    High Octane Classics have a nice SS396 Chevelle here. I like the colors on this beautiful swoopy sporty 2dr ht. A big block with a 4 speed and 4:10 ratio final drive. WOW !!

    I just have to say. Always amazes me how people always have to add negative comments. See it all over on TH-cam. Don't like it, shut up!! Enough negativity in this world already. By the way, great video. Love your knowledge of vehicles. I especially like the junk yard crawls.

    Sounds like chamber exhaust option too? Yep back in 1969 and 15 years old I used to walk around the Chevy dealership looking at the window stickers on the Chevelles and Camaros for the L-78 gold! Great times back then!!!

    These were frontline machines in the war for factory street supremacy back in 69. They had to do battle with 440 magnums and 428 CJs. I tangled with a few of them back then and got a wild ride in a neighbor's L78 69 SS dyno tuned by Nickey Chevy.

    I owned this very car back in about 2012-13. What an amazing vehicle. At that time it still had it's factory Muncie 4 speed however the Hurst shifter is a nice upgrade. Wish I hadn't sold it.

    I had the same engine L-78 in my numbers matching 1970 SS 396 L-78 Camaro, with Muncie M-21 close ratio transmission and 12 bolt 4:10 Posi rear. It was featured in Muscle car review magazine in April 1992.

    The presence of a winters intake is not a good way to determine if you have a L78. More than once I've seen people put those on oval port head big blocks. All L78 were four bolt main blocks. Look for the pipe plug size just above the oil filter. If it's huge, 3/4 pipe I believe, then you have a four bolt main block and a L78 if it's a 396 block.

    I had a 69 Chevelle L78 4 spd. W/ 410s in 69. .beat alot of muscle cars then ...that had more cubes and more carbs..like the 440 6 pack ..but beat em !..l think the solid lifters ..and being able to pull 7k rpms helped alot !

    Power discs were NOT std. for the SS396. When I ordered mine in the spring of '69....IN VIETNAM...disc brakes were a MANDATORY Option on my SS L34 convertible.

    What a super sweet resto, although I'm surprised at the slag fit of the rear bumper which would take little effort to adjust.

    G know some, mostly enough to get in trouble. If a Chevelle showed dual exhaust w/chrome rectangle tips I recognized as power right away. They could pull away from traffic with ease. Some would get rubber to squeal & smoke.

      I always wondered would a 396 beat an 427 say 8th of a mile cause of the smaller stroke?

    • @kennydemartini2169
      @kennydemartini2169 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MBailey1977 They have the same stroke. the 396 and 427 use the same crankshaft and rods. The 396 has a smaller and lighter piston, which theoretically would make it rev quicker.

    Nicely presented, but kill the music, not needed when you're trying to concentrate.
    With the VIN we win: 1 for Chevrolet, 36 for Malibu V8, 37 for two door sport coupe, 9 for 1969 model year, K for Kansas City (Leeds), MO assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Leeds plant closed in 1988.
    "Date code" correct and "original" engine/powertrain are two different things because starting around 1968, the partial VIN # would have been stamped into the block and transmission. So if it has 19K380980 stamped into it, it's the original. If not, it was from another vehicle or a service replacement. The 1 is for Chevrolet, the 9 for 1969, the K for Leeds, MO and the rest matches the production sequence.
    That dealer is gone and there was an auto parts store there around 2012, it appears to be Hoover Electric now from what I can see.

    The SS emblems on the right and left fenders are too high up, from looking at the pictures here I don't even think this is a real SS. It looks more like a resto-Chevelle with a L-78 engine and this guy talking about the car is full of shit. All he is is a god damn salesman at a vintage muscle car dealership trying to pass off a resto-mod car as something it isn't. If he has the window sticker, then he should have the build sheet. I wouldn't touch this car without Patrick Glenn Nichols authenticating it, they'll be asking big money for it, a wise buyer would pay to have Patrick Glenn Nickles to come out and check it over first.
