    I love stuff like this. Ever since I was a little kid I have been into tractors and heavy equipment, just can’t grow out of it.

    nice to see a big outfit like them that seems to take care of their machinery...they slowed down going through the gullies. most big farmers keep driving full speed ahead no matter what.

    Great video. How many bu/ac were they getting here? I've read the 20" spacing can offer an improvement of 2-7% yield over 30" without increasing plant population.

    Love your videos. Please correct my math if wrong. With 40 ft. Head, 200 bushels/acre yield, at speed of 5mph, you are ready to off load in about 5 minutes. If you had 2 or 3 of these combines in a large (500 acres) field, how many tractor/grain carts would you need? Also you would filling a 1000 bushel truck every 7-8 minutes to head to dryer and storage. I guess my big question is how do players work a field, keep combines from down time, and eliminate bottle necks. Any combines out there with 500 or 600 bu. Bins on board. Hope these are not stupid questions. Thank you

    Very nice video! Can you explain the effect on yield by 20 versus e.g. 30 inch row spacing?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure. The farms I film on 30 and 20 are both averaging the same this year. I have heard in a dry year narrow rows yield better. This year there was 20 inches of rain in July so there was plenty of moisture.

    • @Snowtruckdriver
      @Snowtruckdriver 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chaff you see out the back has run through the machine. It consists of corn husks and cobs and stalk residue that breaks off when the strippers pull the main stalk down and through the rolls.

      +MrFFerigS thank you for watching. This was filmed in 2016. I think most farms hit 200 bu last year. This year so far we are seeing 220 to 240. A 200 bu year is a nice year here in Kentucky so 2017 is a record breaking year. This is a 22 inch row corn head.

      The fields in Louisiana have a solid carpet of corn coming up due to either machine problem or farmer not setting machine properly. John Deere is the dominant combine in the area. It is also not just one field either. Last couple of weeks have been from Mississippi, La., and Arkansas. See the same all across the region.

    why so much hp on the cart. We use a 250hp in 300 bu corn and 1100 bu cart without a strain. Is it because there are no small tractors on the farm?

    • @Shane-lb8iz
      @Shane-lb8iz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ran a 325 hp tractor on a 850 bu cart with tracks and it was a DOG. I'd heard it takes a certain amount of "extra" hp to move the tracks. The guy I ran for should have had 400 hp minimum on that cart.

    • @robertreznik9330
      @robertreznik9330 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tracks are not good for speed! The combine should be harvesting 70 bu/min and loading the cart at 210 bu/min. The problem is it needs 1 1/2 1100 bu carts. 3 short haul trucks or more if over 6 miles and a quick dump. That is why most run two combines and 3 carts otherwise there is a lot of stopping. All that hp requirement produces a lot of heat as friction so things must be smoking! Using 400 Hp of heat takes 20 gal of fuel/hr The combine is not consuming 20 gal of fuel/hr. I know mine is not to harvest 4200 bu.

      Its actually only a 16 row cuz if you factor in these are 20" rows instead of 30" you can divide 24 by 3 which is 8' per 10" rows and then double to get you answer, 16 rows. Or i could be wrong and it could be 24 like in the title

    • @bigtractorpower

      It is Kentucky in the United States. It is repetitive. When I first started narrating the videos I would voice them in the field and it was difficult to film and recite all the details from memory. If you view my current videos you will see they are much clearer in the narration because I film in the field and narrate through a microphone back at my desk.
