I agree that Fern probably felt the same, intense fear of Stark's strength. I don't think she felt any sort of physical pain tho. IMO she probably froze up (partly due to Stark's prank and partly due to his strength) and in the moment realized how helpless she was which helps the episode transition to the 2nd half where she's sick and vulnerable and feels embarrassed about needing help

In season 1, it took the first four episodes to do proper justice to the opening prologue arc which was the death of the great Hero, and the start of Frieren's journey. The head start was important for season 2 because there is no way they could finish the next arc otherwise. It's a bit of a shame that we won't get to see what is arguably the best arc animated which is the one after that.

I believe both Fern and Stark are 18 now. Frieren told Fern it was "Stark's 18th birthday" in episode 12 when Fern bought his bracelet, then in episode 14 it was Fern's birthday and she got her bracelet from him. She said she was 16 years old in episode 3 on her birthday when Frieren said she was taller than her, but that was before the sealed demon guy, the cleaning the town lake for new years, and before they went to see Eisen and started moving north and eventually picked up Stark along the way.
The sweetest Fern and Frieren interaction, to remind us of their years long bond. Frieren is basically Ferns mom at this point, even if the roles are reversed most of the time 😂

Honestly the Fern thing is extremely understandable. I'm a full grown man and i'm pretty big and even I still get uncomfortable when my dad jokingly grabs the back of my neck or something. PS: don't skip the new outro, imo it's beautiful.
The scene towards the end, when Frieren was holding Ferns hand again and she, again, insisted on not being a child, but Frieren just saying "I know" and both smiling at each other got my eyes watering, again. That was such a perfect closure to the topics of that episode and I´m always so amazed how this show manages to depict the dynamics in the relationships of the characters so amazingly good. Yes, it happens to take place in a fantasy setting, with magic, demons and stuff, but it´s also a wonderful study of human feelings and relations 😍 Btw, the openings are fine, good songs, but Milets ending song is a masterpiece imo, so emotional.
I either see it as a little nod to Stark not knowing his own strength, so he pressed Fern's shoulder a little too hard, or because of Fern's trauma. She had her town attacked, so she doesn't appreciate surprises like that even if she did it herself...
Now we understand Eisen when he mentioned he was SOOOOO afraid of him. Fern understands now a bit. New OP had me bopping like crazy when I heard it😂 but Anytime Anywhere is ED of the year and personally my favorite ED of all time. It's SO DAMN IMPACTFUL and fits Frieren perfectly after every episode. The OP was gorgeous! The part where Himmel held Frieren's hand was sooo heartwarming! "It's not just children who need emotional support" We tend to co-relate the two, and develop all sorts of complexes. I love how the show emphasizes human feelings with pratical scenarios. Based on her experience, Frieren got angry for Sein for not chasing his dream. She knows what it's like to live without a reason for hundreds of years, which is incomprehensible for a mere human whose lifetimes are many times shorter. She herself is like a kid, but cares in whatever way she knows. I can't get enough of this anime. xD

I'm super excited for the 2nd part. The intro has me all hype with the new characters. Frieren as a show is something else. Its always so good. On the surface it doesn't seem like a lot happened but when you dive in its always high quality content

Stark is insanely strong and doesn't know it, Eisen knew how strong his potential is. Can imagine the pure terror of somebody putting an arm on your shoulder and feeling like you wouldn't be able to stand up or escape. Fern has seen him fight but she's never experienced how strong he is first hand and just the idea that he could restrain her if he wanted to is scary.
From what we've seen, the standard means to contact distant friends in this world is writing letters. We saw that back at the start of season one when Frieren discovered that Hieter and Eisen wrote to each other. Mages may very well have more advanced means, but we haven't really seen any example of long-distance communication magic.
This new ED has me shook. Frieren lying on the gravestone and cutting to the end showing is Fern. Potential foreshadowing to Frieren living after Fern passes?

Seeing how Frieren is reliving her past through these two kids and trying to make up for her past mistakes by keeping them from making the same mistakes, it seems like she will end up telling Fren to confess her love to Stark before it's too late. After all, that's the mistake Frieren made with Himmel. I've never read the manga and I don't know the rest of the story, but it just feels like we're heading towards something like that. And in order to help Fren and Stark admit their love for each other she will have to accept the fact that she was, and perhaps still is, in love with Himmel. It's very obvious that she has deep rooted regrets concerning him.

It's very interesting from the beginning. ! I'm looking forward to seeing how the relationship between Yamada and Ichikawa will change from now on. However...I didn't realize right away that Ichikawa's friend Adachi and Himmel were voiced by the same Mr. Okamoto. I'm looking forward to the next channel update. !
Haven't finished watch the whole react yet but about what you're saying in the beginning about time to go with him to find his friend they do have a time limit the test they are going to is once every so many years. So if they miss it, they have to wait years before they can go any further north. Hope that helps it was mentioned how long in ep11 I think.

They give some of the worst spoilers, because most trailers just straight up have clips from a series in them (which a lot of the time include some of the plot).
