The commercial for this car in the USA are actually pretty well made. I was at a bar this weekend and the commercial caught peoples attention, such as, "woah what is that", "new bmw?" etc. then when the name was revealed people were all like, "Oh shit, that's a Kia"
I have had my Kia Stinger GT for a week now. And wow!! Fun to drive, looks good and was at a great price. This is a fantastic car and is worth checking out.
I pick mine up in the UK in two days! Was on the fence before a test drive and then was immediately off the fence running through Kia fields. Nearly went for the 2.0 but then drive the V6 and there was no question what to have.
Todd Medium Wellington III says the guy who could never afford a BMW. Keep hating on a car you'll never be able to afford. On the road, my 335i will crush this Kia and I'll look good doing it at the same time 😂😂😂
We have made some huge improvements in the KIA Stinger GT performance. It has to be one of the most underrated cars we have had in our shop. We have been testing for the last 4 months couldn't be happier with the results from a few performance parts.
I always enjoy your videos but being of the same "unnaturally excited about practicality" ilk, I am now a subscriber to your channel. Looking forward to the long-term final review.
I went to Kia ready to put down a good down payment for a lease on the Stinger GT, only to find that It would be less (by very little) to buy the car. Whyyyyyy Kia. I was rooting for you...we were all rooting for you how dare you Kia
I want one of these so incredibly badly!!!! I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Limited. I love my car, but this is truly a remarkable car. I'm defiantly considering trading my Sonata in for this in the near future.
Greg Moore agreed. Why they pit it there is beyond me. It would save them the design headache and it would be cheaper for the manufacturer and customer if that thing didn't exist. Or, if they do put it, make it functional.
It does seem to be a stretch to reach the infotainment center from the driver's seat. Well, sumbigdes! You mean that I'd have to pull over to manipulate the thing?!! The iron'y of distracted-driving accidents is not lost on me here.
really, they have to change it. It's been in use since kia's image was like paper cups and plates where you buy it to be used only for a short time and thrown away. Now they changed their image, to go with that they need to change their logo as that's the 1st thing people look at. You see Toyota, you think of quality. See Benz, Luxury, Kia, old people will think it's disposable like the old days.
Would you recommend Stinger as a family car? I do not mean a Multivan type family car.. just 4 people (2 kids) reasonable amount of baggage and driving around (even longer distances), plus highly enjoyable when I drive alone. Could do? Any ideas?
Sadly this is true. Also the removed the Qi wireless charger and rear heated seats, but they left it on the Canadian spec....makes no sense KIA!!...Not sure why KIA gave KBB a Canadian version to review, a bit misleading if you ask me.
I like this car it's got a nice stance, the front end isn't the best looking but it's not ugly. It looks good from every other angle. From all I can see it's a great car with a great chassis but 50g for a Kia is just hard to get my head wrapped around.
After Hyundai's establishment of the "Genesis" brand, which tends to be more luxury focused, I believe the Korean giant will establish a sport oriented brand, and they will name it "Stinger", and this Kia Stinger was debuted as a testing sample to study the market's feedback about such a project from Kia, which is a daughter company of Hyundai. They had used the same strategy with the Genesis brand before via the Hyundai Genesis which is now known as the Genesis G 80.
While there aren't really any obvious straight across the board competitors, I think once the Buick Regal lift back is available, it would pose a real question to the consumer. It will have a turbo 4 and available AWD and the GS version will have a naturally aspirated V6. Pricing would probably be more in line with the KIA than an Audi or BMW too. I don't know why it's taking so long for Buick to get it out, perhaps because they're actually made in Germany, which is better than other Buicks I suppose, that are made in China (Envision).
Diego Montoya The Regal GS is unfortunately a much lesser car. It will be slower, and smaller. It also offers brembos only up front as opposed to the Stinger’s at all 4 wheels. The only advantage may be a bit more polish on the interior. Too bad GM doesn’t offer the Tour X in GS trim. That actually might be worth buying.
ryan lieberman Yeah that's what I understand, that even the V6 will only make 310 HP. So it will indeed be slower than the Turbo V6 in the Stinger. I don't believe it's smaller however, as the Stinger has 43 cubic feet of interior volume with back seats down and the Regal lift back will have about 60 cubic feet of space. But man, Opel has a GSI version of the wagon in Europe and I wish we could get that one. It is true forbidden fruit.
Everything is pretty much perfect with this car. My only critique would be an even 400 hp/tq get this thing fast. And that center screen looks slightly outdated and cheap/plasticky for this class of car
I want this car, but I'll wait to when the Yellow color becomes a selection option for the build. This car looks sick in Yellow, and right now KIA don't have their head in the right place as they are not letting the consumer build how they want their KIA Stinger to be. If you want Yellow now you will have wait later this year for them to release a limit edition KIA Stinger GT model that will have a locked trim but will be in yellow and only 400 sold. Not too happy with that decision. Hopefully this is different by 2020 for me when I contemplate ditching Audi.
This Stinger has me confused- What’s the difference supposed to be between Kia and Hyundai as brands? In GM parlance, Kia = Pontiac , Hyundai = Chevy ?
Hintonbro kinda/sorta/not really. Kia is partially owned by Hyundai, but they operate fairly independently of each other and their lineups mostly don't complement one another. They've recently put more effort into having Kia seen as the more emotive, sporty brand, while Hyundai will be more mainstream, with a sports division (N) for products where it makes sense for them.
Brand recognition, I would think. Americans are probably more interested in the manufacturer and wouldn't know without seeing the physical badge, while the Koreans may be more familiar with their domestic brand... Idk, that seems to be the trend with a lot of Japanese cars (i.e. Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC)
Korean here, and also living in Korea. It's the brand premium and recognition. Kia wants to stand out more here in Korea with the Stinger. Also, extra features like heated rear seats, wireless charging, even different level trims of the vehicle (dream edition), etc. exist :)
ideaynojodas it's still called the Stinger, but the badge is a stylized 'E', for Engineered by Excellence, Exclusive, Evolutionary, etc. It's more a mantra than a whole sub brand, and will denote their premium RWD products, which will also include the K9(00) replacement coming soon.
Which is a better deal, a base Stinger or a base Mercedes CLA 250? They are about the same price. The Stinger has more power and is bigger with a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. The Mercedes has brand name gravitas and much better gas mileage.
Funny story... I went to test drive this car and an SS last weekend. Loved them both. I am large person at 6'3" 325lbs and found I had nice room in the SS and a little cramped in the Stinger. Got down to trade in and financing and found this was going to kill my budget. I was about to walk away when the Sales person asked me to hold on and look at a trade they just got. I ended up buying a 2014 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec 5.0L with 43,000 miles on it. Couldn't be happier. :)
Not on Toyotas level, but will still be much reliable than any European or American brands. They have really good power train warranty so u won't have to worry about any major as much. Kia and Hyundai have really been focusing on reliability in recent years, they're solid cars.
According to J.D power, kia is the highest ranked brand for INITIAL quality (the first few months). But then in the long term, kia is still losing to toyota and lexus, coming in at top 3 Which is still very good in my opinion. Resale value isnt that good though. But even then most kias are a steal since they give you premium features for an affordable price. And that 7 year warranty is pretty sweet.
I have a 2012 Kia Optima SX. After 6 years of owning it not a single problem, just oil change and front brakes that I installed myself. I also put new tires because the original ones were not as grippy as I wanted them, specially with all the torque on the turbo engine. I’ve only spent around $500 in maintenance after 6 years and still runs brand new.
wow that interior design and parts looks a lot like Audi/VW. the steering wheel came of 2017 vw passat . those center vents came from audi. and so does the temp controls knobs and button. Is Kia german?lol
The Mustang also has center circular vents and saw does Mercedes. Who's to say any of that is original on any brand. The difference is KIA Stinger has a taste of Audi and BMW in it's design and engineering.
Until Consumer Reports actual owners' survey publishes reliability data and IIHS crashes them, I won't even go into the showroom. Not that Kia cares what I do with my money.
ctk4949 They want you to buy it and stick you with the crappy residual value that Kia is known for. They are hoping that your desire for this car, will outweigh your common sense.
tiny b For sure, they are already offering a $6100 lease rebate on the GT2. So that comes out to about $44K. Ali Peterson from Sunshine Kia wanted $3K down, $706 a month!!!!!! LOL!! He kept on insisting you pay tax on the selling price of the car for leases!!
Truly one of the most epic cars to come from Kia Motor. Hats off to both designers and engineers of the Stinger.
DartdashcamSC no shit captain obvious
alextb10 who hurt you, buddy?
Those would be Germans and not Koreans
Best of both worlds, German engineering and Korean reliability;)
Bakhtiyar Mamadaliyev I think it depends on the model, doesn't it? Same as in every brand
The commercial for this car in the USA are actually pretty well made. I was at a bar this weekend and the commercial caught peoples attention, such as, "woah what is that", "new bmw?" etc. then when the name was revealed people were all like, "Oh shit, that's a Kia"

digmacdiggydoo I agree with you I love my Stinger GT2 awd
I pick mine up in the UK in two days! Was on the fence before a test drive and then was immediately off the fence running through Kia fields. Nearly went for the 2.0 but then drive the V6 and there was no question what to have.
Today marks the 1st year since I've owned it and it's aging gracefully. Great review guys!!
Yes been waiting for this
I Just love This car...
Hands down the best looking sedan so far after Alfa Romeo Giulia QV.
90's Boiler Room Agreed 100% 👌👌👌👌👌
If I hadn't bought a new car last year, this one would be it.
Ha!
Sven Hallauer nice
Great review as always Micah! It's a fantastic car! Thanks KBB!
finally something that's not a predictable boring BMW
Todd Medium Wellington III says the guy who could never afford a BMW. Keep hating on a car you'll never be able to afford. On the road, my 335i will crush this Kia and I'll look good doing it at the same time 😂😂😂
Gary Downes Can never afford, hate, crush? you mus bet an 18 year old kid. Your response lacks understanding and maturity
Gary Downes
Lol 335i is cheap
Todd Medium Wellington III Yeah BMW maybe boring but atleast it doesnt have a thrash KIA badge! Lmao!
Bobby P lol badge snob
Looks badass !! The interior is beautifully crafted and is unlike any other KIA cars i have ever seen .
Love the car, and your reviews are awesome as well.
We have made some huge improvements in the KIA Stinger GT performance. It has to be one of the most underrated cars we have had in our shop. We have been testing for the last 4 months couldn't be happier with the results from a few performance parts.
I own a 2016 optima. Wish I waited and go this! She’s beautiful
That was an excellent review!!! Very entertaining.
If it wasn’t for Micah... I would not watch these videos. He makes these car reviews exciting to watch. 😊
I always enjoy your videos but being of the same "unnaturally excited about practicality" ilk, I am now a subscriber to your channel. Looking forward to the long-term final review.
Kia's best card to date. I want to test drive one!
I went to Kia ready to put down a good down payment for a lease on the Stinger GT, only to find that It would be less (by very little) to buy the car. Whyyyyyy Kia. I was rooting for you...we were all rooting for you how dare you Kia
Best car of 2017
Ebenezer Eb 2018
I want one of these so incredibly badly!!!! I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata Limited. I love my car, but this is truly a remarkable car. I'm defiantly considering trading my Sonata in for this in the near future.
I like this design language for the stinger but I am not so sure about the rear end of the car.
The only problem with the design is the fake hood scoops.
@ longbowdt - it’s not that much of a reach. Micah is a 4’5 miget. He has trouble in a Chevy Sonic 🤣
J/k Micah, love you dude 😍
And you sir got yourself another subscriber
I bet if this had an Infiniti badge, it will sell more at a higher price
The Future Well since they already have the Q50....
I drive a porsche and a bmw. I was really impressed with a friends stinger gt.. I told him he saved a lot of money for almost the same experience.
It will last far longer than a German competitor that’s for sure
im gonna take a wild stab in the dark here but I think this car is gonna be the best future used budget / performance sports car there is !!
Thx! Love my Gt line 4 banger is plenty! H K audio is sweet!
Can KIA please change their emblem? :(
Perhaps you should stop focusing on a logo and what people think of a logo.
Danny they have other emblem designs
really, they have to change it. It's been in use since kia's image was like paper cups and plates where you buy it to be used only for a short time and thrown away. Now they changed their image, to go with that they need to change their logo as that's the 1st thing people look at.
You see Toyota, you think of quality. See Benz, Luxury, Kia, old people will think it's disposable like the old days.
the cost is unimaginable and probably not worth the risk for them. As everything goes there will be haters for everything.
They MUST. It looks Cheap. They will sell more cars for sure with a better looking logo.
What a stunning car! Amazing video editing, love that fast moving camera effect and music!
so the limited slip differential option is only available for the V6?
If only the infotainment screen was a little more premium looking ... 👌🏽
Supreme Etnel yeah looks a bit cheap
Supreme Etnel I believe it’s available with a better looking and slightly larger screen.
Supreme Etnel I said the same thing but the 8 inch infotainment screen looks miles better
@Supreme Etnel - it looks better than the Audi tablets sitting on the dash.
TheLifeOnHigh No it doesn’t 😂. Audi screen look way better. Meds due
I'm surprised the MPG is so low on both engine types. My V6 300m is 17 years old and gets about the same mileage as the Stinger V6.
Thanks for shooting this in Long Beach,ca
Cool review
Love the Datsun shirt!
Did he say lane keep assist? Because it didn't have that when I ordered one
Would you recommend Stinger as a family car? I do not mean a Multivan type family car.. just 4 people (2 kids) reasonable amount of baggage and driving around (even longer distances), plus highly enjoyable when I drive alone. Could do? Any ideas?
Ivan Ryban it worth it
They really all over the place to Rpv to signal hill to the Vincent Thomas bridge in Pedro sick video
360 camera not available in US even though it was shown in the video.
Sad, wish they would have included it in the US
It’s just sad AF...also...no rear heated seats? And Canada gets it?? WTF Kia?!
You serious?
Sadly this is true. Also the removed the Qi wireless charger and rear heated seats, but they left it on the Canadian spec....makes no sense KIA!!...Not sure why KIA gave KBB a Canadian version to review, a bit misleading if you ask me.
So the U.S version of this will have a 360 degree camera after all?
Get a new camera kbb, give us more pixels please
go RED 8k! :D
At the price point, is the base Stinger better than the Maxima?
i like the music. it's really suspenseful
Thanks Micah.
I like this car it's got a nice stance, the front end isn't the best looking but it's not ugly. It looks good from every other angle. From all I can see it's a great car with a great chassis but 50g for a Kia is just hard to get my head wrapped around.
Micah needs to review that Grey Honda Pilot.
I still can't believe the type r wears 20" rims, thats insane!!
I’m thinking this is going to be a steal as a one year old cpo.. given that it doesn’t have the badge appeal. 20k one year later?
Does the stud driver come with the car?
Is the car tow rated?
Sweet car man,I really think it would be incredible on the track.
Kia, is stepping up there came.
the stinger is being featured at the Paris Car Show under a banner can this be a KIA
Wish they were still under 40k for all that. Now they are a easy 52-54k which sharply undercuts it’s value proposition.
The first KIA I'd actually consider owning... (Even tho I hate the coupe/sedan thing everyone is doing these days)
Looks really good

They had used the same strategy with the Genesis brand before via the Hyundai Genesis which is now known as the Genesis G 80.
Why would they do that? Hyundai just launched N, and Kia has plans for their GT moniker
How the heck do you have a top view camera in America!?
It's amazing how so few people can look past a badge
My concern would be resale value, otherwise a great car and hopefully it sticks around for a while
I would love to drive one of these.
Bro what is the model name of your adidas shoes
i wonder how much this will cost after 2 years
I want this car so bad
Since when has KBB become a praise-for-all advertisement?
I love the car but it bothers me a bit that to get the higher end leather and ventilated seats you need to optional the way up to the $50k GT2.
I’m getting one in 2020 !

October 20th ? You guys drove the Stinger GT before the reviewers who drove them on Nov 14th
Cant decide between this a dodge charger or a chevy ss...
D Tay charger.
stinger. everyone has a charger.
Drive them all. Then decide.
Forget the charger. Definitely go with either this or the SS
Get the SS. It may become valuable, now that it is disconnected.
This Stinger has me confused- What’s the difference supposed to be between Kia and Hyundai as brands?

Everything's great about this car. Though every journalist or any viewer recognizes that they will still spend money on a camry or accord.
In Korea, the Kia Stinger comes with a different logo. Idk why the North American models do not come with that. Can someone inform me plz?
Kyle why does it matter?
Brand recognition, I would think. I love it.....
Excellent car. Thank you for making this Kia. Your keeping the big boys on their toes.
So do kias last in the long run? Like many years down the road? I’ve read that they dont. But i wouldnt know much about that
Amber My 2012 Optima just reached over 100K and I haven't done anything to it besides brakes, tires and oil changes.
Not on Toyotas level, but will still be much reliable than any European or American brands. They have really good power train warranty so u won't have to worry about any major as much. Kia and Hyundai have really been focusing on reliability in recent years, they're solid cars.
According to J.D power, kia is the highest ranked brand for INITIAL quality (the first few months). kia/hyundai suck. Almost any Japanese, American, German car is better.
Micah is so adorable
I can't wait to find one at copart, someone wrecked with low miles!
wow that interior design and parts looks a lot like Audi/VW. the steering wheel came of 2017 vw passat . those center vents came from audi. and so does the temp controls knobs and button. Is Kia german?lol
Oh wow designers and engineers?? That's like german team now..basically kia is not korean..its german like automaker...lol
I mean in some ways they are now but much more reliable
What's that with LOL every comment you make? Looks to me it's very derisive lol.
I actually thought the design engineer came from BMW's M division
The Mustang also has center circular vents and saw does Mercedes.
Who's to say any of that is original on any brand. The difference is KIA Stinger has a taste of Audi and BMW in it's design and engineering.
I never considered buying a Kia...until now
VintageRKO I have a 2011 forte koup and it isn't too bad
Kia going places
Stick shift???
Until Consumer Reports actual owners' survey publishes reliability data and IIHS crashes them, I won't even go into the showroom. Not that Kia cares what I do with my money.
In Denmark a stinger is 100.000 $ ..and thats the starting price... What is it in your country😛
Lease deals are terrible!!!! Especially at Sunshine Kia in Miami, FL. Where they charge you tax on the price of the car and not the monthly payments!!
ctk4949 They want you to buy it and stick you with the crappy residual value that Kia is known for.
V8 and better looks and this thing would sell like crazy
Are kias still cars with a short lifespan?
Red or white
Don't forget cooling seats
I don't wanna hear "but it's a Kia" again
Love the hot guy who put his arm around mike like they were lovers🙈
Nice car!!!
I'm wondering if Stinger will suffer the same fate as Cadenza. Great on paper, but not much in real world.
Absurdity Express clearly it lives up to the hype
