    This is a testament to the craftsmanship of the Disney company including the technicians, actors, and Walt. Hayley was wonderful in the film. She gives a lot of credit in her book to the talent that came with every Disney production she was in. I would also suppose that Hayley got most of her scenes in one shot....but I'm guessing.

    It always annoyed me that Susan and Sharon were supposed to be from California and Massachusetts, respectively, yet Hayley Mills maintained her 'veddy Briddish' accent. She didn't even try to sound American. It was the same in *Pollyanna,* which takes place in Vermont.

    • @musicaltheatergeek79
      @musicaltheatergeek79 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@r.b.7633 You're referring to the Mid-Atlantic accent (British-American hybrid) that many (but not all) stage/film actors adopted in the early 1900s. But by the 1950s, that faux accent had gone out of style when movies were trying to be more realistic. Definitely by the '60s. At any rate, everyone else in *The Parent Trap* and *Pollyanna* has a standard American accent, except for her, who sounds very posh and British.

    • @momokoblue8032
      @momokoblue8032 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Pollyanna they wrote it into the script saying that her family were missionaries in the British West Indies. Hayley, as brilliant as she was as an actress was never able to lose her accent for film.

  • @catgirl7765
    @catgirl7765 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    These same technics were used in some 60's T.V shows where actors and actresses would play duel roles. What is beyond my understanding is why duel roles were kept secret back then. For example, in Bewitched Elizabeth Montgomery played both Samantha and her cousin Serena-but Serena was credited as being played by Pandora Spox to keep the duel role a secret. And in The Addams Family it was worse, because while Carolyn Jones would play a duel role as both Morticia and her sister Ophelia, no credit was given for who played Ophelia, which must have been puzzling for some.
    After watching Hayle Mills play a duel role, I came to love the idea of playing twins and even tried it out myself with photos, creating an imaginary twin for myself-as a teenager-so I could have the joy of playing a duel role as twins, taking two photos, then joining then to look like one photo of two girls!
    When I saw Carolyn Jones play a duel role as Morticia and her sister Ophelia in The Addams Family and Elizabeth Montgomery play a duel role as Samantha and her cousin Serena in Bewitched I was delighted and impressed and continue to be puzzled by why the talented duel role playing was kept secret, rather than being credited as "Carolyn Jones and Carolyn Jones" and "Elisabeth Montgomery and Elizabeth Montgomery"

    Most amazing was Miss Mills acting and reacting to herself in the previously-shot scene filmed 20 - 30 minutes earlier. When I saw this as a child in the theater, I thought these were twins in real life, it was so seamless.

      Haley Mills was a known name, and they got to bill her twice in the promotional material. You might be able to find twins, but finding twins who can act, who people loved in Pollyanna, and with a famous last name?

      And twins will grow at different rates. Months into filming one girl might be taller than the other. That’s a dead giveaway to the parents who is who, especially in the scene where they say “no, we’re gonna all go camping”.

      But then they'd be at the mercy of the acting abilities of some unknown twins instead of having a Hayley Mills movie.
