Gotta say, Lea Michelle handled that interview really well, with a lot of, what seemed to me, authentic gratitude, grace and humility. And whether it was genuine or whether it was strategic (or maybe both), it was really thoughtful and smart to give shout outs to Beanie Feldstein and Julie Benko as part of this kind of fellowship of women who have taken on the challenge of the role. So smart and thoughtful to frame it that way.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to see Lea in the show pending a major miracle. I do want to say this, at the risk of some very real Barbra outrage, but I believe, based on what I have heard about the show (and hearing some audios) and Lea's performance AND both hers and Ramin's comments - she's a better Fanny than Streisand. Lea (and Julie) are mature young women. I know Julie has done enormous research, but Lea is sharing the experience of a woman who has lived 13 more years than Barbra when she did the show. I say this because Barbra literally pushed Nicky out of the story as much as possible (personal issues), which made Act II the debacle it became. I think Lea is giving a more complete Fanny in embracing the relationship with Nicky. I wonder what the original writers might have done were it not for that early interference (it's no secret). JMO. I've always been a Barbra fan, however, re-listening to the original cast album, it sounds like a Barbra Streisand album, not a show album. Even so, the first recollection I will always have of that album is Sydney Chaplin singing I wanna be seen, be seen with you.
People are gonna kill me but... I as well do think Lea Michele is a better Fanny than Barbra Streisand. I also like her voice more, since her voice has a richer tone than Barbra (which is a little bit nasal). Of course people will always say the original is the best, but that might not be always the case...
@@Leamichellefan2244 I only found out about Lea because of FG. I think Streisand was too young for the part. Not Act I - which Lea touches on, but Act II. Fanny was with Nicky for 16 years or so and loved him "too much." A lot of the crap the real Nicky did was to push back at her. It wasn't a great relationship, but it only pushed Fanny more. The more she held on, the more he pulled away. Anyway, you don't get that with Barbra. I only heard the cast recording, but even in the movie, she was still in her 20s. The irony is she was cheating on her husband when she did the show - I think she and Gould were divorced by the time the movie was filmed. I don't think she understood real love until Brolin, so, yeah, as I posted earlier (thanks for the like) Lea is a better Fanny. To her credit, she said she couldn't have played the role when she was younger. On another note, I find her very warm and likeable and whatever happened when she was on Glee appears to be a thing of the past.

I truly believe she is a better person now and that makes me happy
People change all the time man, not too surprising
Love Lea. I am so happy she is on Broadway again.
Very happy for her. She is a force.
QUEEN of Broadway! 👑
I think she was great... & Tovah, Jared & Ramin too
Agreed

I agree completely.

I just love and Am in awe of Leas voice, I’m gutted that I can’t go see her in the show because I’m in the uk and it would be so so expensive
@@soph4850 I’m in the USA but can’t see it either cause its to much money, yet another reason why we need a cast recording.
Lea is funny girl and if you ask me she’s even better then barbara and no I don’t regret saying that, not at all.
I'm with you on that, Hailey !
@@nicholasmorgan8881 thank you.
I definitely enjoy Lea's richer tone and crystal clear notes way more than Barbra's.
Streisand is amazing, but for me Lea is a bit better.
@@BerryStraw15 please don’t hate me but I’ve always preferred lea over Barbara.
