My Mazda 5 was crunchy going into 2nd, would sometimes refuse to go into 5th at all (very annoying on the freeway) and would sometimes not go into reverse until I shifted into a few other forward gears. Based on recommendations in forums, I replaced my gear oil with this stuff and now I have no problems at all anymore shifting into 5th. Sometimes 2nd is still crunchy if I'm shifting very fast. Reverse I occasionally still have problems with but much less often. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to drain and fill at least twice to get most of the old oil out, which I did. There was definitely a noticeable difference between the 1st and 2nd drain and fill. Shifting in general now is like butter, much improved. The car had 160 thousand miles on it though so maybe it just needed it in general. The oil that came out was pretty dark.
I used this mt90 in my g5m trans in Ford Probe (Mazda). It shifted great, especially when cold, but may be too thin for protection. My 5th gear bearing started whining and my differential broke. Hence I may do a mix this time with mt90, and maybe some royal purple/synchromesh, all gl4. Great video. Thank you. 👍
It was time to change mine (speed3) and I recently tried syncromesh. Seems to be fine so far. My gears used to really "chunk" into place, especially 3rd. Now everything is much smoother.
Oh, here's one to try for a future video: use tire shine foam on the engine compartment plastics and the similar "black" plastic bits that the wing mirror is mounted on. I did mine three days ago, and so far the results are awesome, the plastics look factory fresh. The surface has been left a little "oily", but there's no visible cracking or structural integrity damage, so it seems to be all good. The reason I did it was that all the black plastic bits were looking blotchy off-gray more than anything else. The tire shine restored them to a pretty uniform black.
@@ColtonRichter I've now driven my car through both light and heavy rain as well as fog. No runs visible. The plastics are still black. You might want to try a different product or a lighter application, as well as giving it some time to "cure" in the sun after application. I just walled off the general area with a bit of cardboard and squirted a bit of the foam on, and then almost immediately wiped it with a gentle scrubbing motion.
@@peterjohnson9438 There's a great channel on TH-cam called Sweet Project Cars that does a lot of detailing work, among other things. I'm pretty sure they just rub ATF into plastics and help it soak in either with sunlight or a heat gun.
Finally you got one same as my grey 05 3s I thought in America they don't like this colour 😂. Have always this problem especially in winter you need to relax your drive during that time . Wish you the best 👍
Even though the manual says to use either, they say you should only use GL-4 because it doesn’t contain sulphur additives that will corrode the non steel components. They reckon GL-5 is meant for differentials and gears under extreme pressure.
@@lincolnhobartmiller shoot I just changed the drivers side half shaft- I topped it back up with almost 2 litres of gl-5 bc that’s all I could find and the manual stated either or. Wonder if I should worry about it or not
@@gabrieldignard3602hello again, l’m not a mechanic, but this information was told to me by my mazda dealership in here in Perth Australia. My car has the same 3rd gear issue. But now also the 5th gears beginning to do so. It's 285000km, it happens like 2 times a week. Tends to happen due to my clutch not being completely depressed due to my mat shifting under the pedal. But it works fine with every other gear so it shouldn't be causing such a fuss.
gotta make a tutorial on a coolant flush! Got quoted like $160 for one on my 07 mazda hatch and if i can save money by doing it myself i’m honestly down 🤣
this winter at -30 in Quebec my car was stuck in 1st gear I managed to change my oil for 75w90 syntec for a total of $65 in an oil shop where he works like a pro he showed me my old one oil no metal in it and it was slightly gray after the change the gears come in better when cold
Just bought a 2006 with 100k miles. Transmission fluid is brown. Based on the Carfax I cannot tell when it was changed last. Previous owner just said not to touch it and a family member says they never change theirs. Thoughts? It brown, no black and is shifting great.
Did you ever figure out what the problem was w/ 3rd?? My Mazdaspeed is doing the same and from reading the comments it looks like it’s somewhat common….
My 08 3 is having an issue where while driving it jolts and drops to 3rd and the AT and Engine light come on, until i turn off the car the max gear it'll shift to is 3rd, but after turning it off, all lights will go back off and it'll drive normally until it happens again, assuming it's a TCM issue but not sure if you've ran into it.
Haha the 3rd gear grind sucks I don’t have to deal with it now because the 3rd isn’t useable I was thinking about getting a new transmission but I also want a speed so the transmission will have to wait😂 id sell it but it’s a one owner car I bought from my parents so kinda wanna keep it also the car I learned to drive manual on😂

Until it rains, this method works great until water hits it and leaves streaks on the plastic and oily residue onto the paint
@@ColtonRichter damn, seems I need to go do spray bottle testing to see if my results are similar.

I actually think this color is super underrated!
U can use gl4 or gl5 straight from the manual

Ain`t no such thing as lifetime fluid lol

Lifetime fluid ain't a thing but that's to each of their own. I like to change mine, and people change it depending on their use as well
Most of the gears crunch in mine and I lost 3rd, it'll downshift sometimes but just pops out
Previous owner must've been learning in it or something
Did you ever figure out what the problem was w/ 3rd?? My Mazdaspeed is doing the same and from reading the comments it looks like it’s somewhat common….
Just bad synchros, common thing
When you put it in reverse without moving yet and it makes a squealing noise does that mean you need transmission fluid
It's sound like a Synchro that's slipping a bit! Their's oil for that. It's Synchromesh I think!
I swear we are on the same wave length. I was just talking about doing this last week.

No, I don't have any automatics but I know the TCM's overheat in their position and tend to fail.
I think i’m having tcm issue as well
Thanks for this! How much liter did you use to fill and what kind of oil did you use?
3 of those bottles.
Does this work for automatic and I also wanted to know if you flush it will you still get bubbles?

That's my situation with my other Mazda 3, one owner and bought from my parents and I can't let it go 😂
My 08 3s rough shifts when i put it in 3rd as well but has never gotten worse…. Mazda 3 things i guess
Ye old plastic fork transmissions haha
My 2006 mazda 3 2.3 does the exact same thing did you ever figure out why yours was doing that
Synchros are shot
Is this the same for automatic
Yes, except they take a whole lot more fluid.
Mine does it from first to second only sometimes same noise like yours
Synchro issue
How often should I change my manual transmission fluid on a 2010 3i>
A google search can help you out with that depending on how you use your car :)
