Oh My God searching for this for quite long.. Was in the crowd as a 11 year old praying for Kapil and what a short beautiful knock Kapil played. Kalicharan and Gomes.. Oh Nostalgia
My Appa used to take me to the matches at Chepauk during the Pongal holidays. We were there for this match (I was 10 years old) as well in his favorite E stand. When Venkat clean bowled Kallicharan on 98, the whole stadium rocked and I was crying cause I used to like Kallicharan very much. Vishy's innings was an instant classic... Chepauk has given me some beautiful memories growing up... miss those days!
@@JaiGalagali Sir, we are all very grateful for you to have uploaded this video enabling us to relive our childhood memories. Dear Sir. Thank you. You made my day. Seeing GRV sqare cutting was treat to eyes. What a batsman. And Kapil's pace. Even best of WI batsmen were uncomfortable before him. Sylvester Clark, at his best. Feel sorry for him, he was best of the WI lot. Cricket lovers missed him.
Gavaskar and vishwanath were India's backbone. Vishi's square cuts were world famous. That time it was observed that whenever vishwanathj hit 100, india has won the test. kapils 26 included 5 boundaries. that time i remember i was in 7 th standard we used to listen to a running commentary on transister. Excellent footage Jai. I remember Sunny was Sylvester Clarke's bunny in that series. Clarke was unplayable at times! Malcom Marshall made his debut as a 19 year old lad in that series. Bacchus's 250 was a gem in that series!
He is always man of crisis. I'm a fan of him. I bunked the class and go on hearing the radio commentary at RC college compound in 1969 when he made his test debut against Australia at Kanpur in the second innings.

I watched this test match live at the Chepauk! Fantastic atmosphere as usual. But those were the days. Have you ever seen anyone LISTENING to the running commentary on a transistor while watching the match live!!!
Thanks, this upload is a great historical document, good quality pictures too. Any more uploads from this series or V Pak 79-80 or V Aus 79-80 or Golden Jubilee Test 79-80 would be awesome.
These are those days, when most of the west indies players were with the contract of World series. So you see Clark, Phillipe and Holder as frontline bowlers.
I was in 8th grade when this series was going on and instead of going on the school trip I went and saw 4 days of Bengaluru test. Gavaskar got out the very first ball and many of them had not even settled down in their seats. People who missed this thought Vengsarkar was opening with Gaekwad and only after looking at the score board they realized India was already 1 wicket down. Marshal made the debut but still he was far from the terror he would later become. Clarke and Phillips did well in English county playing for Surrey and Essex
The present day's Indian batsmen should face such deadly bowlers without helmets.... Those days, Chennai pitch used to be bouncy.... None of the current Indian batsmen can play against such bowlers without helmet. Today's players are Bollywood class cricketers......

Typical GRV innings. He would be at his very best when chips were down and the track helpful to bowlers. In such conditions he didn't need any time to settle, middle the ball from the very beginning and make batting on bowlers friendly wickets look like a cakewalk.

Vijay Vishy was chairman of selection commitee for 5years ,I think from 96-2001.And yes he is a regular at KSCA and NCA for many years as humble as ever offering advice to youngsters.Sadly unlike Gavaskar ,Shastri and others who made it into public life on TV ,Vishy maintained a low profile after retirement from cricket and his job at SBI The bcci rewarded his services with a 5crore payout ,I think and he was also on the ICC committee as a match referee. He recently celebrated his 70th birthday hosted by Sunil Gavaskar ,his brother in law.
@@Oo-pl9zg The BCCI has always been apathetic to this batting great. There is not a single stand anywhere in this country named after him, when lesser mortals have been blessed with that honor. Moreover, they did not invite him for the 500th test celebration. So Vijay's peev is justified.
