It's always great to find mentors like you online. there is always something new to learn. i see in this video the alcoholic beverages where most are DER except 'das bier'. Danke Dir!
Serbo-Croatian To find out the gender all you have to do is look at the ending of a noun You could use nominative singular for that If the noun ends in A then it's feminine Ova Žena (Die Frau) Ova Flaša (Die Flasche) Ova Špigla (Der Spiegel) Usw. If it ends in O and E (less common) it's neuter Ovo Ogledalo (mirror) Ovo Ludilo (madness) Ovo Zanimanje (occupation) Ovo Dijete (kid) Ovo Glupiranje (this folling around) Usw. For masculine it ends with everything else Ovaj Čovjek (man) Ovaj Stol (table) Ovaj Kompjuter (computer) Usw.
Thank you for making this,sir-- loads of useful info..I'm learning Deutsch (A1)mostly thru u-tube videos, Google Translate etc..when i used GT for 'der Kater' at 5.09, it came up witb ' the hangover' ...but no problem with 'die Katz'..I've yet to come across 'der Kater' actually..it's always 'der Kat'.
Yes. The German word "Kater" is also the word for hangover. I tried Google Translate for "male cat" and it gave "Kater" as the answer. In my dictionary the only use of the word "Kat" in German that I can find is a shortened version of "Katalysator" for a catalytic converter.
@@tessfra7695 Weird that GT is different for different people. I am curious. Are you translating English to German or some other language? Side note: I checked to see if the Dutch translation was different, because people often use GT with Dutch instead of Deutsch (German) and end up with obviously Dutch answers. The Dutch version of male cat is "mannelijke kat"
Great lessons here! I enjoy watching your lessons. Would you accept a suggestion to improve your already excellent accent? The ending “e” on words like “Blume” and “Junge” is pronounced as an “eh” sound, and not an “uh.” “Bloo..meh” not “bloo…muh”
Let me add an interssting exception for the "ung" always feminine rule, I learned it at university. The origin of a coordinate system is called "der Ursprung".
It isn't a suffix in that word. It is simply a part of the verb "springen" in the Perfekt tense "gesprungen" added to a prefix "Ur-" (basically meaning primal) and turned into the noun Ursprung (primal jump, the jumping off point of something, origin). I get where you are coming from, however, as learners don't usually know/care about this detail.
As a beginner, just memorize the genders as you learn new nouns. There will be time for learning rules like these when you have enough data to see the patterns.
I don't understand. Which images are woke? I am generally pretty careful with the images I choose and I can't see any in here that would be classified as "woke". Could you clarify?
@@MrLAntrim in laymen terms. Woke = Liberal/too progressive, I wouldn't worry too much about this comment. Woke is one of many words people like to throw at stuff they don't like.

You'll be busy for a while. I think there are over 800 videos on this channel.

I did the reverse as well sir, asking GT what 'male cat' was in German, & it gave ' mànnliche Katze'.

Danke, Herr Antrim. I noticed that most fruits and veggies are feminine in German. Is that generally true?
It is more likely that they happen to end with E and most of those are feminine.

Woke images - meaning brown people in some of the pictures? Get out of here with that hate, there is no place for that here.

I am pretty sure I know what they meant by this comment. I just wanted them to put their prejudice in writing.
