  • In this episode I will show you how I repaired the Backhoe CROWD Cylinder (Dipper Cylinder, Arm Cylinder, Stick Cylinder) on 1994 John Deere 310D Backhoe. I hope you will enjoy this series of videos as I enjoyed making it for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me and I will be happy to answer your questions.

    I'm working on tilt cylinders on my John Deere 555 G high lift. Almost exactly same . This has been very helpful. Using the orange split ring to remove as you say. I knew i was going to rebuild my cylinders and started spraying P. B blaster penetrating oil almost every day to all threads even to detach hoses. I think it helped a lot.. I will probably post on my youtube channel when I'm done. Again a very good demonstration.

    The key to removing that cylinder is to have it on a steep hill. That way you can fully extend the cylinder. Then pull the far back pin and use the hydronics to pull the cylinder out. Then remove the forward pin. Then remove the hydraulic lines and lift the cylinder out.

      I didn't have to remove the cylinder completely to re-seal it. I appreciate your feedback.

      Good morning sir, they sell them at any o rings and seals shops or hydraulic repair shops. They call them Cast Iron Piston Rings for Hydraulic Cylinders. They also sell them online. I hope this answers your question. Be safe and have a great day

    Question... i have rebuilt a cylinder on a john deere baler. I had an extra o ring or seal left over from the new seal package. i' m rebuilding a tilt cylinder on my 555g john deere crawler today. i again have a couple left over seals that do not go to anything. do companys put extra in the bag for possibly different application of that particular cylinder so the consumer for sure has all the parts. Thanks for yourcx answer in advance.

      Some kits are made for many cylinders. Some require more orings or different sizes. Some kits only have the amount of rings that you need. When I finished repacking the cylinders, I ended up with few extra orings and seals.

    hi Salam, I also have a 310d. Your videos have helped me out regarding rebuilding some cylinders, and I do appreciate it. But now all of a sudden today I'm having an issue going forward if I go straight I'm okay, but if I tried to turn the wheels meaning the front are not tracking correctly. Like if I'm on grass and I try to turn it'll actually rip up the grass I didn't try it in four wheel. I should do that. But if I lift a machine off the ground and put it in four wheel it works fine it seems as though once I put pressure back on the ground I'm having a real difficult time making a sharp turn. Hope you could help

    • @SalamSayhood

      Hi, with the information you provided, it sounds like you have front differential issue. If the spider gears inside the differential is broken or stuck, this will lead to the problem that you are having with your machine. Disconnect the 4 wheels drive mode, use the front loader and lift both front wheels to clear them from the ground, then try to spin each of the front wheels manually, then have help to hold one wheel and try to spin the other. If you can't spin one wheel, then it's for sure differential issue. Some machines they have front axels lock (to get you out Incase you are stuck and should only be used to drive straight) however I don't think the 310d 4 wheels drive have that feature. Please keep me updated.

      @@SalamSayhood I'm not outside right now but I think I figured out the problem, I let my friend drive the machine up the driveway and he inadvertently hit the differential button next to the brake. And sometimes that doesn't come back on its own so I think this may be a very easy fix. I just have to manually lift up that differential pedal and I bet you everything will be fine. Again thanks for your help and I will let you know if that was the issue

      @@SalamSayhood I went out and tried the backhoe and it was the diverter pedal causing the issue being it's an older machine it doesn't come back up on its own you literally have to very strongly pull it back up. And that was the issue if I recall on your machine you just have a two-wheel drive correct. Cuz I saw your video on packing the wheel bearings and that's when it hit me that you have a two-wheel drive not a four wheel drive. Mine is a four-wheel ,again thank you very much

    Have a 310 c , do they have a spring that goes inside the piston, I'm having trouble remembering how I took it apart.

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello David, if your cylinder have the cylinder cushion where the rod slow down the speed at the end of travel and this requires a spring and other components mounted on the piston, then watch this video:

      If you can provide me with your machine pin number, I will look it up for you. Or you can go to this website and enter your machine number and search for the cylinder. It should also show you a break out of all the parts of the hydraulic cylinders.

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thomas, I still have all the tools. Are you looking for the tool to remove the castle nut or the regular nut that tie the piston to the rod?

    • @universalspiritualguide
      @universalspiritualguide 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SalamSayhood Salam, The regular nut that tie the piston to the rod is very stubborn on my JD 310D like your. I tried several tools from store without success. Looks like I need a customize tool like yours. Wonder where you are located and if I can borrow your customized socket wrench. Thank you!

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I did was, weld the nut to 3" wide 1/2" thick steel flat stock, the stock I believe it was 5 feet long. Then I heated the nut to about 200 fahrenheit, I supported the socket with a block of wood so the socket don't slip, then I push down on the homemade wrench with my mahindra tractor. I am located in texas, if you are local, I don't mind to let you use the wrench.
