I'm glad he linked it in with Corbyn at the end. Very similar dynamics of parties within parties who think they want to help the working class but actually have total contempt for the traditional proletariat
My realization RE cap gains taxes as an entrepreneur is that in the success scenario, it encourages people like me to aim for splashy, unsustainable VC-backed businesses instead of making sustainable, profit-making businesses since I will pay way more in taxes doing the latter. But it’s a price I’m choosing to pay… 😅
The problem with the PMC socialists argument is that it devolves into the Cato/neolib argument for why you can’t have the most means tested program because the standard in the Global south is 3 dollars a day.
The problem with student loan debt forgiveness is one that it creates a horrible incentive for doing it over and over again and it creates a bad incentive for colleges to just charge more and more. I am very much against student loan debt forgiveness and I have student debt that would probably be forgiven. It's like reverse Robin Hood since the loans actually are not forgiven they're just paid for by the government printing money in one way or another or by taxing the general public 70% of which did not benefit from graduating from college, so its profoundly unfair and regressive. It's really just like health care in a lot of ways The government subsidizing and giving out these loans to 18-year-old kids who are told they need to go to college just means any kid can get unlimited money more or less and they're not price sensitive at all. If people screw up and make a bad decision that should be on them to fix it by paying it off to good lesson to learn when you're young.
Noah makes really really stupid generalizations all the time, especially with respect to people outside of his social bubble. Narrative creation is certainly not his strong suit, he's much better in nuance. Republicans don't faction? Have you been watching the news?

I do like this podcast, though. It's one of my favorites
