The Kerry Packer story about paying off the dealers mortgage is 100% true. When it happened, he had won $27.5 million that night, and gave the dealer a $300,000 tip, to pay off her mortgage, and take her 2 kids on a holiday to Disney Land. Happened because he found out her husband had bailed on her and left her with the kids and mortgage.
@@jaysantos536 yeah. And he made a $2.5 million donation to NSW Ambulance Service back in 1990, after he had his heart attack, in order for each Ambulance to be fitted out with a defibrillator. Hence why they are known as Packer Whackers.
I'm a table games dealer. He's right, $100 bill is like seeing a $5 bill. Money really has no value in a casino. You're separated from your money as soon as you buy chips. My professional advice: never game. Ever. It's quite sad seeing people lose thousands. Don't like it, but I need a paycheck
That money may be lost, but it goes to employees, the business, and those employees (yourself) and the business spend the money on other things, maybe buy a car or house from the person business who initially lost it, its all just a cycle.
Being a player is sort of a macho thing because the player tries to beat the house edge. However, if it was the players who had the edge, casinos would never try to be macho. Casinos wouldn't exist if the odds were with the players. Casinos basically say to themselves "Thank you suckers"
The thrill goes up in steps. When you start out, maybe winning twenty bucks is a thrill, you go out and eat and drink for free and feel great. Then, over time, twenty doesn't do it anymore. But a quick hundred dollar win gets the heart pounding. Then, over time, a hundred no longer does it. Then it's the 500 or thousand dollar bets that stir your emotions. If you still have money by then, or if you come into some money through a will, then the biggie will be the $5000 wager. And when you win one of those! Watch out. Now you're looking forward to placing that big ten thousand dollar bet (and winning, of course). Now, winning $20 won't even hold your attention.
@Awesome Liberal - Yeah, here's a tip, and it might save you big bucks over the years, as it has me: Quit playing Blackjack!! In Blackjack, I found, after 20 years of torture, you can have the winning hand and turn it into a losing hand. As in - you play last before the dealer, OR, you're alone at the table, just you and the dealer, and you find yourself looking at the typical hard 12 with the dealer having a face card showing. You hit and bust, only to see the dealer turn over his hole card, a deuce! So, you HAD the winning hand, but turned it into a losing hand. This cannot happen in Baccarat, where the outcome of all hands is determined the moment the cards are cut at the start of the shoe. About Craps: I was chicken shit in 1999 when I had close to forty grand on me in Atlantic City (stayed for 10 days at a cost of 30 grand) and had not one, but TWO great rolls at the Craps table, 41 rolls and 43 rolls - one at the Sands and one at the, I believe it was the Hilton back then, it changed names so many times I forget. Anyway, on each hot roll I made just under $700. I distinctly remember the dealer saying 'I may not know much, but I know a roll when I see one.' This was right after I had rolled 5 eights in a row. Somehow my brain was in 'protect the bankroll' mode and it never clicked in that I could have paid cash for a new house if I would have broken out some money and put it across the numbers. I like that you don't make 'prop' bets and will forgive you the occasional 'yo'. I usually will make a horn bet for the dealers when I'm ready to leave if and only if I've done well.
