    One major weak point in a John Deer planter is the parallel arms. The steel and cast is softer than the bushings inside an they will wear out quickly. There is a bushing kit you can buy an it will save your parallel arms because the bushing is softer than the steel and cast and bolt. You just have to replace the bushing when it wears out. Saves lots of dollars! Just a tip, both 16 rows we run have been converted drilled out an had the bushing kit put in. Take care, enjoy it and that was just a head up, nice looking planter!

    • @Thomasfarmstn
      @Thomasfarmstn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Maxwell, probably when that time comes I’ll look into Norseman parallel arms. One reason I went with Deere is the aftermarket options.

  • @griggsfarmsllc
    @griggsfarmsllc ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice Planter!
    Do not run both those cast iron wheels. You’ll pack seed in ground way too hard and get poor emergence. Been down that road before. One cast and one rubber or spiked works well.
    With rubber/spike wheels and no cast you’ll need to run in the second or 3rd notch for downpressure.
    You’ll love those spoked guage wheels. I’ll never replace another guage wheel with a solid.
    Greenstar isn’t hard to install in your tractor. We’ve installed it in our blue ones. Just gotta get the wiring harness and figure where to hide the excess wire. You should even be able to tie into a non Deere receiver. Just have to configure it right. You’ll love running the planter off the 2630 monitor much more than the Pro 600/700

    • @Thomasfarmstn
      @Thomasfarmstn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will probably go with one spike wheel. It was a different closing system but I had spikes on my 1200.
      I’ve never like the Case monitors, in fact that’s the only thing wrong with my old one was it needed a new monitor. I like the guy who is installing the Greenstar so far. Several phone calls and text to make sure the right harness is being made.
      I’ve got all winter to get this rig like I want it. I may start adding Precision to it next year.

    I was surprised this spring to see three of these on a dealer lot and how different they were equipped.
    One was dry fertilizer, 3 bushel boxes.
    Another was liquid fertilizer mounted on tractor, commodity tanks, and vaccumt interplant 15 inch rows.
    The last was dry fertilizer along with liquid micro nutrients/starter fertilizer tanks, and 2 bushel boxes.
    One thing I found interesting with the dry fertilizer boxes they didn't have augers to meter the fertilizer but meters like grain drill. The bodies were transparent to see if its feeding but I have a feeling that that might be a higher maintenance issue.
    I have some pics on my Instagram.

    • @Thomasfarmstn
      @Thomasfarmstn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Was the planters ones that the dealership ordered or farmer ordered? Yes these things can be equipped anyway you want, simple to complex. Not much liquid or dry fertilizer applied with a planter in this part. So I opted out of those options. Hit me up on Instagram. I’ll follow back.

    Those spoked gauge wheels must perform better in sticky conditions?
    Even though I run an older 7300, I think JD makes some good planters... looks like you have a lot less electronic controls on it, should be a solid unit! Don't worry about the vacuum system, it should perform good.

    • @Thomasfarmstn
      @Thomasfarmstn  ปีที่แล้ว

      If mud is sticking to the gauge wheels I’m not gonna plant. Here we do have wet spots in otherwise dry fields. Mud does eventually get packed up behind the gauge wheels. Open like these are that is less likely to happen. But the main reason I like these is a couple times a year I get a rock or corn stalk root ball stuck behind the gauge wheel. A lot easier to clean out like this. Plus it’s cool. It’s like having custom wheels on a car or truck, lol!
      Just wait a week or 2. The monitors haven’t showed up yet.

I had a territory rep that had been with CNH for 25+ years tell me that CNH and other brands don’t want mom and pop dealerships anymore. They want multi-state dealers so the parts/service price is the same for 500+ miles in any direction. Mr. James that owned the Trenton/Newburn Tn dealerships was a thorn in the side of the current dealership. He was selling combines 10:1 against them. I can give you a whole lot of info about a lot of the goings on that subject. I’m die hard red myself. We still have the first tractor ever bought on this farm. 1945 H Farmall. I’ve heard start with 250lbs so 300 probably is the magic number. What firmers did you go with. That’s definitely on my list.
