A release by Ship to Shore PhonoCo. Originally released in Japan, this would be the first time the Mother 2 soundtrack receives an international release. A 2xLP release, with a gatefold. Released in four different colors: black, red/black swirl, blue/yellow split, and hot spring pink
Note that much like the CD release, many of the tracks on this release are small medleys, and the track titles do not actually reflect the song playing. I will list the tracklist as is, with the proper song titles underneath **

I just bought a copy on vinyl for only $40. In great condition! My only complaint is that they are too short.
@davidmorales5718 if you get a decent mixer you can extend them.
totally skips over "your name please" I understand it is also left off the original CD release, but it'd be cool to get like a 4x LP box set of ALL the music, or nearly all of it. Remove those lame remixes at the end and... extend the play time on each side. Anyway, one of the best video game soundtracks of the nineties for sure.
Sad, because "Your name please" is actually my favorite song from the game. Hell, I would even buy a 7" of just that.
Extending the play time would require larger records, or more records, maybe a 8x LP box set?

I feel like treating this as a full OST album isn't doing it justice, it's more like picking and choosing songs off the soundtrack that would flow well into each other to make a concept album in the universe of Earthbound. I really dig it tbh.
It's really strange that it doesn't start with Attract Mode (after the prologue music, of course). I can't imagine starting Mother 2 or even just its soundtrack without it

@@vgmvinyl So weird, my nephew is a hardcore Death Grips fan and when I let him borrow Earthbound he beat it in threed days. Afterward, he declared it a masterpiece. Lol!
Appreciate the post as usual. I just got my copy of this in the mail sometime last week (also the standard black vinyl) and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I was actually really close to buying the black/red swirl variant back when it first went up for pre-order and I'm so glad I decided it against it, since those had a print defect. EarthBound/Mother 2 quite literally is my favorite game of all time, so this was a must-own for me. I never liked how an official full soundtrack was never put out, and it also kind of sucks that many of the tracks on here fade out way too early, but I've been familiar with this Japanese release for years and it's preserved just how it's always been, so I knew exactly what I was getting. Some of my favorites are the three remix/medleys found on the last side.
I preordered mine/bought my copy of the first MOTHER vinyl at the same time...a little after Christmas. By the time I even knew these existed there was only the option to get the black or the Hot Spring Pink color. Just figured I'd go with black but as time went on I kinda wanted the pink color. STSPhono never replied back to me to change my order so I got stuck with black. Not complaining either way. Shame to hear there was a defect in the one variant though
I'm guilty to admit but I've never played Earthbound. I've emulated it a long time ago but never got into it. This soundtrack has reaaaaally interested me into getting a copy, as a lot of the tracks have been stuck in my head as of late. Unfortunately I'm a purist and a collector so the only copy I'd like to get is a complete in box SNES copy. Shame they're so expensive. I wouldn't mind a cartridge-only copy but it's hard to justify spending like $300 for one. Eventually though. I may just emulate it if I have to on my Wii. It'll at least *look* like the real thing and it'll be on Nintendo hardware. If I play my cards right I can definitely see myself getting a copy possibly next year. Setting money aside each paycheck doesn't sound horrible but it's also so hard to save up when so many VGM vinyl releases come out 😅

Yeah, I have a complete, mint copy for SNES. Needless to say, it is the highlight of my game collection, haha. The "strategy guide" it comes with is definitely worth reading/looking through. It's very unique and more of a companion guide to the universe with lots of humor. As much as I love the game, I'm not going to lie and say it's for everyone. I just fell in love with its off-beat humor mixed with genuinely touching and occasionally creepy moments.
+WannaTradePants I'd be lying if I wasn't jealous ;( I get that though, I probably would appreciate the humor quite a bit. The only possible reason I would ever be turned off from the game would be because it's an RPG. I always have such a hard time getting into them but once I do I usually get hooked. The more I talk about it, the more I want to play so some time in the year once I get some other games out of the way of my backlog I'm definitely gonna sit down and play this for once
TheReginaldProgram It's a really great game, mostly in the sense that it's extremely memorable. As an RPG it doesn't bring a whole lot new to the table which I think is why people think others like it, but it's really everything else besides the gameplay. The style, color, weird 90's humor, and the music. It's not a game that you have a blast playing, more so a game that you remember forever after playing it.
Aww man, the Threed theme of spooks isn't on here. But the non spooky Threed is, and I like it more
how long has this been out man? Im actually just getting into records and considering earthbound is one of my favorite games ever I seriously have to get this.
I got the email that the album shipped out February 26th 2016, so basically it's been out since March of this year

+Austin Collins luckily I found this when you were still able to preorder it. No problem, this is exactly why I started uploading these videos in the first place... So people that missed out and things like that get the experience of listening to the records and to see them spin
If I were you I'd bite the bullet and try to get a copy as soon as you can. It really is a cool thing to own. The album never came factory sealed either, it was just shipped not-sealed in a sleeve, so you could pretty much buy any copy and know you're getting it exactly how it was shipped
I will say some good has come of me finding out about this late. I just found out that someone is releasing a record of the undertale soundtrack so im going to pre order that asap.
Thanks for this! Big fan of what Ship to Shore is putting out, and I have my Mother and Mother 2 copies next to me, but can't play them until I head back to college this fall. This will tide me over.

just Sony actually; as I understand it Nintendo holds the rights to some tracks but Sony owns the rights to most, hence some music being left out of the vinyl release

The shipping to Canada alone comes to $23CAD. So almost $60US ($80CAD) for the whole thing. Hopefully a copy will come up locally one day!

The last record I bought overseas was the Streets of Rage 2 one, which was another 2xLP set like this. It cost around $51.49 USD which according to Google translates to $67.51 CAD. 50 bucks isn't exactly cheap but it's definitely not as much as the price you'd be paying for this. It only cost $46 USD for this copy of MOTHER 2
They need like an official international distributor that buys stock from Shiptoshore so that you could buy it locally without having to pay so much for it. I love these releases and it's always a shame when people miss out on them!

Ripping from CD to vinyl is awful; they should've just ripped from the .SFM's from the cartridge.

TheReginaldProgram Sure does. Pre ordered it since I missed out on the first pressing. Kinda wish they had it in standard black just so it really has an authentic look to it but the splatter looks very nice.
When I preordered Mother 1 + 2, black was pretty much my only option, so therefore I chose black. Color is cool once in a while on vinyls, and I tend to get every "limited edition" version of a vinyl that comes out, but there's no denying that the classic black color looks nice. I agree that it gives it sort of an authentic look. Never thought about that before but you're right

It was called Threek in Japan. Nintendo thought people would assume "Threek" ment "Three K's," or KKK. So, they changed it to Threes.
