Yes, all Splatoon lyrics are gibberish. I believe this was done for two reasons, one to make localization in different countries easier, and two the fact that Splatoon is a post-human Earth where languages of today probably would not still exist, especially with characters that evolved from cephalopods rather than primates. I would like to point out the katakana/hiragana difference of Pearl and Marina's lyrics can't be seen in the screencaps in the video since that's the romaji version, and like I said the phonemic inventories of both syllabaries are the same (they make the same sounds with different symbols) so the difference can't be seen in the romanization.

My theory on the tree in Spike's scheme is that it's not a tree, it's a mushroom cloud. The mushroom cloud is just a metaphor for making the prices of the sea-snails go sky-high. Then, he makes money off of using his monopoly on sea-snails to sell them to other urchins or just anyone who wants them. After that, he searches for new locations to run his scam when he eventually gets found out using his laptop. From there, he offers services in exchange for sea-snails, and the cycle continues.
It's crazy how one of the most cartoony and cute shooters can be one of the most dark and lore-heavy shooters in the entire game industry under the surface. I love that about splatoon.

1:01:50 Personally, I usually try to see which Japanese syllables were used for the gibberish instead of trying to find actual words. Mainly due to how Nintendo also gave us the lyrics to Calamari Inkantation and they were all Japanese syllables, including ones that are rarely used.

As a gay splatoon fan myself, I really like pearl and marina's relationship. They're not canonically a couple of course, but I feel that they're well written and obviously care for each other very much. I hope Nintendo doesn't mess it up with some dumb 'gal pal' nonsense.
I wouldn't mind a gal pal situation if done with the right context, kind of reminds me of some of the friendships I have. But we can all see that there's more to it than a gal pal situation definitely

I always thought that the starter screen and that one area with all the IV packets were where they kept the subjects. Like a sort of hospital or institution, where they might have been administered the sanitization goo as a kind of medicine or something. Maybe they kept the subjects in containers until they needed to pull them out because of other subjects passing/failing.
I think what you've said is right on the money. The participants lay dormant somewhere while they unknowingly await their testing.
55:40 I always thought it was implied that Marina is a former member of Turquoise October. The version of Ebb & Flow found in Octo Expansion's chat logs has samples from the Hero Mode of Splatoon 1, there's the common theme of Turqouise, and a few other hints and ideas that support this.

My theory is that in Splatoon 1, the Octoling goggles did not have mind controlling capabilities; more likely, Octolings were simply oblivious to Inkling life, and only saw them as oppressors. If anything, I believe pure patriotism to the Octarian cause is what kept Octoling armies around. However, after the Calamari Inkantation first played and Octolings became dissatisfied with working under the Octarian regime, DJ Octavio most likely implemented the hypnoshades into the uniform of any remaining Octolings to keep them in control. As well, I believe any and all Octolings that didn’t make it to Inkopolis in time were hypnoshaded and sent back into the military, to be obedient to Octavio once again...
This is just a theory though.

I doubt all the test subjects were blended. I remember hearing that a lot of test subjects just dropped out and didn't complete it. I'm sure he still got tons of blended creatures but most definitely not all of them.

It seems to be implied that only the test subjects who succeeded (supposedly gathered 4 thangs, considering the amount of blenders on NILS' cannon) were blended. ("Tartar: From the best and brightest test subjects, I created a sludge of Supreme DNA. A primordial ooze from which the ultimate lifeform will emerge.")
I have to say that another intrepretation for the post-boss screams exist is that it's the octarian cities starting to crush on the peoples without the energy left (the music on the radio that you heard most of the time is just here to cover these sounds)

I have a theory a bit like the the mind control glasses. Remember the item you could get for free from marina by downloading an item pack themed around the last splatefest? it looked like a helmet except it had a glowing screen on the front. I think that if marina won, she could've mind controlled everyone.
Octoling goggles are NOT mind-control systems. In the credits, one of the pictures depict Agent 3 wearing the goggles and messing around, completely of their own free will, while an octoling asks for them back in an irritated manner. Then again, with Octavio defeated, the mind-control may have stopped working. WHO KNOWS
I honestly kinda prefer the octoling Pearl to the final version we got. I think her design looks a lot cuter that way.
Edit: I can't believe we in the West missed out on the contest winner at 22:35. It looks so sick. I hope something like it is in Splatoon 3.

I know this was from a year ago but I wanted to share since this is very exciting for me, splatoon text actually is decipherable! Rassicas and several others have been hard at work deciphering the different splatoon scripts (they even have names for each script) and a lot of them have been cracked. We've been able to translate some things because of it, including the creation process of the great octoweapons!

As for Marina's dialogue being written in katakana it's likely to imply Marina is a "foreigner" in Inkopolis. Makes sense as she's an Octoling. In Japanese they will transcribe text or dialogue completely in Katakana over Hiragana to imply it's their second language.
Yes, Katakana is primarily used for loanwords but in media it can be used to imply they aren't as familiar with the language.

Amazing!!! Absolutely amazing!!! Splatoon feels like a series that was made for questioning and theorizing more then other Nintendo games which is really cool! And the iceberg and the ideas you and others brought to it are really cool!

Splatfests were scored differently in Splatoon 1, since there were only 2 categories: popularity and battle tally (there was no separate tally for team play)
The formula was the pop percentage + 6 x the win percentage, for a total of 700 distributed points between the teams.
