Don't forget the main difference. Minneapolis streets were designed using the grid system. St. Paul streets were designed using a bottle of whiskey.
Hahaha! This feels so true I'm going to use this in the future if thats ok
One way street vs two way street
Yeah mpls sucks unless you want to rent a party bus
Oh wait the police don't patrol mpls anymore so you still have to deal with garbage in downtown mpls
Saint Paul is that deal w7th street is good
Unless you get people from Minneapolis
Love it or hate it
If Minneapolis and St. Paul had a contest to see who is better, Minneapolis would win, but St. Paul wouldn't realize a contest is taking place. Minneapolis would be like "We're better than you." St. Paul would be like, "Oh that's great. Good for!"
This is SO true!! I’m partial to St. Paul as I was born and raised there though.
St. Paul is the last city of the east. Whereas, Minneapolis is the first city in the West. If you think of it this way it really does explain a lot of the differences in older architecture, city planning (grid vs non grid system), even cultural and religious traditions with St. Paul being old money, traditional “east egg” and catholic and Minneapolis being more “west egg,” new aged, and Protestant.
WOW! That makes SO much sense. I am going to use that in the future. Thank you!
Old late nite radio guy Mischke would always end his show saying "Good old St Paul, big time Minneapolis..." sort of tongue-in-cheek, but that really summed it up for me.
I like it!
Saturday nights are for Minneapolis, St. Paul for Sunday mornings.
Nailed it. Favorite breakfast spot in St. Paul?
@@MN_Best_Real_Estatehope breakfast bar 😍
@@isaacschelhope is dope!
When I moved here as a transplant, somebody explained it to me thus: A Minneapolis businessman might hire a lawyer in a Minneapolis firm, or a St. Paul firm; but a St. Paul businessman will only ever hire a lawyer from St. Paul.
Though I do enjoy the variety, honestly, it's sort of too bad that we have two city centers so proximate to one another. The metro isn't large enough to support two vital, vibrant city centers. So what we end up with is a tepid city center, and a hollowed-out dying one.
Grew up in the Mpls side of town. Now live in St. Paul side of town. I LOVE St. Paul so so much more than Mpls. The restaurants, the neighborhoods, you just can't beat the older homes in St. Paul.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing😉
To me as a many times casual visitor from California Saint Paul feels like an eastern city while Minneapolis a midwestern or western one.
This sounds about right
minneapolis feels like seattle/vancouver and st paul feels like kansas city/pittsburgh
I'll give you Como Zoo. Como Zoo is and was good memories. I grew up NE Mpls. Waite Park, Northeast and Edison. Welcome to the Highlands.
I grew up in the Como area and the zoo holds a special place in my heart. Fun fact... Como zoo is one of about 10 free zoo's in the nation.
I grew up in St Paul and rarely ventured over to Mpls. Streets are different and somewhat confusing. St Paul doesn't stop numbering houses when they get to the end of the block. So, the 300 house numbers could go on for several blocks. Mpls doesn't do that. So, there's a 300 block and a 400 block, etc. On the other hand, St Paul only has one 4th Street. While Mpls has a 4th Ave N, 4th Ave S, 4th St NE, 4th St S, 4th St SE . I'll get lost if I cross the bridge. 😐
Without GPS on my phone I would still be lost in Mpls!
Lol! I recently moved here from mpls and the house numbers bug me!
It's like Nuremberg and Fuerth in Germany 😂 the same here. Greetings from Germany/Franconia
Greetings!!
This just made me homesick. Recently just moved to KA. Weeeelp I can always visit 🤔🙋🏽♀️🤭 it's beach 🏖️ vs lake🛶 at this point in my life. Snow⛄️ vs no Snow. I choose beach and no snow ❄️ 🚫
❤❤
St. Paul has the Mississippi River everywhere! Practically 10 blocks in any direction. If you would ask a mpls person where's the river, they would answer "it starts in Itasca".
The Chatterbox on MPLS south side claims to be the oldest bar. I live in MPLS but prefer St Paul. Better golf and Como is the best thing in the twin cities.
Saint Paul has my heart. I grew up in Como and run a golf league at Como golf course
Great content.
Thanks!
It may not be as true as years past, but there are St Paul folks as likely to visit Chicago as they are to cross the river to Minneapolis.
Haha! I've never been to Chicago and rarely go to Mpls for recreation
St Paul has the best breakfast joints
St. Paul sounds vintage!
It is this is the true gangsters hung out. 1920s era
It's for sure the older feeling of the two towns!
I have been in several basements along the river that had corridors that led to the river that were used for bootlegging booze during the prohibition. It was super cool to see!
All I care about is safety so which is safer? As if I don't know.
Considering a move to the Twin Cities, so found your content through a search. Just wanted to give you a heads up- you likely meant to put "versus" instead of "verses". Great content though, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for that!
I'm also researching for this reason. Tired of Phoenix.
Should I rent a car? Attending the Lions/Vikings game Oct 20th.
We joke that if the Rio Grande did the same job of separating people as the Mississippi does between MPLS & STP, we would have no immigration crises.
Hahaha
Minneapolis 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Grew up north mpls now live east side stp. 💜
What do you think are the main differences?
@@MN_Best_Real_Estate way less gun shots and more chill vibes on the EAST SIDE ✌💜
@@optimusgotslimed3175 love it!!
oof da, north Minneapolis has turned into pure chaos and you hear about it on the news every week. I live in North East saint paul.
WHAT ABOUT THE MOSQUITO PROBLEM
Since this is a real estate flavor video,
I'll mention that as a taxpayer, I got a lot more value from Minneapolis tax dollars. St Paul is cheap w road repair etc.
BUT Mpls hates large dogs, so be very careful
Each city has pluses and minuses!
You are correct. They hate to repair their streets or potholes and people on the same block have to "group Hire" snow removal from their collectively used alleys. It is a backwards city but people like it.
I'm in NYC, was living in south Florida before that, Broward County. I tell people I'm from Minneapolis and they know where it is, I tell somebody about st. Paul, they don't know what I'm talking about. Can just say it's in Minneapolis' shadow.
The word you're looking for is "versus", not "verses".
St. Paul all the way.
Never!
I was born and raised there so I do have my allegiances...
@@miketeacher9016it's older and more classic and legendary than m polis
They are almost the same and no there is not a punchline comming why???
okay didn't ask
Minneapolis is for the "transplants", St paul is for the "residents".
WHY IS SAINT PAUL AND MINNEAPOLIUS SO ALIKE.
Is this a joke? Is there a punchline coming...?
55106 till i die. East side st paul on maryland
I'm sorry to hear that, I hope things get better for you.
Two twin. S paul is better
Agreed
Never been in StP, but ...
Driving through Minneapolis was one of the worst experiences of my life. Half the intersections were closed and half the open roads were jackhammered. And this was in 2019.
In 2023, we went into northern Minneapolis, avoiding the rest of the city. Northern Minneapolis is the working class side, ethnic minorities, elderly, etc, and historically the "violent" side of the city. Iasked around and the protests in 2020 ... actually ... were ... peaceful.
By contrast, Southern Minneapolis is the yuppie, soy, mallrat, bard side of the city. That's where the arsons and looting took place.
I was born , raised in the Twin Cities and have taught in both Minneapolis and St. Paul schools. Twin Cities people are so unfriendly, cliquish, arrogant and don't want to make new friends outside of their existing circle of friends. There is no "Minnesota Nice". I call it Minnesota ICE. These people will give you directions to anywhere except their own home. We do have wonderful museums and educational institutions but you couldn't make a friend if your life depended on it. It is very sad for us, single people. They seem to "pull in the sidewalks at 10 p.m. in St. Paul. Downtown St. Paul is socially dead after the crowd leaves to go home.
I’m sorry you’ve had that experience. There are some people like you mentioned out there but we have truly experienced the opposite. I believe midwesterner and Minnesotans particular are inviting and welcoming
I moved to the Twin Cities last spring, and I have found people to be very friendly. I think the bigger cultural difference is people are nice here, but they are not going to pretend to be your friend like people do in other parts of the country 🤷🏻♂️
@@dmcinerney6841 this is a phenomenal description of the people of the Twin Cities area
Sounds like you need to loosen up a bit and let your guard down. There’s unfriendly people everywhere but if you’ve got that mindset about everyone, people are going to feel repelled by you. Just my experience 🤷♂️
Also born & raised in Mpls. I have friends, including new ones.
It's true that we don't tend to let folks in too easily - we're busy!
Try joining clubs & doing volunteering
so many bars in minesota that vlaim to be the first. a bar way up noth in talmoon claims to also be the first bar in minesota lol. i doubt it tho talmoon has a gas statioj with two pumps and that one bar.
Neumann's in North St. Paul is the oldest according to google. There's one in New Ulm that claims the same. I just did a video with the owner of Waldmanns in St. Paul. They are the oldest operating brewery in the state in the oldest commercial building in the state. Cool place! Check it out
