TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE: Join me on a solo adventure through the soon to be demolished slums of Tacloban City, notorious for their filth, squalor and poverty. Despite the challenges faced by these communities, the happy and friendly locals are known for their vibrant and resilient spirit. In this video, I take you on a solo tour through the narrow, noisy and dirty alleyways of the neighbouring barangay, to witness the poverty ridden lives of the Filipinos who call these slums their home ‪@DrewsTravels‬

We continue on this intimate and heart warming adventure, as we witness the reality of daily life in the slums of Tacloban City, and the resilience and determination of the human spirit. As we delve deeper into this poverty ridden community, we witness it's shabby makeshift homes, whilst experiencing the warmth and hospitality of the friendly and welcoming Filipinos living there. We chat with the locals and gasp in amazement at how they maintain such a happy and vibrant spirit, despite living daily amidst such filth, squalor and poverty.
We hear the squatters share of the City Government's plans to demolish these neighbouring barangay and relocate the residents to a far larger and distant slum. Sadly this friendly, welcoming, unique and vibrant community, a tribute to the strength and determination of its people, will soon be lost forever. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to capture and document the lives of these impoverished, yet happy and friendly communities for the world, before they are sadly destroyed forever.

Excellent video…lots of information and detail. I’m British living right now in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, Mindanao. What always strikes me is how many Filipinos have very little but they’re always smiling and chatty and happy to have their photo taken.

I haven't yet visited Mindanao, but of all the Philippines islands I have, truly I never met such poor yet happy and welcoming Filipinos as those on Leyte.
