    “Go for the 6 since the price difference isn’t much”.
    Take your journalist blinders off. The price difference is $6495 or 20%, hardly a small jump.

      Honestly driving a 2011 legacy which is awd and has almost the same power as this kia, you really dont need any more power for a daily. Personally i would rather have something like 200-300hp as a daily because thats not "slow" and it is going to be MUCH cheaper to maintain. Brembos are not cheap as well as double turbos vs 1 turbo... smaller wheels on the stinger base= cheaper tires. Im sure at the time where both of these cars start to die, the gt version would easily have double the cost of ownership as the premium. And insurance... its not cheap for higher hp cars and all those safety sensors in the bumpers...

      @@macaron3141592653 WORD. I had a GT1 when it first came out; my insurance skyrocketed from my VW GTI (40, single, PERFECT driving record) and the fuel economy was atrocious. The extra expenses werent worth it to me, so I traded down to a GT-Line with the 2.0 engine this year. I'm perfectly fine with the performance and drive of this engine, and my insurance is back down to normal haha, and my gas mileage is way better. I also don't have to worry about the long term maintenance of replacing the larger tires or them fancy Brembos.

    Kia is current offering some incredible rebates on the base models. 26K for a 2.0T RWD sportback sedan is pretty damn good in my opinion.

  • @t.k.morris

    My preference and idea of what Kia should have done with the Stinger, other than offer a manual transmission, would be to put the naturally aspirated v6 in it. That would have helped to keep the cost down and provided an excellent motor option.

  • @canadabear72

    I just went to Kia USA and Honda USA websites and configured comparable Stinger 2L and Accord 2L. The Kia comes out to $40 450, while the Honda rings in at $38 502. I think they're both great cars, but the Stinger will undoubtedly be more engaging to drive, since it's RWD and generally a sportier car. I think if I were looking at a full spec 4 door sedan in this price range, the Stinger would get my money!

    Good review. Having owned two Kia Sorentos, the current one being a 2018 SX-L model, I'm sold on the brand. I test drove both the GT and the 2.0 Turbo. As you note, the 2.0T is a fine choice with plenty of power. And the RWD dynamic is a big plus. But if one is considering it, here's some advice. Don't drive the GT or GT2 versions. Driving one back to back with the 2.0 T makes the latter pale in comparison. Furthermore, the hatchback design of the KIA is a plus but once the Stinger is equipped to match the Accord 2.0T Touring or the Mazda 6 Signature, the price of the KIA gets close to that of the base GT model and well above that of the Honda or Mazda.
    I considered all three along with the Camry V6 XSE. Ultimately, my choice was to replace my 2013 GTI Autobahn with a 2018 version at nearly $6000 off MSRP. Just couldn't stand the thought on not having a GTI in the garage.

    I think Stinger base is the sweet spot when you get RWD base with good negotiation. Stinger base can be had less than 30k RWD with leather.
    With 100k warranty this CD ar seems better deal than accord 2.0t, Camry v6.

      Yeah - Im just coming to that conclusion as well. Ive been shopping the usual suspects (Accord, 6, Camry), but i think this might be the perfect car for me.

    To basic. In Europe and the Middle East, you can get the 2.0 Turbo Stinger in high specification guise with pretty much the same equipment as the 3.3 GT2. Dunno why they don’t do this for the US market.

      Honestly im fine with it being a little cheaper. Its about time we get rwd and awd long wheelbase hatches for decent prices. This is literally in a class on its own and its my next go to car. I have a 2011 subaru legacy and it has almost the same power as the premium stinger however the stinger gets better mileage and the hatch is super beneficial. I would stay with subaru as my next car but they dont make any 250+ hp hatches anymore and i dont want an outback. I dont need the ground clearance and worse handling.

    I have not seen a 2.0T on the road ever. I have seen a few Stinger GTs even in my small city. 32K is starting but a loaded premium 2.0T with awd is almost 40K and some dealers are discounting RWD GT and GT1s to the same price that's why customers rather go for it.

  • @Muffinman9
    @Muffinman9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I test drove both the 2.0T and the GT model last month. Ended up leasing a GT1 despite it being a bit above my price range.
    The 2.0T is GREAT, but at that price point I felt I'd rather have the new Mazda6 or Accord 2.0T. Lots more features and luxury for a lower price, with the same if not better performance. The Stinger definitely looks the nicest though.
    The GT trim just makes driving so much more enjoyable. It's not a light car, so I felt like the 2.0T wasn't quite enough to earn the sporty look.

    Motoman created a video talking about the base 2L Stinger that was interesting. The base Stinger is surprisingly well equipped (smart key, android auto, leather heated seats, etc) and still makes competitive power. The EX-L 2L Accord is the same price as the base Stinger. It costs nearly $6,000 more for the 3.3L which includes LED headlights and 19in wheels, but not much else. Is the $6K worth it?

    I mean if you think about it not many turbo 4s rev nearly as high as this one. I personally think this is the best sounding 2.0t in the compact luxury sedan segment.🤷‍♂️

  • @waynerm002
    @waynerm002 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Watched the video again, based on my test drive of the 2.0T premium with the Bridgestones tires, these Michelins make the interior sound quieter. Let's hope they ship the new ones with Michelins instead. Love the 3.3T but don't need all that power. I might end up getting the GT though as it is fun. I see there are mods being made for both engines to boost the power. Decisions, decisions.

    I’m really impressed with Kia. I like the fact that it reminds me of a Porsche Panamera in every trim ,and I would definitely choose this car if I wasn’t so much into Honda. The only thing that’s missing on this car is a sunroof or a Panoramic sunroof.

    I've seen several Stingers in the wild here in SoCal, and every single one has been a GT. While still a good car in base form, the general consensus from people considering the car is to just go for the GT, myself included. If I couldn't get the GT I'd probably opt for a Cadenza or Avalon.

    Nice review as usual! Looks like this car has Michelin tires on it and the interior noise didn’t seem too loud. Tested a 2.0 premium and the tire noise was annoying, didn’t even bother with doing a full drive due to that. I hope the replace the tires and make the interior quieter for 2019. What’s your take on the interior noise? Which Michelin tires were on that car?

  • @Grandmasterjord
    @Grandmasterjord 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just wanted to correct one thing, the 2.0T does have it to where you can pump engine noise through the cabin and it is also variable.
    At least the premium does. Not sure about the base model. I’m assuming it doesn’t since yours did not.
    I love my premium though. Greatest car I’ve ever owned by far. Will be getting the GT 2 next. Can’t wait.

      Lavonte A I honestly don't know if they have turbo engines in those model years but if they do I'm pretty sure the powers is less. The newer optimas 16-18 make 245. I think the base stinger does as well with more torque

  • @ap4709pk
    @ap4709pk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t think comparing it to a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry is fair. This car’s competitors are VW Arteon and Audi A5. When viewed in this company, the Stinger is an absolute bargain. One of the best features, a full size spare tire with matching wheel.

  • @DriveAndBeDriven
    @DriveAndBeDriven 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The Stinger in this base model seems like a pretty solid vehicle, but I wish there were a few exterior design features that they would alter in future model years. For example, I wish they would add LED headlights as STANDARD equipment, offer more attractive (less basic looking rims) on the base model, and possibly offer a performance appearance package for those who don't want to step all the way up to the GT models but still want more sporty and aggressive styling.
    That blue color really pops, though! It reminds me of the Electric Blue color that Hyundai offers on the Elantra. Nevertheless, from one car reviewer to another, great review, Sofyan!

      Deshawn Saunders Yeah the side vents seem a little over the top as well. I just wish the whole car was as classy as the rear end. Both the hood and side vents look cheap imo.

      Brian Vtec The stinger strikes me as one of those cars most people think is cool but if you ask them if they would buy one they’ll probably say no. Kind of like Saab’s were actually. Cool cars that no one really wanted to buy.

    The Stinger is one of my favorite cars but spending this much I would get the Cadenza with the 3.3 n/a instead of a 4 cylinder

  • @abdel1175

    Quick question doesn’t this mean that Kia is competing with itself cuz it’s cadenza is at the same price range as the stinger.

  • @Liger._King

    There's no way I would spend close to that much money on a 4-cylinder car, turbo or not. In my opinion, it should be around $24,000.

    • @canadabear72
      @canadabear72 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      636kidd....But you imagine 39K for a fully loaded Accord is ok? The Stinger is way more fun bro, and has all of the same features at that price.

    • @TheLadiesman0815
      @TheLadiesman0815 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I guess it’s for someone who doesn’t want or need the extra power and wants better gas mileage. Only thing I can think of lol.

    • @waynerm002
      @waynerm002 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The extra $4200 is for the AWD system and the Safety system plus some other options for $37k. Some folks don’t want a sunroof or the NAV system so they would be fine with that. Folks tend to forget this car competes with the A5 Sportback, 4 Series GC, MB 4 door coupe, etc.. You can’t get one of the others in base form for that price. While folks are thinking KIA of old, KIA is making strides to target the luxury market as they have proven they got the goods to compete with Toyota, Nissan, etc..
      KIA/Hyundai hired folks to take them to the next level in design and performance. They already proved their vehicles will last with their warranty. Now they need to improve the dealer experience to make the overall brand experience great. Their prices are going to increase as they add higher performing products.

    Quite surprised you didn't mention the A5 when you said there is nothing like this. I think if you spec it out similarly, it's hard to justify getting the Stinger. For about $5k more, I'd rather get the Audi interior and fit / finish. What do you think?

    • @monza9916
      @monza9916 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim Lee the audi a5 is spectacular auto in and out!

    • @canadabear72
      @canadabear72 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jim Lee...You're right. The A5 is a competitor for the Stinger. But it's a lot more than 5K bro! I just configured the 2L prestige model and added the features that come on the Stinger. It's 57K! That's about five grand more than the fully loaded GT2 model Stinger, which blows this Audi away performance wise. Kia makes a pretty intriguing choice.

    • @theredline
      @theredline  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jim Lee While the A5 Sportback is indeed a competitor, the price difference is considerably more once you option it up to match the Stinger’s equipment. For a moderately equipped premium plus trim, you could get a Stinger GT2 and at that point, for $50,000 we would. The interior fit and finish is not far behind the Audi at all, and what the Audi really gives you is the virtual cockpit display and a quick shifting dual clutch transmission. The Kia is actually more fun to drive in the corners and gives you that rear drive handling dynamic.

    • @normt5463
      @normt5463 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim Lee Or a Regal Sportback 2.0T for $22,000.

    • @jimhlee
      @jimhlee 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Holst but would you say that the options match up like for like? I've owned two prior Hyundais, and found the build quality to be still lacking. I'm not talking about fit or that it breaks, but the depth of quality being not as good.
      Savagegeese did a video on the Stinger and showed that it rattles and creaks (which I experienced in my 06 sonata and 12 Tucson). Stuff that is a hassle for them to fix under warranty, but doesn't happen to experienced luxury makers.
      Which would you rather buy at $46k? A Stinger AWD or 1 year old Audi with 8k miles and a few less options, but everything you need. That's my conundrum. I think I'm 3 years the Stinger appeal will fade but the audi will still have its luster.
