It's nice that Steve is reviewing classic old games, this one is a very underrated and often overlooked PS2 gem, by the looks of it.

Gaming industry in 2024……sell an incomplete game with the promise of an update to fix the shyte and a paid DLC with new tracks and cars.

It was actually a feature in TDU2 already. The idea was to let you look at the cars from a different angle in the showrooms. You could crouch or tiptoe depending on if you wanted to look in through the window or enjoy the engine bay in the rear.
Not strictly a necessary thing, but I don't see why not have it.

If the map was 10x larger I'd say the graphics are decent. 10 minutes to cross the map is a small map. The Crew had cross-map races that took 20-30 minutes.
It was probably developed for the Playstation 4 in mind.. they milk those old Consoles like crazy. Games like Hogwarts Legacy also had to run on those old Consoles. And with them using such old Hardware we never gonna get new and better Graphics and Visuals. I cant say it enough but Consoles are killing the Gaming market. Thats why 11 year Old Games like GTA V still looks good compared to Modern Games from 2024

@@HansGruberX1 gta V didnt look good even when it came out... Idk in which universe were you playing gta 5. Games from that period looked miles better than GTA 5 for example: Most Wanted 2012, Horizon 2 , DriveClub , The Crew hell even PGR 4 from 2007...

I used to love the original Test Drive Unlimited. It was pretty much the reason I bought an Xbox 360. I even bought my first steering wheel for that console too. Used to spend hours just cruising round Hawaii listening to tunes. Good times. Sadly it doesn't look like this game has progressed at all from that game. If anything, it's gone backwards!

Driving on wheel is actually very good on this. Also the car sounds are some of the I've heard in a game. It still has that old test drive explore progression to, to add to the fun drive. Im on pc and use wheel and maxed out the graphics are actually pretty decent.

As did I. My favorite missions were the "delivery" missions where you got a massive bonus for driving the car to the destination & taking absolutely no damage. It was always fun to see how fast you could push it while never making a mistake. I barely even remember races in that game. It was largely the side content, roaming, and getting into places you weren't supposed to be able to get to that was so much fun

They didn't include any of what made TDU so special. The big vibrant map like Hawaii. Full of traffic and places to explore, The police getting annoyed, the radio stations, the random encounters, having to find the showrooms by exploring, the random challenges. The fun unique open world driving experience packed with joy whittled down by modern gaming to this. What a missed opportunity. We were all waiting ready to relive those good times. Instead this bland effort is all we get, feels like it needed a shit ton more time. imagine a Remastered TDU1. Would sell like hot cakes.

I just don't understand how you could possibly play this when something like Horizon exists. Like I know it's not the best racing game out there but compared to this it's miles better
I mean I bet everyone who plays this already plays Horizon. I was really hoping it would be like the older TDUs and put Horizon in its place by having a more immersive experience and better driving missions but alas.
Imagine making the game always on when NOBODY asked for it, and releasing it with endless connection issues.

The TDUSC devs not only keeping but also defending always online DRM of this game was nothing short of complete buffoonery and a massive red flag.
As a TDU 1 and 2 fan, I'm really glad I didn't waste my money on this.
They literally dealt with this same exact issue with the older games but were actually smart enough to make a offline story mode in case the online went wrong because of their inexperienced with a mmorpg and fast forward history repeats itself but this time they didn’t give it a offline storyline at all

A bit of polish, an offline mode, and it might actually be quite fun!
Rework the shaders a bit, add real estate, fix the economy, do some rebalancing on the cars - and REMOVE THE ALWAYS ONLINE REQUIREMENT.
I might pick it up on sale, but not without a promise for an EoL offline update.

I'm so pissed about where gaming has gone. Test Drive Unlimited's ambition hasn't been, and looks like it will never be, matched.
I honestly just want TDU 2, like, the exact game. They could copy and paste the menus, the graphics, Idgaf. Just give me the "simulator light" physics they said they were going for back in the day, an updated roster of vehicles, and smooth the roads. Boom. Greatest racing game of all time right there.
When Alain said that he wasn't happy with the corporate influence from the publishers I knew this game was set to be a disaster.
"Nobody will buy a racing game like that" is what the corporate execs just keep hammering in. You know what I think? I think that they're a bunch of vindictive jerks and I'm honestly starting to think that they don't _want_ a game like the old TDU's to exist. Because I know for a fact that every developer that's had their hands on the franchise was more than capable of delivering what the community asked for. So where is the problem? It's the corporate influence.

0:46 maybe the stand on tip toes option is to simulate how you would see the roof of a vehicle in real life. Same with the crouch button. Makes no sense to do either of these things in a racing game but in that showroom you can simulate seeing a car that way.

This Game started development before the PS5 was released.. im pretty sure it was developed for the PS4 in mind. That's why it looks that shit.. it was made for 11 Year old Hardware which was already outdated the day the Console launched. Milk that PS4... thats why 11 Year old Games like GTA V still looks good compared to modern Games from 2024

Always only is a no go. The only live service racing games we need are sim racing games like iRacing, not arcade escapades like this.
To be honest, I like the dynamic of certain objects slowing you down if you hit them to make some corner cutting less acceptable in certain occasions. Also the idea of finding better lines adds another dynamic for an arcade driving game but maybe hedges and fences could be less resistant because they are literally everywhere.

Test Drive Unlimited: How long before you go insane playing this game.
Used to be a fan of TDU but I don't think TDU:SC will last that long, especially with AC Evo coming out soon.
I wouldn't expect the sales of an open world arcade racer to be impacted by the release of a hardcore sim racer. There's some customer overlap, but the games are intended to offer very different experiences.

Basically this is Midnight Club: Solar Crown. Where AI teleports like the 2000s street racers who pump nitrous into their cars. Should have been another Midnight Club game all and all.
It’s a good game at heart I agree but needs more, good players are going to have compensation. We never got our 20 tier pass skip ever
End game at 60 is harsh, 100 race wins in 36 different cars. 3600 wins.
Frm gives 1million a day or 1.5 on clan event days with it. Offroad is fun. Long crown jewel hyper car race is good.
The game has low frames in the city and still Disconnects, ranked is useless for now. It’ll hopefully get there and have a playlist in a hub instead, can’t see it working at each race site otherwise
Car variety is good but need more, can’t believe they’ve put some cars prices up massively last update like the R8

This looks like one of those games they throw in the giant tub in a Walmart with a $10 price on it. Mixed in with the direct to DVD movies and all the assorted junk that customers didn't feel like bringing back to the shelf after they decide not to buy it.
tdu sc looks really good sometimes like a ps4/ps5 game but, 95% of the time the game looks like a mobile game for some reason
