    I've been helping my Mom pick a SUV in this class and I guided her to one of these over the CRV, RAV4, and Forester. She got a '23 Premium plus non-turbo tonight. It checked all the boxes in my opinion. No turbo, no CVT, all the safety features, and made in Japan.

      Turbo engine from Mazda is reliable. CX-9 with its high reliability ratings demonstrates it.

      I love my 2017 CX-5, I got it a year old, it is sporty, steering wheel isn't numb so good road feel, comfy seats so good for long drives, heated front & back seats, with USB ports in the front & back for charging, & enough room for food shopping for a small family, I hate the fact it is the number one thing they all point out, feels like they're being paid to shill against this car, I think the SUV in this size range with more back cargo space is two cubic feet bigger than the CX-5.
      But there is something wrong with the paint chipping on all of the models, maybe they at last got to it on the 2023, but can't hurt to get a ceramic coating, I found a local college kid & his brother that did mine on the cheap. And its paint looks better than on the new mazda's with the soul crystal red, mine looks deeper.
      Have you learned you can do turns stupid fast? the onboard computer will break & speed up different wheels for milliseconds to stop any roll, I take 90 degree turns at 40 mph (with a dry road & I have sport tires on now) ... LOL but do not do it after food shopping, everything inside goes flying, but great fun if your girlfriend is putting on lipstick, last time I got her, she had lipstick on her ear. 30 mph with factory tires might be tops.

      Yes, exactly the reasons my brother just bought one. He has a 1999 CRV, but this Mazda is more what he could not get in a new CRV or RAV4 or any other car for that matter.

    We bought the 2022 GT (or S Premium in the US as it sounds) earlier this year and we're quite satisfied with it. My kid's are only 10 and 8 this year, but there's still plenty of room for them to grow into before we switch out. Cargo space does suck, but it is sufficient for the 4 of us doing a 1 night stay in Niagara Falls plus outlet shopping. Though there is no comparison in terms of gas efficiency vs our other vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited, it's comparable to my old car which was the 2010 Jeep Compass Limited FWD. Compared to the Compass that had more cargo capacity, the CX5 has AWD and is far more comfortable with better leg room all around...not sure how it would compare to a modern Compass though.

    We missed the boat on the previous gen 2013 -2018 Rav 4 specifically the 2016 -2018 refresh. My wife's 1999 Lexus RX300 finally bit the dust at 391k. We had the car for 15 years and bought it in mint condition in 2008 with 125k so we got out money's worth. As you can probably already tell longevity is the key for us and as someone who does his own repairs I do not want a CR-V due to the CVT and Turbo 1.5. We also do not like the current Rav 4 but like the previous gen 2013 - 2018 in limited edition as it meets all out needs but we are having issues finding a used one with low miles that has not been in a accident or isn’t the price of a new Rav 4. I never considered a CX5 but to me it has the looks of the 2013 -2018 Rav 4 which we like and since you can get it new for about the price of a 2017 Rav4 limited and traditional fuel injection with a standard 6 speed automatic it hitting a lot of high marks here. The problem is I don't know how long term reliability past the warranty would be.

    My brother just bought a base Mazda CX5. And I must say he made a great decision. He didn’t want a turbocharged engine nor did he want a CVT transmission. His 2023 Mazda has neither. It has a naturally aspirated engine with ample horsepower and torque, a “regular” torque converter transmission (Mazda is distancing itself from CVT’s), AWD , nice interior and etc. he made a great choice. No other manufacturer makes a comparable car. All SUV’s like the CX-5 Select are either turbocharged and/or have CVT transmissions.

    Is not a pick-up truck, or a sports car, or a jeep wrangler I think most of us want all three, but for whatever reason we get a SUV, most likely kids & money. Back in 2017 I tested 90% of the SUV market, I wanted a sports car more, so the CX5 was my only pick.

      Not sure the hight, but the newer ones with the power liftgate allow you to set the max hight. I have what I think is a standard sized garage and when the lift is all the way up it still has room so it doesnt hit the roof or anything. But it can be lowered. Just be careful because until recently many new models were giving credit for missing features, most notable the power liftgate and bose system. My 23 carbon edition i just got luckily had both these features added back

    • @mirageh264
      @mirageh264 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      From what I can tell, the trade-off with the CX-5 is rear leg room, fuel economy and some of the cargo space in exchange for superior engine, transmission, and handling performance, superior safety, and superior reliability. I think they are good trade-offs depending on what you are looking for in a SUV. In my case, I rarely have rear seat passengers but need an SUV to move more cargo then I do people. As well, I'm of the mind that if the car has the performance to move out of the way or merge quickly, the more likely it is to prevent an accident. Again, you pay for the luxury of speed with fuel economy but that's why Mazda built this as an alternative to the market. No one else offers this in an SUV outside of luxury brands.

    • @jj5515

      I agree with you to an extent. Similar needs for a vehicle here as well. My thinking is, if I’m paying 30-35 k, I want to make the best of my purchase. CRV and RAV4 legroom seems to provide that.

    No wireless Apple CarPlay. Yet there is a wireless charging pad which is realistically useless because you have to plug in for Apple CarPlay. Not nice to have dangling cords in your car in 2022. My Mazda app needs improvements. When you remote start your car , the car shuts off when you open the door. Should sense the the FOB and continue to run.

    They need to put some work on the interior design when comparing to the other brands.

      To the contrary, I find that their interiors are outstanding.

    That ain't no suv... way too compact to even be considered a suv. That's a wannabe suv,but can't afford the extra cargo room to make getting in and out easier. This is more of a sedan.
