    "Oh this album sucks It doesn't sound like slayer"
    "Oh this album sucks it sounds like their other albums"
    A lot of metalheads are selfish when a band worked hard to release a new album

    I totally dig this album. Its got a great flow to it and the production is second to none for this type of music. I give it a strong 8.75 maybe even 9/10.

    Slayer has never disappointed me . Repentless is an absolute banger and Gary certainly did NOT hinder the band and its direction whatsoever.

    This is a great album

    Listened to it yesterday and I have to say it's kind of a major letdown. A couple of good and hard hitting songs here and there (Repentless, Vices, Cast the First Stone, You Against You), it has better prduction than WPB but overall it's very pedestrian and predictable in it's sound and approach. Not letting Gary Holt participate in the songwriting was a major mistake, because if anything this album is clear proof that Kerry King is seriously running out of musical ideas. My rating: 6/10

      And Kerry claims they quit too early?? Lmfao, if Gary Holt could've written something, at least brought a new opinion, could've been better. I LOVE OLD SLAYER, shit that used to be black, heavy af, and straight satanic in moments, as a huge black metal and death metal/core etc fan, this album did NOTHING for me...Who the hell is scared or shocked by this, but at least they didn't decide to give head like "Metallica", or some Megadorks shit. Slayer is the ONLY " thrash" band I still and always will LOVE, ANGEL OF DEATH, OR ANYTHING OFF R.I.B., live one more show, maybe the whole album set I'd be a happy guy to experience

    Good album overall ...7/10 ...it's slower than World Painted Blood, Tom's vocals got a little bit weaker, not to mention this is the 1st album without Jeff but in the end i liked it still it's a Slayer album

  • @GasmaskAvenger
    @GasmaskAvenger 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    As someone who enjoyed "Christ Illusion" and "World Painted Blood", i'll have to say that "Repentless" is a lesser Slayer album but not their worst ala "God Hates Us All".
    While the production is good, I prefer the earlier versions of "When the Stillness Comes", "Implode" and "Atrocity Vendor". In a weird way, "Repentless" reminds me of Necrophagia's "WhiteWorm Cathedral" in that its a bit slower and middle of the road compared to the albums that preceded them (WPB for Slayer, the awesome "Deathtrip 69" for Necrophagia).
    Overall, I guess this album is Tom and Kerry going through the motions without Jeff. Hopefully things heat up several notches for the next album when Gary (or whatever second guitarist will be present for it) is allowed to write some songs. Hell...let Paul write some songs since the two songs he wrote were pretty good (the title track off of "Divine Intervention" and "Unguarded Instinct" from the Japanese versions of "Diabolus in Musica").

    I've only listened to Repentless (great) and Cast the First Stone (pretty decent mid-tempo song). I don't count Implode and When The Stillness Comes because those were EARLY versions, almost like demos, so I'm guessing they'll be significantly different. I'll see if that's true or not when I take a listen to them. I'm guessing it's gonna be a decent album, not an amazing Reign in Blood 2.0, but pretty decent and fun.

      Christ Illusion is easily their best album since Seasons. WPB was a letdown and Repentless is very similar to it. Honestly, I'm not sure if I like Repentless better than WPB or not. That said, Christ Illusion remains a modern Slayer album I can go back to and enjoy.

    Well it is safe to say Slayer is out of the rut that was God Hates us all and Christ Illusion. For me this is the best Slayer album POST 1990. There is a catch however, that being you have to love the sound of both the bass drum and bass guitar. This album is just as bass heavy as Diabolus in Musica. The variety of song types is good. There is both Rhythm and Speed. 83/100

    Honestly Repentless is a little less pessimistic than World Painted Blood or Christ Illusion. And like you said, it doesn't assault you as hardcore as those two albums. However, it does offer some good themes and a first for Slayer even - Rather than EVERY OTHER SONG being about the end of the world in this album, they actually take a turn towards a bit of something positive. Listen to take control. It offers the idea that we may be able to retake our government.
    That being said, there are a few songs that linger from the World Painted Blood/ Christ Delusion era. Repentless sounds like it could have been straight out of Christ Illusion (musically) and Implode would have fit right into World Painted Blood (both musically/lyrically).

    My opinion about this new slayer album I can honestly say it does have its great moments the first 3 tracks but I believe that lyrically it start slacking towards Midway of the album and slowly picks back up towards the end. but however it is a great album there's no denying that. On a scale of 1 to 10 I can really write this album 7 1/2.

    Not a great album not a horrible album. I don't think this album will excite many people nor do much for Slayer moving forward. I am a huge Slayer fan and don't really care much for this album. The new Iron Maiden is something that gets me excited and wanting to go see Maiden play those songs live. I don't really care to hear any of these songs live. Mediocre album.

  • @AlucardsQuest
    @AlucardsQuest 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe I'm in the minority but Christ Illusion and World Painted Blood I thought were better albums. Paul Bostaph is a great drummer, but he's not really bringing his dynamics and versatility here like say Forbidden's Twisted Into Form, where as Lombardo would know exactly what to play and where. First impressions make me feel like there's a lot of slow songs, it really shows that Kerry King was not the best song-writer between him and Hannemen. Tom Araya himself admitted that he needed someone like Terry Date to let him know the good takes, but maybe Date wasn't really up to the challenge that Greg Fidelman was. For the most part his vocals seem to slip back into the God Hates Us All era monotone shouting, and it bring the tunes down further. It feels like half of a Slayer record, and I'm more interested in hearing Gary Holt's contribution on the next album... if any. Who knows, by then they might be in their sixties and can barely hold up their guitars anymore.

  • @Gregbaltzer
    @Gregbaltzer 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I find this album too "direct". I miss the old wreckless abandon that Slayer were good at in their early days. There's a lot of just chugging along. When I listen to it I keep asking myself "Where's the riffs?" and then a small generic riff will appear and it's back to chugging. I want to hear some crazy trade off guitar playing between Holt and King, and it doesn't really happen, except during the standard solo spots. I just wish they'd throw a crazy lead on top of the chugging every once in a while. And do some songs that have a nice mid tempo grove like songs from Seasons in the Abyss. And the lyrics are lazy. I know King said back in the God Hates Us All days he was more interested in writing lyrics now that are more direct, like how he talks everyday. I'll keep putting it on for the time being, but pretty soon it was just be back to listening to Hell Awaits for me.

  • @witchhunt99
    @witchhunt99 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    its a pretty good album, but cant touch Hell Awaits/Reign/South. Gary was an excellent addition. Slayer is not Exodus but Bonded/Pleasures are better lM0.. Its much better than their last 2 releases so call it quits on a high note. They will always be the best of the "BIG 3". There's no big 4. Anthrax is a joke

    What the hell are you talking about bro? There is no anxiety or apprehension while waiting for this album. The the trick SLAYER has up their sleeve is being seasoned, dedicated to their craft, and knowing what works for the fans that listen two their music. The loss of JEFF HANNEMEN was a huge blow but SLAYER took on an amazing guitarist in GARY HOLT. SLAYER is the most seasoned metal band out there. They are a band that has nothing to prove to new bands or bands that are getting back together. You should also not talk about anyone and their age. there ability to perform above average. I just saw this SLAYER, and live they still kill any band half their age. I guess for people that don't know anything about anything they may find your mindless rambling some what interesting. I do not see any short coming at all and who are you to even talk about SLAYER in the fashion you are, please review Miley Cyrus VICE one of the best bands in the history of music. This is one of the best album this year by far.

    Big slayer fan, but could not take to this album at all, for me it has one good song via the title track, otherwise, the rest are unforgettable, just sound like album fillers to me, i had high expectations after world painted blood, it was fantastic

    It was weak and boring for me, I'd rather listen to anything old they did. There's new thrash bands that have better structured songs that Slayer wish they could still do.

      I completely agree. The lyrics suck, the mid-tempo bullshit sucks. This is probably worse than Diabolus and God hates us all

      This is their best but should of next album make a album like hell awaits with reign in blood combined psychopathy red is proof of that they still can.

      Too many!
      Warbringer, Evile, Violator, Havok, Dust Bolt, Revocation, Crusher, Besieged, Vektor, Toxic Holocaust, Dr. Living Dead, Hatchet (their second album), Angelus Apatrida, Exarsis, Suicidal Angels (These guys love Slayer), etc.

    I listened to the intro and 30 seconds into the title track. nope.
    Absolutely hate it. south of heaven and reign in blood changed my life but this is doing exactly nothing for me.

    Meh, it was ok 6/10. Never been a fan of Kerry's writing. Jeff had some duds here and there but usually were always good if not legendary. Kerry's writing is just flat and other than Skeletons i would say they're all just mediocre. Kerry's writing is fit more for the "I hate my parents, because it's cool" teenager. Really missed the Lombardo's attitude and aggression. Bostaph does an amazing job but it always sounds like he's trying to imitate Lombardo instead of just doing his own thing. Hate to say it, but I kinda hope it's their last album.

    Nice riffs. The solos are a little repetitive for me. Gets better with each listen. I felt the production was strong. Stupid lyrics. These guys shout and play loud and fast but the attempt at romanticism of violence and thinly veiled supremacist ideology in tracks like Pride in Prejudice is disconcerting in our day and age and falls weak on my ears. This album has nothing on Carcass or Napalm Death's latest efforts. They come off like poseurs too scared to go deeper into the darker psyche of disturbed individuals a la "Dead Skin Mask" and instead paint vague tones of racism and closeted white male rage in their lyrics (which I suspect is down to Kerry King). Lyrically they sound impotent - like studio anarchists and rebels who then go home to their gothic and nazi memorabilia and then pray in Church on Sunday. Embarrasing, frankly and a bit of a letdown.
