I don't understand German but I saw this with English subtitle and he was telling the string players that they started too fast, they put an accent on changing notes and hitting the next note too fast, then says don't put accent...we'll work on it later...when the trombones come in then it gets faster...there should (absolutely) be no breaks..dee dee dah..dee..then the trombones start to play, he says " just as I've always imagined it in my dreams, very beautiful!" It is not in this video but Then he explains how this piece was composed. (the fire brigade and their siren (blowing horn) the composer writes the notes on his cuff, and the burning house and the crying old woman outside of her burning house then he writes more notes of crying woman etc.)!
Wow! Those definitly were different times. Listen to those Violins! I don't know if these actually are the Berliner Philharmoniker but if they are, I gotta say that things like that wouldn't happen.

Yeah Celi thought Karajan was Coca Cola…but it’s weird, Karajan is pretty great sometimes, and sometimes Celi isn’t. I guess things are more complicated in the end…

Bah. Nix da ausser Töne.
Karajan in Salzburg, the last days of the Great Dictator, perfoming the favorite composer of Adolf Hitler. One of the greatest renditions of this magnificent Austrian conductor performing a complete Wagner concert.
@@martinatherton3018 I know very well, what i want to say. Karajan recorded this work on Deutsche Grammophon (DG) and this is the rehearsal. I recommend you to listen his recording, because it's magnificent, since I don't understand why do you think it's horrible.

A absolute master in his field - complete discipline
Jaja. Grantig macht er die Violinisten runter.

Met him once in Salzburg Festiville as a extra in Tosca

I think you are mixing up the last part with Bruckner? He was inspired by a theater fire for his 7th Symphony.
Music is the best medicine!

Listen to the Klaus Tennstedt version. Incredible.

This are the Wiener Philharmoniker not the Berliner.

Ach so!
Ja. Langweiliger kann man dieses Werk kaum bringen.
Unbelievable!
Die guten Geschichten sind längst erzählt... ?
(the good tales are told since ancient times...)
Here is one !
Karajan's wife ought to have advised Herbert on the choice of a shirt. A loose, black linen top would have worked.

Oh Brunhilda you're so lovely. Yes I know it. I can't help it!
I can never not hear that with this piece XD
Sorry to say this but Karajan looks really really sick in this film. Even worse than 1988 or even in 1989. Amazing music making anyway.
...I beg to differ. To me, he looks remarkably young and healthy for a man who has done such an incredible amount of living in his 80 years.
For an 80 year old?? He looks great.
if you all , on.this forum would listen to Celibidache version of Tannhauser you'll forget about karajan or any other business man.
