In the last two days you have mentioned (declining) mobility. THANK YOU! You are the ONLY designer I have seen that mentions mobility as a design issue and I SO appreciate that! Moving furniture to have clear pathways, keeping thing from not being broken/knocked over, designing for wheelchair use instead of beauty...so incredibly difficult! Keeping windows clear to be seen out of, positioning a hospital bed where a dining table would be for the able-bodied. These are the design tips I need. (Whatever that disorder is where you are constantly moving things/furniture around - like every weekend - I have that!)
Kira, in 48 years of marriage I’ve had 15 homes to decorate in different countries (we live in Rome) in Africa and Asia as well as in Italy. And I’ve always found it exciting. I always bring a few family antiques ( a table, an accent chair or a painting or two), a couple of pieces from a country we’ve been on a diplomatic mission and mix them up with arts and pieces I find in the country we are in. In fact those are the homes I’ve enjoyed more than the homes I keep in Rome as I have to make do with a “museum ish” decor dating back to the 16th century!!! Which I find eekie. I love to decorate flats we rent out using IKEA and putting something from the 17th century or the 18th. It blends well. No decorating is not hard…and now that I also have your channel to refer to…it’s become more interesting…thank you.
I loled when you said “we all have that room of doom” 😂 cause it’s so true! Love your tip on picking furniture pieces that are versatile in multiple spaces and your tip on arranging in THREEEEEEEs. The magic triangle lol thank you for these super helpful tips 🤗
How can you only be 25!!!???? You're so put together and knowledgeable! I was a hot mess at 25! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. Loooooove your channel! Love your content! 💃🏻💃🏻😘
My parents, neighbors, and my family routinely play 'musical furniture' with our own and each other's pieces. We've rearranged so much in our houses, and it's a lot of fun to have a totally different look using the same furniture. It's a bit difficult with small houses like ours, but we can still do it!
One of those great investments... im pretty sure I got like 250 in all sizes from Amazon for less than $20. I put them on EVERYTHING...... my other favorite is museum putty that j just roll into a little ball and you'll never straighten your art again. I hang my art and it never fails, i come home and it's like a few framed pieces look a mm off here and there and it sounds trivial but it's a PIA but thats over! Museum putty in a corner will keep it perfect. I highly recommend it.
Yay! I've implemented a few of these hacks such as using a wide table lamp on my night stand, a nice tray on my coffee table, styling a few throw pilows on sofa, styling in 3's and using a neutral color palette throughout my home. I also love shopping my home before making unnecessary purchases.
Dear Kiva … I laughed out loud when you said “ do as I say not as I do!!!!”. Oh my goodness … my father used to say that ALL the time !!!! So I finish this video with a huge smile 😊 and with such a warm happy feeling!! Such good suggestions , thank you xx
I really enjoy your content and creativity. Thank you for sharing your gift with us 🙏🏾Would love to see more videos on how to decorate a room for a multifunctional use (i.e. bedroom/office or bedroom/office/workout).
I have a small home BUT my piano bench seats an extra person, 2 if my grandchildren, and at the end of the dining room table. Always came in handy with a large family dinner at grandma’s
Kiva you know exactly how to start the weekends right. We absolutely love your ideas and you've inspired me to find the right wallpaper this weekend. Thank you x
I just bought a house and these tips are helpful!! I’m trying to buy 2-3 bigger pieces of furniture per month but it does add up 😫. I bought a bed bench from home goods that I love for $250 and now I can see that bench in other places in my home. Awesome tip 💕. My next piece to find is an entryway table!!
You really put a pearl in my world! Thanks for another joyful, helpful, full of great tips video! I appreciate how you boost my mood as well as fine tune and elevate decorating.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good video. I come home after 15hr shifts, I just want to sit in front of my T.V. with really nice folding tray, this way I don't have to use my coffee table. Having said that, the folding tray is hid in my laundry room, & viola no worries!
Currently using Command hooks to hold up my curtain rods and curtains since I just moved and was getting stressed out not knowing what to do with no tool box handy. Game changer 👌🏾
"Room of Doom". Oh Kiva, you are so humorous! I've learned so much from you while laughing all the way. Thank you for your wonderful channel. You are wise beyond your years.
Our coffee table is a large leather ottoman. The ottoman holds all our board games and card games. On the ottoman, I have two trays which hold decor. If we have people over we can move the trays to make more seating and it also can be a place to play our board games without moving to the dinning room table.
I know how to avoid many holes on the wall with your recommendations without drilling holes to hange the decorations, thanks for all the time saying' saving money is your priorities, best regards, raiza Theis
I am addicted to Pinterest. I use it for design ideas daily! I’m moving into my first apartment next year and want to find quality pieces I can keep for my lifetime (rugs, lamps). It really helps with how I will make my space stylistically cohesive.
Yeeesss, I try my hardest to buy furniture that can be placed in just about any room. It really is the biggest bang for your buck! Plus it makes commitment issues so easy to manage 😁Just place it in another room, Boom 💥 brand new space!
I love your content so much! I had to laugh about the furniture pads. I too was feeling “spicy” and decided to move my armoire, credenza and china cabinet today. I learned to use old towels from my Mother in Law and managed to move everything safely myself. Now my family gets to guess where everything is…AGAIN 😆
Love this video! Very helpful info, but Kiva, sorry, the VCR stays! And yes, I do have it connected to a smart tv! 🤣 Before you ask, the dual cassette tape deck and the Ipod Classic are staying too! 🤭 Keep up the GREAT work! 👍
Yasss…this is me after having to downsize. AND production delays due to the pandemic only worsened my drama. It’s all on me, which is terrible, but I’d rather have no furniture for 6 months so I don’t have to buy or see any cheap or ugly furniture in the interim. BUT I still have latent prior buyer’s remote, which extends the selection process
I like all your tips. I did not know command hooks hold heavier pictures these days and the patterns of peel and stick wallpaper are nice especially when renting. It's good to know they can be removed without destroying landlords house. I know my landlord doesn't have enough money for costly repairs with 2 mortgages, taxes, repairs and his own family to take care of, so he will appreciate this when I do have to move.
I love the idea of having furniture that works in multiple places. And I think modular furniture can be such a good solution because it is so flexible and really helpful for people like me who always mess up the scale and end up buying stuff that is either too large or too small. 😄 Would love to see a video on this.
Hi Keva! Thanks again for your ideas and reminders. I just turned 68 and live alone. Literally last night I researched furniture pads and skids. I have oversized round white skids BUT now I'm planning to use BROWN SQUARE fit to size ones for my DR and LR. With large area rugs and antiques I need them everywhere. I've dented the pine floors in the kitchen in front of my appliances too! So they are next. Looking forward to more from you! 🙋♀️
I had the volume very low because my roommate is prepping for a class she teaches this week. I don’t know if I missed it but Teflon discs under items that you want to move (yes, frequently) makes moving those heavy items a breeze to move.
Love your videos, Kiva! So many good ideas. BTW, have you trademarked your slogan "The Luxe Look for Less" ? If you have not, it would be worth the legal fees to do so, BEFORE someone else does it, and then you get a letter from their lawyer telling you that you can no longer use it--or worse yet, they want you to PAY them! This exact thing happened to a couple here on TH-cam who have a diet channel. They had to pay someone $10,000 to buy back the rights to their own channel name! Just looking out for you, girl. :-)
Felt pads are great for flat pack furniture, but try moving a hardwood sideboard that weights a ton around a room. It's impossible even when teaming up with someone. I know because I've tried it.😅 In this case, a good tip to move heavy furniture is to use polystyrene pads and wraps that either come with the furniture or can be sourced from various home & deco retailers. Interestingly enough, my dining table has its own felt-like pad sticked to the bottom pedestal which makes it very easy to move around, but it's a lighter type of hardwood. Very thoughtful touch from the manufacturer.
Love your videos Kiva ! I love your videos and I’m always happy when some of your suggestions are things I’ve also done. Being older and have been in my rental jr 1 bedroom since the late 90s , I’ve really done a lot to make MySpace feel like a home. It just seems like it’s always a work in progress. I just put down a new kitchen floor using peel and stick tiles that I put right over the old linoleum floor that has been looking dingy for years. One thing you said about s to lose my VCR…😒 spoken like a true 25 year old. I have no plans in the near future to toss either of my two VCR/ DVD combo players. I have collected hundreds of movies on VHS and dvd 📀 in these last 30 years and I have classics that can not be replaced, and I love having the cover art that came with tapes, DVDs and CDs . I have everything neatly hidden in decorative boxes and placed on my bookshelves. No one can see any of my media because it’s all hidden in plain sight, except my 50 inch TV which is on a low profile ikea media cabinet that I custom designed using three different pieces . I’ve learned most of what I know from my years working in high end retail, and studying the work of my favorite interior designer, Candice Olson.
I was have trouble with felt pads falling of my dining chair legs. I put a tiny brad or a very small nail with a head on it, and counter sunk that head well within the pad. I works.
I heard you say “command hooks” last week. I bought a pack and used them to hold two pieces of art to the “hand built and hand painted” black & white alternating ship lap I built and installed in a guest bathroom. I looked at the plain walls for months due to fear of nails in my beautiful walls haha. I cut the Command strips in half (the frame was very narrow) and put them in two places on each side of the frame. Drawback: they can be seen from the side. Positive point: they really do hold well and are pretty forgiving when it comes to leveling a picture.
I’ve living under a rock 😂 I just hung a small picture and made two big holes on my beautifully and recently painted wall …. Thank you Kiva!!! I will use 3m claws 🤓
Eating dinner in front of the television at the coffee table 🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️ (My 6 year old calls it "the picnic table" because we eat there so often and rarely drink coffee there 😂)
Kiva, since I despise moving and hate packing knickknacks, I do not purchase a bunch of decorative "stuff" that serves no dual purpose. This said, my home looks pretty bland. Just the mandatory basics.
i love your videos. You come across as more genuine than a lot of the TH-camrs. Besides, the first video I watdhed, I was pretty sure that you mentioned being in Pittsburgh. We love our hometown girls.
I don't have a coffee table! I have an ottoman with a flat top and a tray that can be put there...but nothing ever stays there bc I have a 2 yr old dog that needs to run around and play 🤷
The 3M picture hanging strips are also wonderful for spaces where you might be afraid of the pictures falling. I used them over my son's changing table and all over his room because they'll never get bumped off the wall. I could see using it over a sofa along a wall too. No one will take down some prized art when they're trying to relax with a pillow behind their head.
I’ve never used the picture hanging strips but I’m gonna pick some up today 👍🏼 I wanted to do a small gallery wall but was dreading all of the holes on my freshly painted walls lol.
@@cyna1103 don't use them if the sun shines on that wall all the time or if it gets super hot. We nearly got a concussion from a painting behind the sofa when the strips fell off the wall.
Kiva!I've only recently found your page, and subscribed to your content. I love you opinions and eye. Ive been watching your content like netflix. Keep up the great content!
"You may want to eat in front of the television" I hear that while I'm finishing dinner and sitting my plate on the coffee table while I watch Kiva on TV 😆
Thank for the idea of putting peel n stick wallpaper on my furniture and then painting it. There are furniture pieces I want to paint but I wasn't sure if I should ruin the furniture to find out if the look will work for me.
@@KivaBrent Kelly Green. Which is a hard color to find. I had taken one of my bath towels to Home Depot to make a color match paint. Originally I had ordered what I thought was a Kelly Green Couch from Wayfair. I quickly sent it back for the navy one because the original couch was a baby...green. Gross. Therefore, I decided to paint my console and maybe my end tables Kelly Green. I still don't know my style. I just know I have five favorite colors (jewel tones) and I like water. However, my style isn't nautical or coastal. My water theme is more abstract. I know what it represents but the average person wouldn't Maybe I'm possibly grandmillennial with a hint of glam or something like that.
You just seem like such a kind, sweet person! Had to say that. Thanks for the videos. :) We prefer wall sconces rather than lamps on the nightstand. What should we keep on the nightstand for visual interest if we have wall sconces?
Hahaha, the hack to have multiple purposes; so yes!! I am looking for new bedside tables and my problem with the current ones is that I can'r repurpose the them anywhere else and that makes me sad!! I will now look for tables that I can repurpose somewhere in the future 🥰
Not everything is available on streaming and they can remove things at any time (even things you've "bought"), so I keep DVDs of my favorites and a small DVD player. 🤷♀️ Also, I have a small bedroom, so my nightstands are too small for wide table lamps if I still want room for some water and my glasses.
I really like your new tree!!! The whole setup is amazing! Kb you never disappoint when it comes to design inspo! And the video quality is amazing, i noticed it right off the bat

"You may want to eat in front of the television" I hear that while I'm finishing dinner and sitting my plate on the coffee table while I watch Kiva on TV 😆
THANK YOU!!
Love the ottoman option. It gives more seating options too.
You have such high value content! I always use something from all your vids
I'm so happy to hear that. Thanks so much Amber! 💕
Thank You for sharing those hacks
Yes room of doom so true ☺️
Excellent my dear; you have a lovely home! Thank you ever so much, for sharing your knowledge, and insights. Ottoman shopping; yes!... lol!!
Thank for the idea of putting peel n stick wallpaper on my furniture and then painting it. There are furniture pieces I want to paint but I wasn't sure if I should ruin the furniture to find out if the look will work for me.
Of course! So glad that you found that helpful! What color are you thinking about painting your furniture pieces?
@@KivaBrent Kelly Green. Which is a hard color to find. I had taken one of my bath towels to Home Depot to make a color match paint.
Originally I had ordered what I thought was a Kelly Green Couch from Wayfair. I quickly sent it back for the navy one because the original couch was a baby...green. Gross.
Therefore, I decided to paint my console and maybe my end tables Kelly Green.
I still don't know my style. I just know I have five favorite colors (jewel tones) and I like water. However, my style isn't nautical or coastal. My water theme is more abstract. I know what it represents but the average person wouldn't
Maybe I'm possibly grandmillennial with a hint of glam or something like that.
Great tips and the humor was on 10 today. My home still looks like we just moved in. Decorating is stressful
You just seem like such a kind, sweet person! Had to say that. Thanks for the videos. :) We prefer wall sconces rather than lamps on the nightstand. What should we keep on the nightstand for visual interest if we have wall sconces?
Wow, this is a great question
loved the vid!
Love you… hugzzz. You’re a blessing
Love the Hermes necklace 😍
Hahaha, the hack to have multiple purposes; so yes!! I am looking for new bedside tables and my problem with the current ones is that I can'r repurpose the them anywhere else and that makes me sad!! I will now look for tables that I can repurpose somewhere in the future 🥰
Not everything is available on streaming and they can remove things at any time (even things you've "bought"), so I keep DVDs of my favorites and a small DVD player. 🤷♀️ Also, I have a small bedroom, so my nightstands are too small for wide table lamps if I still want room for some water and my glasses.
Loved these tips Kiva
Good tips. Love that blouse on you.
I love your videos but this one is the bomb!! You are giving me great ideas😄
Thank you so much!!
Aht! Aht! Aht! I'm not getting rid of my DVD player! Nope! I want to watch all of my old school movies! HAHAHAHA!
I'm watching Homeland season 7 from the library as we speak!!
I really like your new tree!!! The whole setup is amazing! Kb you never disappoint when it comes to design inspo!
And the video quality is amazing, i noticed it right off the bat
50 holes in the wall 🤣…😭 I’ve been there, and I’m a designer (not interiors). 🤔 maybe because I’m a designer…oh. And the “Room of Doom” is our garage. Thank you! This was super helpful and inspirational.
