We bought the 2022 GT (or S Premium in the US as it sounds) earlier this year and we're quite satisfied with it. My kid's are only 10 and 8 this year, but there's still plenty of room for them to grow into before we switch out. Cargo space does suck, but it is sufficient for the 4 of us doing a 1 night stay in Niagara Falls plus outlet shopping. Though there is no comparison in terms of gas efficiency vs our other vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited, it's comparable to my old car which was the 2010 Jeep Compass Limited FWD. Compared to the Compass that had more cargo capacity, the CX5 has AWD and is far more comfortable with better leg room all around...not sure how it would compare to a modern Compass though.
We missed the boat on the previous gen 2013 -2018 Rav 4 specifically the 2016 -2018 refresh. My wife's 1999 Lexus RX300 finally bit the dust at 391k. We had the car for 15 years and bought it in mint condition in 2008 with 125k so we got out money's worth. As you can probably already tell longevity is the key for us and as someone who does his own repairs I do not want a CR-V due to the CVT and Turbo 1.5. We also do not like the current Rav 4 but like the previous gen 2013 - 2018 in limited edition as it meets all out needs but we are having issues finding a used one with low miles that has not been in a accident or isn’t the price of a new Rav 4. I never considered a CX5 but to me it has the looks of the 2013 -2018 Rav 4 which we like and since you can get it new for about the price of a 2017 Rav4 limited and traditional fuel injection with a standard 6 speed automatic it hitting a lot of high marks here. The problem is I don't know how long term reliability past the warranty would be.
My brother just bought a base Mazda CX5. And I must say he made a great decision. He didn’t want a turbocharged engine nor did he want a CVT transmission. His 2023 Mazda has neither. It has a naturally aspirated engine with ample horsepower and torque, a “regular” torque converter transmission (Mazda is distancing itself from CVT’s), AWD , nice interior and etc. he made a great choice. No other manufacturer makes a comparable car. All SUV’s like the CX-5 Select are either turbocharged and/or have CVT transmissions.

Thanks for sharing, another good selling point is Mazda is still using the very reliable 6speed traditional automatic torque converter drive transmission no CVT similar to the RAV-4
Is not a pick-up truck, or a sports car, or a jeep wrangler I think most of us want all three, but for whatever reason we get a SUV, most likely kids & money. Back in 2017 I tested 90% of the SUV market, I wanted a sports car more, so the CX5 was my only pick.
