S. I own a RE Int 650, would like to add one of these. Much cooler than the Meteor 350 I think. They don't make the 500 Classic anymore either. Too bad.

I picked up the Classic exactly 2 weeks ago and after 290 miles cannot get over the quality of this bike. Goes in this Thursday for its first service having returned 100 mpg after the first 160 miles, that’s on a brand new tight engine. For me after 52 years riding on countless bikes owned or ridden this bike just makes me smile and enjoy every ride. The British Racing Green model after 3 coats of Carnuaba wax the shine from the paint is outstanding, was even commented on by a non riding friend when she saw it in the sunlight. Other than having heated grips fitted that look factory finished, I will be leaving this bike in its stock finish.
In a nutshell I can see this being my last bike it is that impressive.

i ride a Yamaha xv1700 road star here in the UK but have two old 350 Enfield bullets in storage in India, I'm also 6'2" and have no problems. One of the bike i have is stored in South Goa and the other is stored in a place called Manali in the Himalayas, for the last 25 years that 350 has taken me on some of the most amazing motorcycle rides of my life, travelling all over the Himalayan mountain range and with a 15 tooth front sprocket it's carried me up and over some of the most formidable mountain passes in the world, me being 220lbs plus luggage, no problem.

@@rosslevitates Cheers Ross, in reality while there are plenty of manufacturers in India the Enfield is the most popular, easy to fix and parts are readily available, but it's the sound of those singles that do me, that thud thud, nothing like them. Thanks guys. What strikes me about this bike is it is a quintessential simple no nonsense motorcycle. 350 cc single, modern yet a real simple classic and with over 100 mpg, that has to be a major bonus. If motorcycles were still a utilitarian mode of transport this would be there with the ''buttie box'' or top box on the back chugging off to work, as they were back say 60 years ago (most are leisure machines today; not all of course). I don't have a height issue as a 5' 8'' guy, bikes like this are sweet.
I can see this as a commuter par excellence. But I can also see it as a fun back lanes chugger a bike to take in the scenery with. I am glad you both rate it. Interestingly it does seem manouverable too. I say that as an older rider. When you head North of 60 years (I am 65), sometimes the heavier and larger machines can be a struggle - it appears this one isn't too heavy. In the looks department I would agree , it has a lead over the Meteor. It really has that classic look. Well done RE. A stunner.
Guys are you going to do a review of the soon to be released BSA 650 ? That bike looks an absolute film star. I suspect you'll love it and I'd be interested to hear your comments on it. It seems to have captured the BSA ''spirit'' certainly in the looks department.

I’m 6’4” and just traded a Guzzi V85TT for a classic 350. Love it, simple, well thought out, easy ride…plenty of power for me and my bride. I’m over power and torque and the rest; I just want to smile when I’m burning up country roads and this does it.
In comparison to the V85 for room…feels almost the same with my wife on the back. Together we are 400 lbs, vast majority me. I feel like it could handle more although it is rated right at 400, fyi. I am working on shaving that weight off as I type. 😊

Great vid! Here in CALI, we just bought three of these last summer! I'm 61, and have been riding for over 50 years. This is the smallest bike (engine wise) I've owned in over 30 years, and it's the most fun I've had since my first ride! I got one for me and my son, and his girlfriend's father as well.
No matter where we go or what we're doing, we get stopped and asked about them.
I'm also a big guy - 6'-4", 230 lbs. It's 100% comfortable - after I moved the bars back slightly and changed the gear shifter up one-notch. Perfection, even with the wife on the back.
If you're considering one, go have a look (and test ride if possible). I don't think you'll regret it and I'm guessing you're going to love it!

I'm currently slightly considering picking one of these up as a "just a short trip around town" kind of bike. My current bike is a 1800 intruder. Pulls like a locomotive on the highway and eats miles like lucky charms, but at almost 800 lbs she's a heavy girl and quite cumbersome to lug around on the driveway and the tent I use for a garage. From a price point of view a Royal Enfield would be absolutely superb. I've never bought anything brand new previously. Might have to head out on a road trip tomorrow to the dealer for a test ride.

Really good review, precise and to the point. I am 5'6", and having spent over an year waiting for Meteor, I happened to give a try on this two days back. Surprised to see how nimble and smooth new Classic 350 in J platform is designed. Way smoother than earlier ones having eliminated the vibrations and unfortunately the thump as well. I now prefer this over meteor any day.
It may be heavy on paper, but doesn't feel so once you are seated. Coming to the varients, this Halcyon black you featured looks best, followed by the signals grey which has a good paint job.
PS: Must also mention that your countryside looks heavenly, classic is worth trying on those roads.

We all probably look at it and think it's small when in actual fact it's probably a lot bigger than an original and I doubt we would have even considered finding fault with it for size back in the day. Bikes are like cars, compare an original VW Polo with today's offering and it illustrates the point, people will say it's small but once upon a time it would have been a good sized family car. Still say you don't look out of place on it! 😂

If you get the full length one piece seat, the contour is much better for taller riders. It allows you to naturally sit back a little farther and the contour gives you a little bit of lower back support. Slightly higher handlebars really help too in feeling more spacious.

It would be great if you could please mention your inseam length when discussing ergonomics and rider comfort. A rider's overall height isn't nearly as important as inseam length. Due to different torso/leg proportions, someone at 6'2" may be fine on a bike but another at 6' may feel like they're sitting off the back of the seat because their legs are 2" longer. It's a frustrating but common mistake most all Vloggers make when reviewing motorcycles. (No matter, you guys are still my favorites and I really enjoy your videos)
FYI, I'm someone with long legs and an average length torso 😉

Evening all, I liked the first video review and based on that booked a test ride at the Madrid bike fair next Thursday. I like the idea of trading down to a smaller bike. But this weekend, I went for a 750km blast with some mates on my GS on some serious twisites. I know that I wouldn't be able to do this on a RE 350 and I'm just not sure I'm ready to give that up or whether I can justify to myself or my wife having two bikes. Decisions decisions!

An accident, now age, has shrunk me below 6', but the legs are still suitable for a grasshopper. So while stating your height is useful, not nearly as useful as your inseam (and maybe even your arm reach). Thanks!
