For example, you said the second movement wasn’t a “fugue” but a “sarabande.” I had never heard the latter term and while I have heard the former term, I would not be able to describe it. Are the terms a playing style or are they designated by the composer? For example, can you choose to play the second movement as a fugue and contrast it to how it sounds being played as a sarabande? Is the conductor usually the one who makes the choice on the playing approach, assuming those two terms are actually playing approaches?
