  • Easy Crochet Baby Blanket - How to Crochet from Beginning to End Project for Beginners. This is a fun and easy crochet baby blanket tutorial using Bernat Blanket Yarn and Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn. This is a super bulky size 6 chenille type yarn making a super soft and cuddly baby blanket. This crochet tutorial is beginner friendly and easy with beginning to end steps showing you how to crochet all along the way. This is a simple, quick crochet project. I used the V Stitch double crochet stitch pattern for the body of the baby blanket which includes the following types of stitches: foundation chain, single crochet (US) and double crochet (US). The border is 4 rounds of single crochet (US) stitches.
    All of my crochet tutorials are provided in both left-handed crochet and right-handed crochet perspectives.
    Left Handed Crochet Tutorial Available at this link: • Left Handed - Easy Cro...
    Link for separate video tutorial with detailed instructions on the V Stitch (double crochet) pattern:
    Right handed V Stitch video tutorial: • V Stitch Crochet Tutor...
    Left handed V Stitch video tutorial: • Left Handed - V Stitch...
    Materials Used in this Project:
    Bernat Blanket Yarn (color Waterslide) You will need approx. 850 yards for this project. amzn.to/2WxALa3
    Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn (color White) amzn.to/2TGCYOA
    Boye Crochet Hook Set (ergonomic) amzn.to/31cEsUG
    Fiskar Scissors - Crafting amzn.to/31e5xqT
    Crochet Row Markers amzn.to/2OD9rEr
    Yarn Needle - plastic (large size) amzn.to/2uB84Nl
    Crafting light amzn.to/2K1E08q
    (Special thank you to everyone doing their Amazon shopping through our affiliate links. You can purchase anything. It doesn't have to be crochet related - just click on a link and do your shopping as usual. Thank you!)
    Instructions to make the V Stitch (Double Crochet - US)
    ch = chain
    sc = single crochet (US) -------(NOTE: single crochet in United States means Double Crochet in UK)
    dc = double crochet (US) ----- (NOTE: double crochet in United States means Treble Crochet in UK)
    Foundation Chain - Crochet the foundation change to length needed for your project using foundation chain count that is a multiple of 2 and add 2 additional stitches.
    Row 1: 2dc in 4th ch from the hook, skip 1 ch then *[2dc in the next ch, skip 1 ch], repeating * to the last ch, 1dc in the last ch, turn (NOTE: 2dc creates V stitch group)
    Row 2: ch3 (counts as 1dc), skip first dc, 2dc into the center space between the 2dc within the V stitch group across the row below to end, 1dc in top of the turn chain, turn Then, repeat same pattern as row 2 throughout your work.
    This Crochet Baby Blanket:
    You will need approx. 850 yards of the Bernat Blanket Yarn. See the links above to purchase materials online through our Amazon affiliate links.
    Foundation chain 68 chains plus 2 additional stitches = total foundation chain of 70 stitches.
    This body of this blanket is 52 rows. See V Stitch instructions above as well as a link to related video tutorial.
    Border:
    At middle of top row, put slip knot into desired stitch and chain 1. Then, single crochet (US) into each stitch until you reach the final stitch on the row. Then, 3sc into the corner stitch. Along the sides of the blanket 2 sc into each double crochet space. Repeat all the way around and slip stitch to join.
    Row 2: Chain 1, and single crochet into each stitch with 3 sc into each corner stitch all the way around and slip stitch to join. Repeat for number of desired border rounds, and fasten off to end. Sew in your yarn tail to hide the yarn tail.

    I’m a 40+ year crocheter and I love your videos. When I instruct beginners on the art of crochet I find it best not to use this type of yarn. I find it difficult for beginners to find where their stitches are and it makes knowing where to put your hook challenging. I love doing simple patterns from time to time...I can watch a movie or chat with my son while crocheting. It’s very freeing for the mind. Thank you for this lovely pattern. I’m going to be making it for my first grandson who’s 4 months old. My daughter loves this yarn and she will love this along with my other crochet gifts. I actually have the yarn on hand so this will keep me busy today and tomorrow. ❤️

    This was an amazing video! I was looking for a quick blanket for a shower I am attending for my niece tomorrow! Put off the project and after purchasing a gift card from her registry I decided to give this a whirl as all will be expecting a blanket from her crocheting auntie! Been working on this all afternoon. Working on the last 10 rows and the border. Will post on Facebook later!

      Hi! I’m doing this blanket for the first time. It is a good choice with the heavy yarn. My blanket is not real straight on the end; I’m on the 4th row. My husband wanted Ocean Storm and bigger than 60” so I made it 70” wide!! It buckles in some places, is that normal? I’m using a N hook, because I didn’t have the L. Will it still turn out ok??

      This was one of my first videos when I started uploading to this channel. I did not put the blanket size in the comments. I watched the intro to the video and didn’t hear anything about the size. I apologize. I would guess from amount of yarn used that this is a toddler size blanket and likely around 36 to 40 inches wide and probably about 48 inches in length. But I can’t be sure unless I made another one. I gave that away as a gift.
      Thank you for your compliment. I apologize for leaving out that bit of important information.

    Hi Nancy, I love this blanket and plan on making it. My question is, do you need 900 yards of the white also? Thank you!

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No you do not need 900 yards of white also. You will need approximately 900 yards total to make a baby blanket. It’s approximate because it depends on how loose your stitches are and size of hook you use. I just used the plain white as part of my border. If you do the same then you only need 100 yards or less of the white. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask more questions if you need to. Thank you for watching!!

    If you have problems finding a larger skein or need a color that the store may be out of the color/brand try the Joann app. Sometimes you may have to wait for a good coupon but great spp.

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on type of blanket you are making. I like to make the toddler blankets so they can use them beyond infancy. I like to make mine about 40 inches X 60 inches. Look up sizes of crochet baby blankets and under Google images you will see charts showing sizes of crib blankets versus swaddle blankets versus bassinet blankets and toddler blankets. Hope that helps you.

    Your instructions are clear and and easy to follow. I have just one question. Are you crocheting into the space formed
    between each pair of double crochet v-stitches, or are you crocheting into the space between the two individual stitches that form the v? It's just a little hard for me to see on the video because the yarn is so thick. Thank you, and hope you keep posting videos!

    Hi, you are a great teacher for this project.
    Thank you so much looking forward to making one for an adult. Question for you?????
    If I have 4 balls if 10.5 oz approx. 258 yds. Its the Stitch Studio By Nicole. Name of the yarn is Chateau.
    I was wondering how many chains I should make for a blanket for a man? I have some of these left over from when A.C. Moore was in business, Also, how long do you think it should be? I need to learn how to read a pattern. I have crochet for years when I could, but just use the basics sc, ds, hdc, tc, etc,,,,,I see so many quite things people make that are animals pillows fruit etc, I sure would love to learn to read a pattern so I could branch out some. I do watch the videos sometimes and write in my own words what the person is doing and then go that route. Thank you so much. God Bless you,

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not going to be enough yarn for an adult size throw. That should make a nice kids throw. My knowledge and of that yarn it’s a size 6-super bulky. You will need approximately 1625 to 2000 yards of that yarn to make an Afghan. There is a good chart online that tells you how much yarn by size / weight of yarn for projects. Google “How much yarn do I need for various projects “ and look at images that show the charts.

    Thank you so much. I bravely started this blanket last night. My question is how do I do a border with the same yarn? Do I have to cut the yarn and start in the middle of a row or just add 3 single sc on the end corner and continue? I am using a bamboo hook and I think I need to change that as it’s not as smooth.

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not start my border on the end of a row because when you make your way around you will be finishing off at that same corner. In my opinion, it will look better if you finish off your blanket and start your border at different spot. Hope that helps. I would love to see your end product. If you have Facebook, join the Crochet Group The Crafty Yarn Barn and post a pic so we can see your blanket.

    I am loving this blanket and doing good on it for the most part. My question is when turning and starting next row I must be doing something wrong. That edge is all wonky, rippled. So I turn, chain 3 and then do 2 double crochets in the first available space or the next one in. I think I messed up back a few rows and did my double crochet in the first space not the first space in between the two v’s. Am I making any sense? This is only my second time crocheting but I seem to have issues with keeping my edges straight.

    I absolutely love this tutorial! I was trying to teach myself to crochet by watching TH-cam videos but couldn’t understand how to keep my rows straight. Your instructions are so helpful and I can see how to do everything & understand now thanks to you! Hands down best teaching tutorials! I’m in the process of making this blanket now( my first ever crocheted project) and I wanted to ask you how to do a color change on my yarn? Would it be in the 3 chains at the beginning of starting a new row?? Thanks so much!

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! I appreciate your comments. It’s Hard to describe how to change colors by typing a response.
      If it’s the same color then you can do a magic knot. If it’s the end of a row and a color change then you can just complete your normal chain two and then use your new yarn as last of third chain and hide the yarn in your next row. I feel like this is a horrible explanation. I will need to make you a video.
