Billy bowled with intent and fire against Windies that season! Such a refreshing change from seeing his lackluster performances in 1986, 87, 88 and 89!
You know, the funny thing is that the old timers in the 70's and 80's used to say exactly what you've said in relation to ODI's like this compared to Test Cricket.
Well one can say T20 cricket is real cricket and the rest of it is lengthy and boring... Not that I subscribe to one school of thought over the other, my issue with modern day cricket is how one sided it has become when it comes to being a contest between bat and ball...it almost feels as if cricket is in the business of slogging the bowler and the bowlers are just a side show...A necessary piece of the puzzle to complete the picture but not important or vital
I think in those days, when you bowl to Sir Viv Richards, you just bowl and pray he might mishit 😂. Couple of shots he played were just out of the world.😮. Thank you for uploading.
And now there are a lot more nations in it now and if those nations were all in the 80's viv richards ,greenidge ,and haynes would definitely have the same amount of centuries as they have now
These australian pitches and grounds are monsters till 1990 /1992.since than even average batsmen became legends when bounce got low and boundries became shortest
Windies Australia and sri lanka participated in this tri series competition i guess . There were 10-10 matches played by each country and windies won all 10 matches and then won the final too
Dare say millenials would decry the "low" scores with no appreciation for how not only each State's pitch had its own character & just how HARD it was to score runs against a Windies team in their golden era. Not to mention the Aussie team still rebuilding from retirements.
During 1975 to 1985 time, West Indies Pace battery would exert so much pressure that when they were off & spinners Richards & Gomes come to bowl, Batsmen tend to get over relaxed. That would result in giving wickets to these two. Also the extreeme pressure of the pace battery forced many runouts of the opponent team...
I don't think cricket hasn't changed drastically.Look batting of Desmond Haynes vry much similar to 2024.He is batting like T20 match.Basics are same, yes technology has given added advantage.T20 came ,DRS introduced.
No..people actually watching cricket at the Gabba! They were the best days of one day cricket…Get rid of the 20/20 garbage before it kills the game altogether..😢

Nanny state started to appear in the early 90’s. Now look at the cricket, the grounds, the crowd. Completely different and completely different expectations…. take me back, I miss that Australia.
How plumb was Haynes for lbw. Ball crashing into middle and off stumps, halfway up. Ridiculous. 30:12 Mr Randall obviously had his mind on "other things"

Pride goeth before a fall. Nothing illustrates this proverb more starkly than the West Indies. Swagger, Sir Viv, for your nation is now the laughing stock of the cricket world. Couldn't even prove yourselves worthy of competing in the World Cup. Afghanistan qualified, proving that they are better than the West Indies. In future tournaments the name Af will reign over WI. What a laugh.
and yet given the opportunity what you said is arrogant and prideful thus ensuring the cycle will be repeated. WI maybe a laughingstock but Sir Vivian is more respected than the whole of Afghanistan who qualified for the world cup. now that the WC is over who is talking about them. Yet old man Viv could be on a beach catching coconuts and hitting with a palm branch and that will feature the world over. mate be careful how you denigrate old champions just because the present generations are not as a good as those of the past. We still have a champion spirit, and would as you've seen in Australian test this period our younger generation just did what no other team except a strong Indian team have done and what an Afghan team could only dream to do. go find out yourself. But just remember the old champions have never fallen its just that the new generations have never risen. including Afghan. when you guys win something, you are then qualified to critique.
@@barrytelesford5265 I couldn't quite follow your butler English. Suffice it to say the Windies has fallen so far that even novice Bangladesh can defeat it without breaking a sweat.
you have to be on top to have fallen. some teams would never be on top to begin with. But yes, a victory here and there is a gift for them. I'm sure you could follow that English.@@tryarunm

Wonderful to see how much the West Indies were enjoying cricket... and being the best in the world... Effortless... ❤❤
❤well said and well OBSERVED
so nice to see this match after so many years...remembered watching it live in my hometown..great match👍👍
❤agreed
❤absolutely CORRECT
Growing up watching the West Indies is all that kept me in the house. All legends, especially my idol Malcolm Marshall...RIP bro 👍🏾👍🏾🙏🏾
a real shame where WI cricket is now ...............although the team this series 2024 gave a fair crack right ?
Windies batted with a flourish, a joy to watch.
What a team the West Indies of the 80s was!!!
such a fast and bouncy pitch. that was the beauty of 70s - 90s cricket. These type of pitches should be given to the bowlers in todays age
Fantastic channel, thanks for uploading these classics, not only is it great cricket but also a great deal of nostalgia....
Billy bowled with intent and fire against Windies that season!
Such a refreshing change from seeing his lackluster performances in 1986, 87, 88 and 89!
The mighty West Indies, so many great names in that team. And David Boon bowling... that was unusual.
West windies not the same team now crap
So true

What about Kepler Wessels, Playing here for Australia before he shifted to South Africa
When one day cricket was great. Cheap 20/20 is the McDonald’s Fastfood of cricket, to entertain non cricket fans.
You know, the funny thing is that the old timers in the 70's and 80's used to say exactly what you've said in relation to ODI's like this compared to Test Cricket.
@@farmlyf ODI gives fair chance to both teams because 300 balls are not small numbers. Only problem is 2 balls concept in ODI makes ODI bad.

KeplerWessel is talented batsman, while every body was struggling he showed his class.Genius.
For 47?
Who remembers Desmond Haynes in 2024..... Wow what a childhood memory. Him and V Richardson were brutal
Haynes and Gordon Greenidge were one of the best opening partners.
RIP Richie Benaud & Frank Tyson (both 1930-2015) & both Tonys Greig & Cozier (1946-2012) & (1940-2016).
Clive is Captain, Vivian is VC. What a time would have been to be alive.
If TV wasn't there, we would have missed watching fire now.. marshal, garner, holding, Richards were gem...
I think in those days, when you bowl to Sir Viv Richards, you just bowl and pray he might mishit 😂. Couple of shots he played were just out of the world.😮. Thank you for uploading.
Hahaha....I wonder what bowlers had in their mind when they were bowling Viv Richards.
Imagine Viv and Clive playing together in todays era with big bats and 60M boundaries. Absolute destruction
And now there are a lot more nations in it now and if those nations were all in the 80's viv richards ,greenidge ,and haynes would definitely have the same amount of centuries as they have now
Absolutely fantastic channel covering the World Series Cup matches played in Australia.
Keep up the excellent uploads!

What a team. NO sledging, no stares no over the top wicket celebration. Just business as usual.

Fancy seeing off Garner and Marshall oh then Holding steps up to the plate!
Its really SAD that the West Indian team won't be playing in the 2023 World Cup to be held in India.
Man of the match should have been given to Viv, he made 49 runs and took three wickets as well.

I love Clive Loyds counting (As we see this in a boxing match ) to Allan Border when he failed down as Richards ball struck him nastily 😂
Those were the days of real cricket 🏏
The amount of batting nicks given not out…. West Indies team vs all of Australia
