I will whole heartedly defend Chris. I can see exactly what kind of guy he is, now. He is passionate about guitars. And whatever brand he is with he makes better. He was with Jackson when they made their transition to putting the carbon fiber rods in and coming back to prominence. He was with Esp when they changed things around and really started their USA custom shop. And now he's with Dean, and you can tell he's trying to wash away the stigma that stopped people just like me from even considering the brand as an option. Sure he uses all the marketing buzz words and catch phrases, but you can see he's actually excited. I still like the dude.
almost every company is conforming to the same models and finishes- super strats, humbucker teles, roasted maple fretboard, matte black and burl, etc etc. It's not necessarily a bad thing, as these are good instruments, but it's getting harder to differentiate each brand lol
After all that talk about changes to bring down the high end and up the low end to a more homogenised range, and "still being Dean and remain ourselves" and 'still' started showing basic and high end guitars and with similar patterns as others??? I'd also say the wing logo was more unique. True, you could not read it, but you wouldn't need to. Seeing the wing logo would say it was a 'Dean'.
I'll be honest, I think the headstock and logo have held back the company from a broader customer base for many years. Don't get me wrong, I love Pantera and the V shape will always be legendary. I just can't wait to see how much of affect the change will make. Awesome video as always!
@@bdamotta Yeah I heard they said that it was the old logo in the interview. It's interesting that Fender is going retro also. I hope Dean stick with it though.
Donald Scheer in the early 2000s I had a Select Z with the large V headstock. Man that guitar played soo well. One of the few I wish I still had. I’ll get another tho when I come across one
That "new" Dean logo is not new. I used to own a late '80's early '90's Dean Custom Airbrush series from Korea or Japan(don't remember which) Space Angel model. It had that exact same logo on a Charvel/Jackson inspired headstock.
Dean guitars with a new logo!?? Awww that's so cute!....but let's not forget the old saying. You can roll a Turd in glitter....but it's still a Turd! Lol.
Yep. It starts to come off as a little disingenuous when the pitch is virtually the same with each company. But I get it, it's a job and money talks. If he's in a better place, good for him.
Chris has been with Jackson, ESP, now Dean. Question is who will he be with next year. Obviously a sort after guy, but at some point you gotta pick a team and stay with it?
"Dean is it´s own thing,we don´t copy anybody...." "We´re like a biker gang..." Crom´s balls, don´t you love the marketing talk bullshit this guy is spewing out? The M.Shenker sign. is not a copy of his Gibson Flying V,just with a fugly headstock? (not that I´m defending these idiots from Gibson, but it is what it is.) How many guitar companies did he did the marketing for,in the last 5 years alone?
Yeah dunno why they're focusing on superstrats which is pretty stacked right now. Dean has a handle on Vs so dunno why they just focused on those instead.
I think it’s sill to focus only on pros. The entry to mid level guitars is what MOST people can afford. I think they are beautiful but maybe focus on mid level more
This got is OBVIOUSLY UNDER some stress related to Gibson lawsuit!! Listen to him at thre beginning especially. Hope Dean guitars comes out ahead in this stupid lawsuit Gibson brought against them!
I have been playing Dean for 24 years. This guy has done exactly the opposite of what he is saying. Dean used to not copy, and now is copying others more. I prefer the old logo and wish Dean would be pushing the envelope more instead of following other companies. I will still be getting a custom Dean when money allows, but the company's new direction isn't looking great.
Homie is so awkward lmao "Suuuper save!" *hesitant high five* "we just want to be Dean" *guitars are indistinguishable from other brands* All Dean ever had going for them was Dimebag
I love my Dean V Stealth I just got and that Nash Vegas (1 or 2 word?) is catching my eye. The feel of the satin on my V is just so good that tele style I’m wondering if it’s the same?.. Love tele style. I’m wondering about Chris like others to but am thinking about what he said when he went to ESP that they were just great to work with and after seeing an interview of the CEO of Dean, he’s cool as hell and hearing nothing but good things about their staff. Gotta try things to find what you love.
I knew I’d seen that logo somewhere.....it’s on one of MAB’s guitars @1:06 in this video from 2008: th-cam.com/video/oI536-WRnpI/w-d-xo.html I really like this new logo. 👍🏻👍🏻
@Michael Miller It's a joke. The joke should have got the message through your head, that I know where he worked before. But thanks for the encouragement.
If you're going to put a Floyd Rose tremolo on your guitar please make it an original. No more 1000 series. No more Pings. No more licensed copies. Also no more synthetic nuts. Bone sounds the best and wears longer.
This is why I love the internet, people can show how clueless they are. The 1000 Series OFR is exactly the same thing as the Schaller OFR,its just made in S.Korea instead of Germany. Same materials, same dimensions everything. You can literally swap them out and won´t notice a thing. The Special and 2000 Series are made out of inferior materials and have different dimensions. And about bone nut beeing the "best": when guys like John Petrucci or Steve Lukather, you know touring musicians who play hundreds of live concerts all year, use a compensated nut, made out of synthetic materials, they can´t be that bad.
greekfreak1980 isn’t 1000 - 3000 the same thing just different color? I have the 3000 (gold) and it’s fine. I added a brass block and my guitar (charvel) sounds more amazing and it was fine without it.
The Guitar is Dean. New logo or not. The only ones I ever played that looked top quality and played top quality was the U.S.A. custom built ones. Any of these guitar companies can build you a nice guitar for $5000.00 dollars. The new logo kinda looks better than the last. However, It's not that grand. It actually makes the guitar look cheaper than the previous logo.
Chris knows guitars for sure. But it's kinda hard buying into the whole "lifetime brand commitment" thing once you start losing track of who he's working for on a particular year. He was good with Jackson, I really believed him when he was with ESP, but here he really sounds like a salesman for hire, with a truly unconvincing marketing schtick that feels completely artificial, as others have noted. Dean is a great company, as authentic as any other, but this is both a poor sales pitch and honestly a very unimpressive booth. In fact it seems the "evolution" is about putting out new stuff that is not truly distinctive, with a cheap looking logo that you would find on a $150 strat copy, while the iconic winged logo is still everywhere, starting with the dude's t-shirt, and aside from that ice blue Cadillac in the background that remains completely ignored, I'm wondering where the truly iconic Dean roots have gone. I hope they have a more coherent marketing plan up their sleeve, they certainly could learn a thing or two from BC Rich.
Back in the years, Dean booth @ namm was very attractive : hot chicks, dean live TV with rusty cooley, dave mustaine, MAB, vinnie moore.... 2020 ? nearly nothing new , they have lost 2 Iconic guitarists (RC and MAB) ... and the booth looks like they are in financial trouble with cheap product presentation.... What's happening here ? :/
Nope. Going back to that old logo is a mistake. That logo was on the bargain basement models. The Mustaine headstock is way way way miles better. Metal. The headstock he is bragging about is so cheap 80's pawnshop. I saw so many of those Deans in pawnshops. WOW. I guess he has never visited a pawnshop before. NOPE. Next is getting rid of the V headstock. LOL that would be a high five move.

I love how he said "a band called Deicide" as if Deicide is just a cute little band that's just getting started haha. Very humble!
A Christian Band called Deicide
This guy again!! EVH , Jackson , ESP and now Dean ??? Next stop ,,, Wylde Audio !!!

Love deans heritage though RIP dime
@@Atomic1710 no argument there. Dime was quite an asset to that company
the ESP/LTD Phoenix look awesome

Absolutely love the edge bass shape! and the sound options make perfect sense!!
Oh come on, the Exile model is just the Rusty Cooley guitar.
This dude has worked for ESP and Jackson lmao

I'll be honest, I think the headstock and logo have held back the company from a broader customer base for many years. Don't get me wrong, I love Pantera and the V shape will always be legendary. I just can't wait to see how much of affect the change will make. Awesome video as always!
Funny thing is It's not even a new logo. It's a logo they used in the 80's. Fender released a "HM Strat" this year with their 80's logo as well.
@@bdamotta Yeah I heard they said that it was the old logo in the interview. It's interesting that Fender is going retro also. I hope Dean stick with it though.
The wing logo is much better.
I have a Dean Lower end guitar, But it Looks Awesome! and Plays extremely well! Can't imagine how a Top Of The Line Dean would Play! ...SOMEDAY!?
Donald Scheer in the early 2000s I had a Select Z with the large V headstock. Man that guitar played soo well. One of the few I wish I still had. I’ll get another tho when I come across one
@@jefferybradford5936 I'm glad to hear that Dean will focus on high end & Quality! I'm 73 But I'm aiming for a Z SELECT FLOYD QUILT TOP OCEAN BURST
That logo on the head stock is the same one I have on my 1987 Dean Bel-Aire head stock.
Chris Canella jumps guitar brand more often then I change underwear

That exile guitar is beautiful.
So hard for me to see that and not think “that’s a sweet RC7!”
Like'n the headstock Shape &Logo

They find out hes in Deicide and they get scared
Nice coverage as usual💯🤛. Was there any New Dave mustaine guitars.
Love your videos👍
Glad you got this video, thanks TK
make USA production guitars not just custom shop that would be awesome!
Hey! Mr. ESP is repping Dean now?!
"It's in the perfect, classic p-spot." I know lotsa guys who love playing with that p-spot.

Similar if not the same logo on an old dean custom I have with a Freddy Kruger print. at least 25 years old
Love the tele style they were showing
Total knockoff of Jim Roots fender, down to the pickup color
Oh man I can't wait to get my wings!!
The “new logo” looks like Comic Sans.. They could have just used the current “Dean” logo font without the wings
Chris really must be broke. worked for Jackson, ESP, and now Dean
That's what i'm wondering about too.
I never think of Dean when looking for a new guitar. And after this video, I still don’t.
haha true :D
That bass is beautiful too. Glad they are using fishman.
Miss the days when Dean was downstairs next to Martin
That’s why he is wearing the wing logo shirt cuz it looks cool not that cheap cursive gay logo
Lmao, yeah they could just keep the wings as the logo
Didn’t they use this logo years ago
Great stuff sir!
So, the new logo is basically the 80's Charvel 'toothpaste' logo? Ummmmmm............... okay.............
Sheldon Packwood Dean had a logo like that Already
That bass looks killer! 🐰🤘
The new logo looks similar to the one on my Sweetwood jumbo. Not hating, just saying.
With you on brushed chrome!
Dean guitars ripping off everybody this year , Fender, Gibson, Ibanez...the list goes on
