What a great utility video, I love it. If you don't understand your own notes, what good are they? Also love the point about questions - be confident in your confusion/curiosity, noone should get upset at you for reflecting on what you're hearing. If any teacher ever does, they're an idiot (but few ever do). Just to add: The internet is full of people sharing their scrapbooks and organizers. No need to fully fall down the rabbit hole (not that helpful either), but if you're not very good at structuring notes, it's easier than ever to get inspiration, provided you really reflect on why you would want to sort things a certain way. Edit: Aww, the end note, you're a treasure.
For a lot of my classes (in college) I used a small dedicated audio recorder to record what the teacher was saying. I can’t really write(fast enough and it hurts my hand) and listen/comprehend, so whatever the teacher wrote on the board I just took a photo with my phone. That way I could fully immerse myself in what the teacher was saying instead of worrying about keeping up with writing down whatever is being said or written. Then afterwards, in the comfort of my home/library , I could write down my notes.
Just a word of warning, that's often a actionable offence without written permission. This is because you're "stealing" course content. Most professors will also view recording them without their consent as disrespectful. Personally I think you should avoid this system unless you have a disability, as it's not at all applicable to the listening, learning, and notetaking skills most will have to use beyond the lecture hall.
I recently implemented this technique in my first ever German course. It's nice so far. What really got me was the point about the info hitting your brain 7times before your head hits the pillow.
Very good points , i also had another trick, after we had a Grammer lesson I always searched and watched related lessons of there day or many times that week here during my B1 Deutsch course (reflexiv Verbs , connectors , ) , during my A1 and A2 i didn't need to take any notes at all in the class because I saw the everything you need to know in A1 and A2 level video here here and I wrote many pages of notes form that videos Thanks again for the wonderful videos You are a wonderful person 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Omg man, thanks for the last part of the video. I am doing a PhD in Germany and sometimes I am really overwhelmed by all my tasks during he day, besides my Deutsch Kurs. Nice job and thank you :-)
Sehr gut Herr Antrim 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻” Du bist der Gute und Du bist der Schöne”. Is this a quote from Goethe?😊. I like the two notebook system and i prefer free page notebooks like a three ring binder, and one notebook for verb conjugation, one for Wortschatz and one for general notes and grammar so you are not trying to go through 100 pages looking for the conjugation of “ sein”. I find that German note taking can be done in a word or Excel or Word, but math and chemistry require paper note taking with all the formulas and diagrams😊😊😊😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
"no headphone" well sir how i am supposed to hear and listen to you whithout them 🤣 kidding of course The Processing information part is where i realize that i struggle a lot. i don't know if my autism is the cause of that but taking notes while the person is talking is really hard as i feel like everyone is speaking way too fast for me, i tried many times (tried again with this video) but i don't know why it seems that as soon as i can summarize it and start to write my notes of it the teacher moved on and by the time i finished writting i missed a lot... basically unless i take litteral notes of what the teacher said (which is often incomplete informations or confusing) i can't keep up with the flow of information. On top of that the amount of time something said can trigger a tsunami of thoughts that i cannot suppress is insane, which then makes it impossible to even write down what the teacher says. Even youtube videos that should take 10mins to watch, take notes and get over with takes on average 30 to 50minutes "complete" and make sure i got the most important things down. For instance, i paused the video 4 to 5 times to write this comment. If anyone with similar struggles managed to learn how to take note effectively i would love to hear your tips ... i feel like such a failure not being able to do what seem so easy for others. on that note, the 2 notebook system is definitely something i will do. I usually take notes in obsidian but i add too many details and thoughts to them, im currently learning japanese which frankly is overwhelming but fun so i bought a notebook and tried to take notes in it at first and quickly realized that it was too messy, unorganized, lots of informations were missing etc so from now i'll take my notes from obsidian and process them in my notebook instead so i can add as much context etc in obsidian and then reduce it to what is really necessary afterward or smth.
Multitasking is a myth. You can only really do one thing at a time. If you listen (properly), you can't write. If you are writing, you can't listen. This is why TH-cam is superior to in-person lessons. You can pause me. Listen for 30 seconds to a minute. Pause. Write some notes about what was said. Allow yourself time to process the information. Then continue the video. A 10 minute video should take you about an hour, if you are using my process. Since you are watching a video, you can also take time to try what you learned on your own. By practicing what you learn you will solidify the information even more.
