1942 Chevy Rat Rod Bedsides are finally revealed!
มุมมอง 137หลายเดือนก่อน
Last summer, we made the unfortunate mistake of putting most of the rat rod panels on the north side of the shop, leading them to be completely encased in snow throughout the whole winter. But at long last, the snow has melted, and you guys can finally see them.

Drilling square outlet holes with a hand drill?

A lil hiccup but no biggy. I like this idea lots . Thanks again for showing 👍👍
Yep! A new nut fixed it. Thanks for watching!
I think a lightweight motor oil would be better than the Lucas. I haven't done it but I don't see how it wouldn't splash like crazy at 1/3 to 1/2 full.
The thought was a thicker oil won't seep through the piston seals as easily but its definitely an experiment!
@@manfordman9112 As far as the blow by is concerned I would think the thinner oil would get wiped away easier. The thinnest diesel oil with the most zinc would be my choice or maybe the pag oil that is for the compressor. Anyway, cool video. Thanks for sharing it.
This is good info. Theoretically this could be used as a vacuum pump too I think? I saw this and immediately thought of my air bags that I want to do on my car, Thanks.
Mmm, I don't see why that wouldn't work! If you had a vacuum tank hooked up to the suction side with a check valve in line I'm sure it would. They do make great compressors though. The 709 sandens pump a little more air than this 508 will. We just went with the 508 because the mounting was similar to the Ford ac compressor that was on the engine already.
Gonna look awesome when it's finished.
Thanks I hope it does!
What chain is that? Thickness ? For what equipment is that chain from?
No idea. Found it in the scrap pile at work! I know they carry it at tractor supply though.
One more step closer to Rat Stock!
For sure! We still have a bit to go but it'll come along. Thanks for commenting! Also your c50 is coming along nicely!
Great info here on the Dana70. Coming along great. Thanks for posting the update.👍👍
Cool, thanks for the ride⭐️
Big dog truck!
That's some good welding man. I'm a welder myself. I used to repair Exxon gasoline tankers for a living. And welding for leaks is a whole different animal. It's not easy. Job well done. I hope the frame tank works.
Thanks! It is very different from regular welding for sure, being as it's a pressurized vessel. You think it's good and then you put a couple psi in it and you'll find leaks. Definitely takes some patience and work!
Fine piece of carrying on! Good to see the younger generation carry the torch.
Thanks! I appreciate your feedback, as I've watched many of your videos, and you are inspirational 👍
@@coloradogrown562 I can tell you watched me build my 47 Ford Rat Rod or maybe it was the 31 Chevy ... regardless, glad someone was paying attention. Never give up even if you have to do it twice to make it nice ... as our buddy at Rat Rods For Africa would say.
Pretty wild for sure how that race welded itself on to the shaft.
AWESOME 👍
Hey look it's another crap rod.
Wait until it's done. Also post a link to your builds so we can all see what we should be striving for.
@@manfordman9112 I second the motion! Show us how it should be done!
What do you drive?
When I have time to start building, this is the suspension setup that I want to go with but it's always freaked me out worrying about where to place them so that it all works correctly. This is the first video that actually seems to make it look fairly easyish. At least it gives me a base train of thought to work with 👍👍👍
There's a ton of different ways to set up a link suspension! It's not too hard if you can find the information. I've found books to be a better source than videos. A parallel 4 link is easy to set up and pre-made kits are cheap! Just habe to run a pan hard bar to keep the axle in place. We went with this triangulated set up to eliminate the pan hard bar to leave more room for the fuel tank in the rear.
@@manfordman9112 yeah I would like to avoid a panhard bar.
@@RacelifeCoyeah I get it. Adds more room and less moving parts. I actually learned a lot about link suspensions from a dirt track racing book. Good luck on your build and if you have any questions we will do our best to help you with them!
Do not tighten the jam nuts! The rear can’t articulate with the non rotating bars. The ends have to screw in and out for the rear to sway.
i still can't understand how you can build something like that for 5k ? ? ? . do parts that you already have count against the budget?
They do. It's the perceived value to the judges. All of this was actually collected for this build though. The most expensive thing on the whole truck is the wilwood brake master cylinder. It's all just old not highly sought after parts. Dana 70, drum brakes all the way around, 351m with an fmx transmission that was free. It was actually built for WAY less than $5,000.
Safety items don't go against your budget however. Tires, brakes, steering, bolts, seat belts, etc. So with that out of the equation this truck was actually built for less than $1500.
"Promo sm" ✅
You can actually see it on the camera reflection
more doing and less talking about what you did. jest saying.
I work on a Air Force Base, and they would write on equipment that they were maintaining the dates that they would oil and grease them. Yep a very awesome truck you have.
Good progress, I love the tugboat horn. That was a great find. Pop-up window in the front is my favorite.
NICE!
No ventilation or fan?
No fan but there is a vent pipe from the tank through the roof, as well as 3 inch vents in the walls to allow airflow through the inside. Thanks for watching!
You need to add some kind of water supply or that’s coming out very good, put it on the roof and it might help keep it cool
We generally just take a 5 gallon bucket of fresh water with us unless there is a water source on the job site! We thought about a fresh water tank but we had limited room. Thanks for watching!
Dave matthews poopgate 2 in the works 🤣 in all seriousness tho this is a great build
Thanks!
I thhink that is brilliant. Put it in your wifes name rent it from her claim it on your taxes 😊
Spoken like a true business owner lol
That is artwork, friend. Reminds me of a well pump house that my dad and grandfather built for us when we moved back into the country out in Oklahoma when I was a teenager. Much fancier tho, in that trailer with the plumbing and all. But that’s artwork you got there for sure.
Thanks! We tried to make it as nice as possible
It needs some fold down stairs. I need that to tow behind my truck just pull over when needed.
Ya it's pretty convenient and useful to have on a trailer. It is a bit too heavy though so it's not amazing to pull around
Oh and it does have stairs that go with it. We are thinking about doing a fold down set up for them, just haven't gotten around to it yet. It was one of those finished at midnight projects and went to the job site the next morning and basically lived at job sites.
Thats cool asf bruh
Thanks!
Love it
Thanks!
Right on! Nice repair.
Thanks 👍
"Dump it wherever you want" lol. I'd at least suggest "the shit pit"
😂In a perfectly legal manner of course! We actually have a dump hose for an RV hookup as well and we can just dump it right in the septic tank at job sites.
based
Seems legit, but how bad does it smell? Do you use any chemicals in the holding tanks?
It's no worse than any other porta potty. About every 2 weeks we dump the upper tank into the lower tank when it starts to get bad, but we also do use the tank tablets for RVs each time we dump it and add fresh water. If you can park it in the shade somewhere it stays good even longer!
Starting to take shape, looking good sir
Looking pretty cool😁😁
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback
I love log houses😊😊
Cool subscribed..cheers
Nice!
Thanks!
Door cleaned up nice... looking forward to seeing the arms welded up. Leaning towards that concept on the next truck build over here.
Thanks! Glad this video helped 👍 Also, another cool rat rod channel is Hardcore Fab. We got inspiration from that channel for the frame of the truck
Right on! Some kool fab work on the front end. 👍
Interesting to see the suspension. Can’t wait to see what you do for the chop😎
