  • In this video you can join us in our journey as we install our triangulated 4 link air suspension kit onto our 1942 Chevy Rat Rod. First of all, we tacked on all of our upper and lower bag mounts and link mounts. We also set our pinion angle to point at the tail end of our transmission. Then we marked the travel of our upper links onto the side of the frame plating while the frame was at ride height and also whilst the frame was on the ground, adjusting the pinion angle as we went along. After that, we measured from the top of the differential to the point marked on the frame where the two travels intersected, and welded our receiving upper link mounts onto the frame. Then, we went back and fully welded in all of our link and bag mounts.
This channel is inspired by some of my favorite youtubers: Hardcore Fab, Vice Grip Garage, Fab Rats, Matts Offroad Recovery, Piece and Grease, Rat Rod Bob Builds, Uncle Tony's Garage, Bad Chad, Make It Kustom, and WelderUp. The channels have given me a ton of cool knowledge about all sorts of fabrication info on things such as: Welding, engine building, custom chassis fabrication, custom air suspension design, custom interior design, on board air systems, chopping tops and other custom body work, custom seat designing, rat rod building, and some video editing and production.

Fine piece of carrying on! Good to see the younger generation carry the torch.

Thanks! I appreciate your feedback, as I've watched many of your videos, and you are inspirational 👍

@@coloradogrown562 I can tell you watched me build my 47 Ford Rat Rod or maybe it was the 31 Chevy ... regardless, glad someone was paying attention. Never give up even if you have to do it twice to make it nice ... as our buddy at Rat Rods For Africa would say.

When I have time to start building, this is the suspension setup that I want to go with but it's always freaked me out worrying about where to place them so that it all works correctly. This is the first video that actually seems to make it look fairly easyish. At least it gives me a base train of thought to work with 👍👍👍

There's a ton of different ways to set up a link suspension! It's not too hard if you can find the information. I've found books to be a better source than videos. A parallel 4 link is easy to set up and pre-made kits are cheap! Just habe to run a pan hard bar to keep the axle in place. We went with this triangulated set up to eliminate the pan hard bar to leave more room for the fuel tank in the rear.

@@manfordman9112 yeah I would like to avoid a panhard bar.

@@RacelifeCoyeah I get it. Adds more room and less moving parts. I actually learned a lot about link suspensions from a dirt track racing book. Good luck on your build and if you have any questions we will do our best to help you with them!

Nicely done Fellas! Thanks I learned something. I went with a ladder bar and a pan hard bar. Going to follow along for this one. 👍

See you at Ratstock - looks like you will have a sweet build! I’ve been trying to track down other builders!

Interesting how the upper bars get aligned to keep pinion angle. What kit did you buy for the bags and brackets? Going to look so good as a dually 👍

The link and bag kit was a universal triangulated 4 link kit we found on eBay for about 150 to 170 bucks. The bags that came with the kit were a little small so we switched them out for bigger bags. We also posted a short showing the 4 link finished with the duelly tires

Do not tighten the jam nuts! The rear can’t articulate with the non rotating bars. The ends have to screw in and out for the rear to sway.

Wait until it's done. Also post a link to your builds so we can all see what we should be striving for.
