Aww jeez, clearly an improvement in technique amongst population of discus throwers from the last "Discus Throw-Top Ten Discus Throws All Time". Everyone swings the right leg and pivots. Far cry from "Crazy Train" to get your f**k**g game face on. Well made though, good information. Thanks.

Im sorry but there is no way Jurgen Schult is the best. Sure he threw 74.08 which is while but he is from east germany. Regardless, he only threw over 70 meters 2 times which I find unaccptable from a world record holder. He did not dominate in his era and the medals he won were only 66 - 69 meters. Mykolas Alekna who btw broke the world record with a throw of 74.35 has more throws over 70 meters than Jurgen Schult and he is 21. Gerd Kanter, Ceh, Both Aleknas, Stahl and Malachowski have all had like 5+ throws over 70 meters. Now, im not trying to discredit Jurgen Schult, he was excellent technique and is very decorated, but he is very overated and is by no means the GOAT.

Schult isn't the GOAT, but he's up there.
Greatness is less about absolute distances than it is about competitive record, wins in the big ones. With changes is our understanding of training, etc, that's the fairest way to compare to top throwers - were they winning against the best of their time?
That's why Oerter has to be number 1, and probably Riedel no.2 - unless we include Elkasovic, who has a good claim to that spot.

@@DHTCF Shouldn't Kanter and both Alekna's be up there though? Al Oerter was absolutely dominant but his best was like 65 meters, though this was back in the 60's and he has done some wild stuff like throwing with injuries and winninf 4 olympic medals. He still shouldn't be first even thoug he is like top 10 easy. Kanter's best was in high winds but he has 2 throws over 72m and Virgilijus has like 15 70+ meter throws. Even though Oerter's dominance was legendary. There is no way is he 1st though, that belongs to Virgilijus Alekna as of now although Mykolas Alekna and Ceh may have a pretty good shot of beating him should they countinue to improve and avoid injuries. Lars Riedel is an underrated thrower as I think 71 meters with a non reverse be arguabaly equally imprssive as throwing 73 and 74. I'm pretty sure Jurgen Schult never beat Lars Riedel in a major comp after 1991 which further proves that while Schult is a very impressive thrower, he is 100% not the goat.
