  • In this episode, I'll show you how to add wrought iron fencing to columns. The fencing is made from inexpensive plastic sheets called cross stitch mesh, and you can make short or long lengths for your gaming table.
    (I lost my voice while sick, so apologies for the poor sound quality as my voice is still not 100%. Probably shouldn't have been running my 3D printer in the background, either...)

    Great ingenuity! I love the builds that demonstrate you don't need to buy a finished product. DIY level 100

      I had bought a bunch of the mesh for another project and it was sitting there all this time while I was trying to create realistic looking fencing. I tried very thin strips of balsa, but it was too difficult to work with... I did manage to design some in CAD for 3D printing, but it was very time-consuming and not everyone has a 3DP. Glad you like my take on fencing, and thanks for the compliment, Jeremy.

    OMG...GENIUS!!!! Thank you! I have an old large decorative bird house I am transforming into a haunted house and was trying to think of something for wrought iron roof trim and fence. I just happen to have a piece of this material in white that I've been holding onto for like 15 years (a crafter never discards anything, right?!) This will work wonderful with a bit o black paint! BTW: Love your hair and glasses (I bet you made the glasses!). Thanks again.

    THANK YOU for this tutorial! I have come back and watched this again, I know half a dozen time since the first of the year - the last two are this week with my canvas, cutting board, and blade in front of me, cutting as I'm watching you start the pattern. I'm making zoo cages for my 2018 Christmas village and this is absolutely perfect. Thanks!

    Oooh, as someone that cross-stiches, I especially love your clever use of the mesh! Looks wonderfully ornate for such a fast and simple way to create it.

    I have never seen that mesh sold in black. All the shops in Britain have it in white only.

      You can spray paint the plastic-there are special types of spray paint just for plastic. Hope this helps!

    To find the "granny grating" look in the area that has the embroidery floss, almost any fabric store will have it and I've seen it at Walmart by the fabric section which is right next to the crafting section usually, so you'll already be there. =) Michael's website says they do carry it in store, you're looking for "plastic canvas"

  • @millsvalleycrafts

    I'm not sure exactly how many different sizes of this plastic canvas, cross stitch mesh, granny grating, ect. there are but the most common in my area are sizes 7, 10 and 14. (7 being the largest at 7 holes per inch & 14 being the smallest) For this fence, I believe he is using the #7. Makes a big difference in scale appearance.

    • @millsvalleycrafts
      @millsvalleycrafts 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Upon closer scrutiny, and watching one of his other iron gate vids, I believe I errored in the size I now believe his mesh to be either size 10 or 14. The holes are smaller than I first thought. My bad!!! :)

    Nevermind you said 3d printer...that says it all 😊
    Still for those that don't have one.
    Maybe try the other options?

    Another great video. I like the way that fence came out. The little nubs left over from cutting the granny grate actually make it look more decorative. Thanks for the link to the gargoyle, too. How about showing us how to make a gate for this fancy fence?

    DM Jim ~ Thank you for sharing this technique ~ I’m so impressed I shared w my Tiny Village group ~ we make similar landscapes for our lighted and animated miniature buildings ~ (Halloween , Spookytown , Lemax , D56 , Christmas ) have some examples on my TH-cam channel. I’m hoping to share my creations of your technique this year in my cemetery scene :) Kudos

    I'm assuming it's a lightweight, bendable, black mesh.
    Maybe similar to a cheap waste paper basket?
    Or model trains shop?
    Or could it be a material that is made of soft plastic?
    Would a cake shop sell this too?

  • @DiscoBarbarian
    @DiscoBarbarian 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    if you magnetize the gargoyles then you can have them jump off the fence and attack your players.
