I switched to US Mobile last month and it feels like getting out of a 20 year abusive relationship with verizon. paying less than half the price for the same coverage (uses verizon towers) and more data.
I scrolled down here to suggest MVNO's in general and US Mobile in particular. Just moving to them will cut your plan by at least half. When using the suggestions in the video ("data saver" options in your phone) you can really work US Mobile's custom plans. For example, instead of getting enough text messages to cover your worst month, buy only enough to cover what you use on average and buy a big block of texts. Those roll over. Data is the same.
My wife and I have been using US Mobile for over a year now, they are great. It seems like every couple months they improve their plans and make the app more user friendly. For example, we pay $25 per line for unlimited talk/text and 12GB a month. 1 year ago we could only get 5GB a month for that price at US Mobile. One downside is sometimes the speed is slow, despite having good coverage. But that varies depending on your situation/location.

If they have a monopoly they may be ripping you off (like the power company). Cell phone companies have competition. If you think a company is ripping you off, switch to another company. I use Boost Mobile. 6GB data/month, unlimited talk and text. $35/month including taxes. The catch is that the coverage isn't very good, but it works great for me 95% of the time.
@@luanamendes4767 While possible, I believe most dont use the amount that the providers "cap". For example, xfinity/comcast I think is 1.3TB which is 1,300 GB. And if you do go over once in a while, they usually waive the charge maybe like one or two months in a year.

@@luanamendes4767 I thought that was a give-in. I've never heard unlimited data from home internet providers. Maybe if you bundle with phone and cable. Xfinity only gave us a list of limited data plans for our home internet. Most were very generous data plans and we were only looking for exclusively home internet, not to bundle, but limited data plans none the less.
I only have 3 GB of “day-tah” on my phone, I’ve only gone over one time when I was driving an abnormally large amount. I circumvented this by downloading my Spotify playlists and google maps at home before I went out and had no issues after that.
@@TKUA11 well he downloaded his Spotify playlist from wifi so it makes sense that if he wanted a game or app that is that big it would've been done via the hotspot.
5 years ago, my husband and I were paying $150/mo for Verizon. Now, our US Mobile plans are $20/month each. Plans where you pay for what you use is definitely the way to go. We have to buy our phones outright but that also helps us use our phones until they are dying instead of getting a new one every 2 years.
So what I learned from this video is since I use almost all of my 50 GB limit I’m getting a pretty awesome deal. I work a lot on the road and I stream a lot of educational videos for my students. It sucks that everyone else is getting ripped off though.

I've noticed as a 23-year old that there is a weird trend of friends/family implicitly blaming/resenting individuals for lacking "personal responsibility" in their actions, especially when my friends come from places of priviledge, and it's disturbing how we look at poor people because that "isn't our problem" or "I made it out fine" type of attitudes!
I'm middle class and I constantly see people live better (more lavishly) than me even though they make 1/2 of what I make. It's hard to be sympathetic when they run into money problems. The people who are truly poor (who live at the poverty level) are not included in the group I don't have sympathy for. Minimum wage is rough... However, where I live McDonald's, KFC, Wal-Mart, etc. are paying $11-12/hour. Decent apartments can be found for $1,000/month for a 2 bedroom. If you have a roommate and you both work that is enough to make ends meet. $11*40*52/12= $1,906/month... You will need to get your taxes back and get government assistance for health care.....
Well most homeless people in my town of Portland are homeless by choice . They would rather spend all their time abusing substances and not have responsibility. And I agree, it is our problem because they use our tax dollars without contributing anything to society besides garbage and graffiti
I missed you guys and you’ve helped me through out this tough year.$45 for unlimited data at 22GB unthrottled the rest potentially throttled . I’m an essential worker but don’t stay on site for lunch and breaks. I kept upping my data and using 19Gb-25GB months to month. So it saved me to just go for $45 a month prepaid instead of paying $25/$35+$10+$10+$10. $55/$65 vs $45. I ended saving more and getting more. I follow forums for finding the best prices year round. 2Cents, Love your videos 💛 Talking of carriers, in India, almost all of them have cleverly changed plans, which in one aspect are slightly more expensive. Earlier we used to pay for voice calls and data separately. And the data plans started from few MBs and days. So, essentially we could enjoy voice calls without even having an active data plan. However, now these companies have schemes that combine both calls and data plans. You need to pay for both even though you might need just one. They have erased all other cheaper options! For e.g. I pay nearly ₹350 for 84 days which includes 1GB data/day, free voice call to same network and 3000 minutes on other network. Many a times, I dont even consume half of these but end up buying same plan as no other cheaper option is available.
thank you for the message at the end of the video. I am a Youth Housing Case Manager and i struggle daily when my clients come to me with too high of rent cost. These are young people who either don't have a lot of education because of their age or they don't have a lot of work experience. Both reasons to pay someone low wages. Their wages cannot keep them housed and unfortunately every one of my clients has already been homeless before. It is so hard to find them affordable housing with the markets the way they are. My employer is a non-profit that offers them low rent studio apartments but grant-funded programs only allow them to be here for so long. They have to find other housing after 18 months and that's not a lot of time to earn more income and then they fall right back into the same cycle of being unable to afford housing. It sucks that it is my job to keep them housed and find them something affordable but there is nothing affordable.

That's curious: a phone/internet common plan in italy (data usable on the whole UE) is: unlimited SMS, call and 50GB 4G, around 6-10€ every 28days (~13 month)
There's not enough regulation on phone plan pricing in USA like other utilities. Also, phone companies like to roll the cost of handsets into phone bills (probably at a markup).

In my home of rural Carroll County, GA, building codes have been amended to squeeze out single family low-cost housing in favor of McMansions that bring in more tax revenue. In my hometown, there are EXACTLY SIX homes for sale. Three are over a half-million dollars. NONE are affordable for most residents of the area. Good properties are on the market for hours, not days. The tax commission is the reason that lower-middle class families actively are chased away.
I spend 2/3 of my income on housing, and the final part of the video really surprised me for good. Just hearing your opinion about it, about how it is bad to live like this, reinforce my willingness to do more to change it. I'm 25 years old, I sometimes feel a little tired of not being able to live a plenty life, one about just caring about the things "that I enjoy" and when I do, I feel guilty. All cause when I start thinking about how our generation entirely is having a bad time trying to get a 🏡 home sweet home. A shared feeling in my country. That's why I spend my procrastination time looking for motivation to keep growing, find a solution and be ready to really be able to have a family to grow ourselves for good. I never really thought about this. I always assume unlimited plans were better. The prices didn’t look that drastically different. Also I think I like the safety of the unlimited plan, sometimes you don’t know what you will be doing in the future or where you will be and may need to use more data so that assurance that you have unlimited data is nice

Oh, I know exactly how many MB's I use. The last few years I lived in an area with metered internet, it's $25 per 1GB. You keep very close track of your data, or you could spend $1000 on internet for this month...
Just scrolling through ATT's website I can find a 12 month prepaid advance plan. Appears to be their cheapest plan by far. It looks like I could get a higher cap and pay half as much per month if I were to move to that plan. That said there are often a lot of extra fees other than the big highlighted sticker price and I haven't actually gone through the cart to see what the 'final' price would be. Won't be surprised if access charges/etc push it up a fair bit.
Excellent video! I was recently looking into this and realized I usually use less than 1 GB per month! And even during travel with poor WiFi it only went up to 6.6 GB, which would be well covered by one of the cheaper plans. Wish I would have looked into this years ago but better late than never I suppose! :)
Remember instead of investing on expensive plans get a good vpn instead. You can use public wifi without any security issues and save money on plan data
This is why I love my current carrier (Consumer Cellular) so much. It's meant for older people so it's got quite a lot of holes in its phone lineup. But the pricing structure is amazing. It basically splits the difference between "pay as you go" and a contract plan. You pay each month, but instead of a contract you're phone just gets shut off if you don't pay, but it doesn't effect your credit score. For data you pick a plan and aren't locked into one plan. You pick your plan, and if you go over your just bumped up to the next level. No fees, just a change in plan you can change back later. I wouldn't dream of switching to anyone else.
Also to actually answer the question asked. I now don't know how I pronounce that word. I think I might use it differently depending upon the context, but I might mainly say Day-ta.

This something I wish more people considered! I have wifi at home, work, the gym, and at school. The only time I really use data outside of them is for Spotify or using Google Maps, but you can download albums/your local area to save data. So I just got a year of 3gb a month (as I usually use less than 2) from mint for $15 a month, they use the T-Mobile network (Which I had before) so nothing changed in terms of coverage, the only thing that did was my bill!
Can't relate with this episode. Here we buy phone and sim card separately. I use prepaid, it's a hussle to top up every month, but it's cheaper since I can change it everytime based on my needs.
That's why I use Pay As You Go with monthly limit on card charge :) 1GB - €2 Unlimited data (300GB FUP with slowdown) - €14 Since I used on average ~3GB/month of data I usually stay on per 1GB plan :) (yeah sorry, it's in Europe not USA)
@@TheBoxingNinja I added that in - I use around 3GB (that means usually 3x 1GB plans as some MBs transfer over since the plan is always "from a day of activation" meaning if I use first 1GB in 13 days and it reactivates I have fresh 30 days to use them all up :) (so if I use 2,5GB in a month then I have "extra" 500MB at the start of the next one. So for me it's monthly usually €6 for my plan vs €14 unlimited offered by telco. Which means I usually save around €100 a year on my data.

My phone plan is quite cheap, around $20 a month for unlimited data. It's this cheap because we have a legacy family bundle or whatever it's called, where we got like 7 family members to sign up. Since then, the deal has been discontinued, but we still have it for the really low price. However, the carrier is T-Mobile, and they don't have the best service. I don't use my phone much anyways. But I definitely did experience how fast data gets used up by streaming HD videos when I visited my family in Paraguay a few years back. On our farm, we had to climb up a big tower to set up a modem for WiFi, and we paid by the GB. Watching one 20-minute video chewed through the initial 2 GBs we bought, and I realized that I really couldn't watch videos there. It's a blessing here in America that we have better access to WiFi. We are doing the family plan for 15gb data for 4 phones + home internet on one company: AT&T. But the bill is still at least $300/month and reaches to over $400 in some cases without including overuse charges. We do use a lot of the home internet.
I started with a 1 GB plan. If I needed more, I would upgrade later. It turns out I normally only go through 300-600 MB per month, and even if I quit using wifi, I would still get by with just 2 GB.

As a Canadian I agree. The only thing going for the Canadian carriers is that Canada is bigger and less populated than the US so operating and initial costs are higher in proportion. Also, the cost of internet in Canada vs the US makes me cringe
At 8:40, as a landlord I can speak to this. The vast majority of low income renters are HIGH risk! Most landlords don't want to deal with the drama, risk and problems associated with most low income renters. When tenants can't pay rent their problems and burdens become our burdens and if we can avoid it, why wouldn't we? Dispite what tenants think most landlords are not rich. And maintaining a property is far more expensive than tenants realize. In 2018 I spent $41k in one property alone, in Columbia SC area!! The fair market rent was only $1400/month.

No, those are unfortunately real charges in the good old, United States, the country that loves to say that it's the best in the world. When we travelled to Europe I was shocked on how low the data plans were, seeing ads on the newspapers while riding the awesome trains there back in 2017. I'm serious. We still have a two-phone plan that gives you a whole 3 GB to *share* a month. It currently costs, $115.00 a month. (106.89€) But hey! We get free unlimited texting, and the unused data rolls over! Back before 2010 when we didn't have smartphones, texting, or SMS used to cost .20¢ *a* text, or about .15€.
It's also often cheaper to get away from the big companies. For instance, you can get the exact same network as Verizon but with another carrier (search "verizon equivalent carrier"), because those companies basically buy access to Verizon's network and then sell much lower priced plans.
PdaNet+ shares the Internet access of your Android phone with your computer or tablet Basically he's using his dataplan as a hotspot for his other device. There are some usecases for this but it's almost always cheaper to get a real internet connection instead.

Talking of carriers, in India, almost all of them have cleverly changed plans, which in one aspect are slightly more expensive.
Earlier we used to pay for voice calls and data separately. And the data plans started from few MBs and days. So, essentially we could enjoy voice calls without even having an active data plan.
However, now these companies have schemes that combine both calls and data plans. You need to pay for both even though you might need just one. They have erased all other cheaper options!
For e.g. I pay nearly ₹350 for 84 days which includes 1GB data/day, free voice call to same network and 3000 minutes on other network. Many a times, I dont even consume half of these but end up buying same plan as no other cheaper option is available.
thank you for the message at the end of the video. I am a Youth Housing Case Manager and i struggle daily when my clients come to me with too high of rent cost. These are young people who either don't have a lot of education because of their age or they don't have a lot of work experience. Both reasons to pay someone low wages. Their wages cannot keep them housed and unfortunately every one of my clients has already been homeless before. It is so hard to find them affordable housing with the markets the way they are. My employer is a non-profit that offers them low rent studio apartments but grant-funded programs only allow them to be here for so long. They have to find other housing after 18 months and that's not a lot of time to earn more income and then they fall right back into the same cycle of being unable to afford housing. It sucks that it is my job to keep them housed and find them something affordable but there is nothing affordable.

That's curious: a phone/internet common plan in italy (data usable on the whole UE) is: unlimited SMS, call and 50GB 4G, around 6-10€ every 28days (~13 month)

There's not enough regulation on phone plan pricing in USA like other utilities. Also, phone companies like to roll the cost of handsets into phone bills (probably at a markup).

At 8:30, you didn't answer the question of why communities are banning new affordable housing. In my home of rural Carroll County, GA, building codes have been amended to squeeze out single family low-cost housing in favor of McMansions that bring in more tax revenue. In my hometown, there are EXACTLY SIX homes for sale. Three are over a half-million dollars. NONE are affordable for most residents of the area. Good properties are on the market for hours, not days. The tax commission is the reason that lower-middle class families actively are chased away.
I spend 2/3 of my income on housing, and the final part of the video really surprised me for good.
Just hearing your opinion about it, about how it is bad to live like this,

I never really thought about this. I always assume unlimited plans were better. The prices didn’t look that drastically different. Also I think I like the safety of the unlimited plan, sometimes you don’t know what you will be doing in the future or where you will be and may need to use more data so that assurance that you have unlimited data is nice
realising how much Americans pay. Here in Ireland, i have unlimited for 13 euro a month and if i had been quick and got a deal i couldve paid only 10 a month.

Oh, I know exactly how many MB's I use. The last few years I lived in an area with metered internet, it's $25 per 1GB. You keep very close track of your data, or you could spend $1000 on internet for this month...
I have never encountered a carrier that makes you pay for a full year in advance for prepaid service, its always been a monthly charge.

Just scrolling through ATT's website I can find a 12 month prepaid advance plan. Appears to be their cheapest plan by far. It looks like I could get a higher cap and pay half as much per month if I were to move to that plan. That said there are often a lot of extra fees other than the big highlighted sticker price and I haven't actually gone through the cart to see what the 'final' price would be. Won't be surprised if access charges/etc push it up a fair bit.

Excellent video! I was recently looking into this and realized I usually use less than 1 GB per month! And even during travel with poor WiFi it only went up to 6.6 GB, which would be well covered by one of the cheaper plans. Wish I would have looked into this years ago but better late than never I suppose! :)

This is why I love my current carrier (Consumer Cellular) so much.
It's meant for older people so it's got quite a lot of holes in its phone lineup. But the pricing structure is amazing. It basically splits the difference between "pay as you go" and a contract plan.
You pay each month, but instead of a contract you're phone just gets shut off if you don't pay, but it doesn't effect your credit score.
For data you pick a plan and aren't locked into one plan. You pick your plan, and if you go over your just bumped up to the next level. No fees, just a change in plan you can change back later.
I wouldn't dream of switching to anyone else.
Also to actually answer the question asked. I now don't know how I pronounce that word.
I think I might use it differently depending upon the context, but I might mainly say Day-ta.

This something I wish more people considered! I have wifi at home, work, the gym, and at school. The only time I really use data outside of them is for Spotify or using Google Maps, but you can download albums/your local area to save data. So I just got a year of 3gb a month (as I usually use less than 2) from mint for $15 a month, they use the T-Mobile network (Which I had before) so nothing changed in terms of coverage, the only thing that did was my bill!
I pay 6 dollars a month with an unlimited data package in Finland.
Data is the new oil. Thus, we purchase it always in excess so we never get in a tricky situation.😂
Can't relate with this episode. Here we buy phone and sim card separately. I use prepaid, it's a hussle to top up every month, but it's cheaper since I can change it everytime based on my needs.

@@TheBoxingNinja I added that in - I use around 3GB (that means usually 3x 1GB plans as some MBs transfer over since the plan is always "from a day of activation" meaning if I use first 1GB in 13 days and it reactivates I have fresh 30 days to use them all up :) (so if I use 2,5GB in a month then I have "extra" 500MB at the start of the next one.
So for me it's monthly usually €6 for my plan vs €14 unlimited offered by telco. Which means I usually save around €100 a year on my data.

My phone plan is quite cheap, around $20 a month for unlimited data. It's this cheap because we have a legacy family bundle or whatever it's called, where we got like 7 family members to sign up. Since then, the deal has been discontinued, but we still have it for the really low price. However, the carrier is T-Mobile, and they don't have the best service. I don't use my phone much anyways. But I definitely did experience how fast data gets used up by streaming HD videos when I visited my family in Paraguay a few years back. On our farm, we had to climb up a big tower to set up a modem for WiFi, and we paid by the GB. Watching one 20-minute video chewed through the initial 2 GBs we bought, and I realized that I really couldn't watch videos there. It's a blessing here in America that we have better access to WiFi. We are doing the family plan for 15gb data for 4 phones + home internet on one company: AT&T. But the bill is still at least $300/month and reaches to over $400 in some cases without including overuse charges. We do use a lot of the home internet.
I started with a 1 GB plan. If I needed more, I would upgrade later. It turns out I normally only go through 300-600 MB per month, and even if I quit using wifi, I would still get by with just 2 GB.

As a Canadian I agree. The only thing going for the Canadian carriers is that Canada is bigger and less populated than the US so operating and initial costs are higher in proportion. Also, the cost of internet in Canada vs the US makes me cringe

At 8:40, as a landlord I can speak to this. The vast majority of low income renters are HIGH risk! Most landlords don't want to deal with the drama, risk and problems associated with most low income renters. When tenants can't pay rent their problems and burdens become our burdens and if we can avoid it, why wouldn't we? Dispite what tenants think most landlords are not rich. And maintaining a property is far more expensive than tenants realize. In 2018 I spent $41k in one property alone, in Columbia SC area!! The fair market rent was only $1400/month.

No, those are unfortunately real charges in the good old, United States, the country that loves to say that it's the best in the world. When we travelled to Europe I was shocked on how low the data plans were, seeing ads on the newspapers while riding the awesome trains there back in 2017.
I'm serious. We still have a two-phone plan that gives you a whole 3 GB to *share* a month. It currently costs, $115.00 a month. (106.89€) But hey! We get free unlimited texting, and the unused data rolls over!
Back before 2010 when we didn't have smartphones, texting, or SMS used to cost .20¢ *a* text, or about .15€.
It's also often cheaper to get away from the big companies. For instance, you can get the exact same network as Verizon but with another carrier (search "verizon equivalent carrier"), because those companies basically buy access to Verizon's network and then sell much lower priced plans.
Yeah true to an extent, but it is a necessity to connect to the globe, just like I do with TH-cam audience ✅✅
