Doesn’t your irrigation solve a lot of your pastures? Any irrigation in your fields?

@@Rollinghillsfarmsmn we only have irrigation here at home. And this year, electric price is already up 18% plus they added more to help pay for the storm damage. Irrigation power bill was $2500/month last year. Over $10k for the summer.

You definitely have less snow than us. I don't worry about the moisture until we have a dry May. Nothing gets through this clay. Our top soil, what there is of it is pretty saturated.

The creeks aren’t running yet so the frost is still in. We’ll see how much water comes out of the big swamp to the north when the real thaw happens.

Hi Dave! We've had little snow this winter here in western PA. Relatively warm. Around 50 all this week and 60 tomorrow. had several days recently that were 60 also. We have gotten lots of rain. Everything is really soggy.

@@Rollinghillsfarmsmn hey Dave, we’ve got plenty of water right now copious amounts as a matter of fact, but if it stays warm like this, the warmth leads to a lot of evaporation and gets rid of that water pretty fast

Cows are looking good! Are you guys going to start looking for cheap hay? Or just hope you make it?

Thanks. We can buy some from neighbor Dave for this winter but I’m thinking about summer pasture and next summer’s hay crop.

Over in Ottertail county, they are showing light rain later this evening in to rain overnight through the day tomorrow with a wintering mix later in the day tomorrow into snow, but then stopping in the early hours of Friday it’s just not enough… take care of yourselves and the bovines, keep looking in on neighbor Dave ,we’re thinking about you.

You're not the only one wondering about getting more much needed moisture.

Dry over by you too? We have light rain forecast tomorrow.

No snow by me either. Hopefully we get some form of moisture this spring.
We were careful of drafts with the Dairy calves. They were on milk replacer after 4 days. That probably makes a difference. Thank you Dave.

We could use a widespread steady rain but 15 inches of snow would be best.

We had a very little snow winter 40 yrs ago then came March.... first week we had one heck of a blizzard, over 2 ft if I remember right......Like Will said, May and June are the critical months we need rain, that's when I get scared....Those cows look good, they've had a easy winter. Thanks Dave.

Hope we have a repeat with a long slow melt. I could use a wet year.
