@@gideonjackman1948 He was my idol growing up as a kid. The guy always looked like he was having fun and it was easy. The way he just sauntered in, smashed the ball about and then if he got out, just sauntered back out with a smile on his face.
Absolutely the KING. Nobody comes close to him. Not even Don Bradman, irrespective of Don's record. Viv never cared for records. His confidence, aura, impact n swag are unbeatable. Super human
@@beefy1986 Viv was a great no doubt. One of my favorite players growing up. His career average was 50. Bradman averaged 56 DURING 'bodyline' so even allowing for jardines leg theory with a stacked leg side field of up to 8 players his average was superior. So if you call 56 in test cricket 'tamed' then all players in history would love to be so tamed. To merely suggest that Viv , who's average was almost exactly half of the Don would have thrived is absurd . Presumably, you can walk and chew at the same time , so you can love Viv ( as most do) and acknowledge the Don was the superior batsman. No one in history that's played 50 or more tests gets even close to his numbers . Not sobers ( the best cricketer in history) not Tendulkar, not Lara, not Pollock, aaaaaaand not anyone !!!!!! The best we see are averages in the low 60 s, which is , in and of itself extraordinary. You've no basis upon which to ground your claim aside from a bias towards a former great. A bias I share but won't allow myself to be irrational and deluded by. Not anyone expert in history, even those that loathed Bradman, shares your view. Benaud said Bradman was clearly the best and Tendulkar next in line. Bradman himself anointed Tendulkar as the best he'd seen. Hard to argue with that. Bradman is clearly the best and in cricket, numbers don't lie.
@RidetheGeoffening Viv is the best and most exciting player I've seen, G Chappell, VVS Laxman, D Gower and M Waugh the classiest. But you have clearly summed up the facts and the truth. Bradman is the best.
@@iandawson3171 almost impossible to do all the names any justice as many someone's are bound to be left out. I'm Aussie so I'll concede my bias first up , but I just love the game , well , the test game , to be precise. My first memory was attending the 75 /76 test match at the scg against the windies. Crazy good. I loved em all , but Lloyd was King. Brute of a batsman. You mentioned the word exciting, so certainly Gilly springs to mind as there have been few better. M.waugh , brilliant , and in the top safest of hands all around the wicket. Often felt he threw his wicket away so Steven gets in above him. Lol. Gower off his pads was God. Borders tenacity. Peterson's arrogance ( loathe him but a great bat )De Villiers in more modern times.... . I feel gavaskar is not mentioned enough by the modern crowd. Surely the most accomplished bat in the era of the most lethal fast bowlers worldwide. Obviously the windies beasts , you can pick any number of them , but Bobby Willis was a gun ( underrated imo ) Imran of course who was lightning as a younger player and of course lillee and thommo....... aaaaaaand Sunny slayed em all. At his height , length balls were lifters and he was absolutely breathtakingly brilliant. TH-cam his innings in English conditions if you've not.....Alright, I'll stop as I'm raving. I'm happy to back and forth if you're interested.
You are a super legend Sir Viv I admired you for decades watching you ripping bowling attacks apart. Thank you so much for the memories I will forever be grateful
To grow up with Viv on TV during peak cricket era,i was spoilt....and those 100meter boundaries with no ropes.....would have been 308 if there were ropes....He is number 1 in my eyes !
Viv Richards never faced hostile face bowling calibre of West Indian quality , he always faced less hostile bowling attacks in his career , he faced only a few quality bowlers like Imran Khan ,Hadlee , Abdul Qadir ,Lillee and Thomson but later two bowlers not occasionally and score heavily against weak bowling attacks of India and England. If one looks at his batting average in inter island competition of carribian called Red Stripe competition his batting average was very less against Marshall, Garner, Holding Roberts and Daniel .
It was agame if 5-6 countries back then 😂 ind, aus, nz, eng, wi and pak 😂 now its a game of 15 maybe 😂 a bit improvement 😂 a game that exists between 15 f***ing countries in the entire world 😂

@@RidetheGeoffening In Bodyline we saw Bradman tamed. Viv would have thrived even in Bodyline circumstances
