I was extremely fortunate viewing vishys second test century against west indies captained by clive Lloyd. India won that match at Eden Garden, kolkata. Pataudi was captain. Vishy batted single handedly having new comer Karson Ghavri at other end. Great cricketer India had produced. He was only batsman in the team. I salute him for his greatness.
Not seen anyone play the square cuts and late cuts as well as Viswanath. He was an artist par excellence. Vishy gave us magical moments right from Green Park, Kanpur in 1969 until he hung his boots. Cannot forget the scene when Tony Greig carried Vishy like a baby. Every oppostion felt extremely fortunate watching his stroke play from close quarters while he was at the crease.
First ever cricket match I saw live in Chepauk, Vishwanath & Tiger were playing Tiger was caught at longleg by Tolchard... I still remeber. But from that day started watching the art of Viswanath...
Vishi Sir, your square cuts would always remain fresh. I at least haven't seen a player who could play that shot better than him. A simpleton, a true sportsman. You will always have a place at our heart.

Gavaskar and Vishwanath both were great batsman in Indian team. But unfortunately we didn’t have any other batsman like them therefore we won very less test matches in 1970s period

In 1970s, India won so many matches. We won in West Indies, in England, in Australia 2tests, against England in india, against Australia and west Indies in India. Against new Zealand in india and in new Zealand 1-1. So 70s was not so bad.

I feel ashamed to see him sharing stage with a fabulous selfless human and fun loving classic cricketer and genius.. Not somebody who forgets his humble background and acts untouchable.. I was witness of G Vishwanath first test match in Kanpur. He was out for a duck in first inning but in second inning he scored century plus. As much as I know , Vishwanath married to the sister of Sunny. The threesome SUUNY VISHU & BEDI were the new found heros of the match.
Gundappa Vishwanath was my favourite. He and Gavaskar faced the fearsome Westindiaan and Australian fast bowlers without helmets. Today's IPL rich cricketers cannot imagine how difficult it was
Pataudi to have played such a practical joke on a few of his fellow players is the cheapest prank ever one could imagine. What was there anything worthwhile Pataudi gained out of this incident to scare Viswanath of his life at that midnight hour in a forest. Not only Viswanath, even Pataudi himself would have had collapsed under a state of consternation if he were subjected to a similar practical joke played on him by somebody.
It was silly of the organizers t call in Amitabh n G vishwanath to a Marathi based prog because two spoke in it while two didn’t understand plus Sunny n Amitabh poked fun at the host. Sachin started in English but seeing Gavaskar speak in Marathi reverted to it .. everybody nowadays understand English what was t issue speaking in English?? How many can understand Marathi?
Gurudas Gurudas vishy is a very simple and good hearted man of a very few words! A pure gentleman unlike Gavaskar who is biased boastful and crude. Vishwanath recalled Bob Taylor in the jubilee test in 1980 when he was wrongly given caught behind by Kirmani off kapil dev by umpire Swaroop kishen whereas Gavaskar himself doesn’t walk out if out and the umpire fails to do so. Cannot compare Gold with aluminum.
