Solid list. As a South African, I approve. I also think a lot of casual rugby viewers won`t get why PSDT is no.1 because he doesn`t really have many "highlights" moments, but as a Springbok and Stormers supporter, the guy is a machine, he consistently brings a level of performance that is just insane. He is almost always in the top 3 of performers in his team.
It’s complicated, it’s because when people think of "the best Rugby player in the World" it’s more like Ardie Savea or Cheslin Kolbe because of their technique and skill. PSDT doesn’t have the best technique or skill he’s just a hard worker who was deployed very well by Rassie, without Rassie he would still work just as hard but without him he wouldn’t have played as well because of him being restricted, when you have as many forwards around him that are amazing then you can pick the best one and let them control most of their game. If not, the. Good ones are left doing all the work. That’s partly why people don’t see why he is. I think he played the best last year tho and deserves it
Waht makes PTSD so good is his work load and he plays his role of a loose fowared to perfection I am a kiwi but I have mad respect for PTSD as a player and we know good players when we see them
I think most decent rugby fans would understand why a player like Pieter Steph is number one. He may not have the highlights reel of Faf, Beauden, Ardie, Antoine or Cheslin but he is the kind of player who is so influential in the grittier, tough to see moments. Almost nothing or no one gets past this guy and he will put everything on the line to defend as well as being a great attacking forward too. He is a huge part of the reason that England didnt score a single try against us in the RWC final.
Pieter-Steph Du Toit was monumental for the springboks. Apart from the pure talent, strength work rate and pace he appears to have an excellent rugby IQ. You can't coach that.
Menzi Mngadi yes, he did incredibly well in the finals. Du toit was one of the reasons England didn't score by smashing every player that gets the ball from the ruck, regardless if they had passed it or not. Totally agree with your statement there.
My opinion is that Wyn Jones is a good player but nowhere near the top 10, I would have pick Etzebeth if I had to choose a 2nd row. I don't think either that Tom Curry is (yet) that good, and Vakatawa has been one of the best players in Europe these last past months ! Very good work, nice editing, thanks !
I am a new Zealander and I agree on pieter steph du toit , he might not do the biggest hits but he makes the tackles that count , he may not make highlight play runs but hes always there to do the dirty work when his teammates do , he reminds me of the great Richie McCaw , always working hard behind the scenes, it's good to see him get noticed for it and I'm not surprised he's number 1 on this list
PSDT and Cheslin Kolbe are probably the two best players in the world for completely opposite reasons. Kolbe brings the flash, the excitement, the elusive finishing. PSDT is the indomitable workhorse that hits everything that dares move within a 20m radius and makes his presence felt through sheer grunt, workrate and passion. There are only two players in world rugby that can tackle a flying Cheslin Kolbe: Kolbe and PSDT. SA is blessed to have both these players and dynamite dynamo Faf de Klerk at the same time Would've placed multiple time player of the year Beauden Barret above Itoje, Curry and AWJ. They're all great players, sure, but Barret has pretty much single handedly, consistently ended teams for fun. He is a menace if you're lining up against him, more so than the other mentioned players Itoje and AWJ do probably deserve to be on this list, and maybe it's the selection of clips, but I feel like none of what was showed shows them as the best locks in the world. Great players, sure, but consider back when Big Vic Matfield was the best lock in the world. He showed the linking skills shown by both locks in this video and even had a kicking game second probably only to John Eales. But nobody's lineout was safe from the cerebral assassin that was Victor Matfield. If you want to show a lock tearing up open play with linking ability then by all means, show a RG Snyman, a Lood de Jager or a Brodie Retallick. But the locks are the engine room of the pack for a reason. They have to be physical, upfront, enforcers that put fear into the opposition in open play, bank their own set piece and wreck that of the opposition and that wasn't shown here
Cheslin Kolbe Pure speed, OUTSTANDING FOOTWORK!! isn't scared to put his body on the line during a ruck or tackle and shows great sportsmenship. Overall an amazing athlete and that's coming from a kiwi (New Zealander)

I know this is a kind of weird one cus the Irish management are very unfair to players that don’t play for Leinster or Munster, but if you watch European and league matches John Cooney has been phenomenal to watch this year. I understand why he’s not in this video as he hasn’t even played much international, but he is undoubtedly the best scrum half in Ireland and even Europe along with Dupont who is also excellent. Just a notable mention for a great player who misses out because Ireland aren’t open minded in picking their players.
Can't say I've been watching a lot of French rubgy but he seems to have been popping off very recently. Then again, the list is for 2020... Maybe if he made this video in a few weeks time he would include Ntamack

Best 9 in the world! I think, subject to staying fit, will prove to be the best ever. Look at when NZ beat France a couple of years ago - almost carried France to victory on his own - was the best match I have seen a scrum half play EVER.....
@@nikolakozhuharov1042 I know Cheslin from school days and personally. He played scrumhalf and flyhalf most of his life but he is primarily a wing and plays international rugby at wing and a wing has minimum input in a game. Yes he is brilliant probably best wing in the world but in rugby you can not say a wing is the best player in the world or close to it cause they honestly do very little.
@@danesmith8913 I get your point but if the guy has the competence, it doesn't matter that coaches use him in a less engaged role and it doesn't make him a lesser player. On the other hand, how can we agree on who is the best player in a team game with so many different roles in it, there's no way to measure that.
It's when a player transcends their position and racks up stats that's just seen as unreal. Look at Richie McCaw not the biggest or strongest but his fitness and ability over the ball and all his other contributions around the park he exceeded what was defined in his role... ARDIE Savea for example gives u nearly as much tackles as Peter Steph and as much turn overs as Peter Steph but then also gives u the speed of a wing and is everywhere on the park as if there is 2 of him... His got the strength and leg drive of a center... U would think his a wing, flank, center all in one... It's difficult for a wing cause his to far from the action
My only comment is some of the more of the forwards should make the list too. This is such a difference to NRL that there are so many little contests that need to be won and influence the final result that every individual player could be scored in terms of being the best in their position. RSA had the best and second best front-row in the world in 2019 and each set played 40 min per match; 1st - Beast, Bongi and Malherbe, 2nd - Koch, Marx and Kitchoff. You could not distinguish between who was the better front row. The locks, RG Snyman, Etzebeth, Lood and Mostert; only Itoje could compete in that RSA combination. With the 1st and 2nd best tight five on the planet it's no wonder RSA pulverised Eng in the final. Those that point to the RSA v WAL game it was only through the mistakes of the RSA backs that WAL stayed in the game. I was screaming at the big screen when Faf caught that high ball and tossed it into touch! And Thormeulen... did you see how many opposition players he concussed by running through them? Not to mention Damian De Allende being one of the best centres in the tournament! He came good when it counted. I respect all those on the list but to miss Thor, De Allende, Marx, Bongi and Kitchoff in a year where they won the World Cup and Rugby Championship!!! Come on!
I'm a kiwi and yea we have some good players but when comes down to it we are more of a well oiled machine when it comes to rugby but if was just player talent we dont have all the best players our players just do there role to the best of there ability. I fully agree about Farrell tho he is just a dirty player and a little moning shit who has a tantrum when he dosent get his way
Think Josh Adams deserves a spot in this. Lethal finisher, grand slam winner and top try scorer in world cup all within his first year of international rugby
Pieter-Steph du Toit certainly deserves to be the Player of the Year. I can think of a few test matches that the Boks would have lost, had it not been for him. The late Doc Craven always said: if you want to rate a player, ask yourself: would you rather have him in your team or play against him?
@@Ricardo.08 You know it's true tho, Kolbe is the better all around player, he is faster and amazing under the high ball and can create alot of chances and finish amazingly, and his step is far beyond that of PSTD
It is important to note that as a Scottish fan, there is absolutely 0 bias, but despite how much I hate him - Owen Farrell probably should have got on this list (and I’d probably stick him top 3)
I'd like to see him playing 10 with two proper centres outside him... He's solid, great tackler, great kicker but lacks 0,5% to make him great! That 0,5% is ultimate pace that the great players in his position have, Barrett for one, but also a small element of mentality...
If you don't come from an English speaking country it's harder to be taken seriously. Medias and specialized press are dominated by english speakers hence less attention on the player is often given. It's also an unconcious bias most of the time.
Pieter-Steph Du Toit comes from a small town 40km from where I live. I've been on their beautiful farm and he makes me feel proud. Cheslin Kolbe also makes me very proud. SA Rugby yeah :)
Ardie Savea was the best player on the planet in 2019, just because he was not part of a team that won the world cup does not change that. He monstered Pieter Steph when they played each other and was the only player who played well against England. It is nonsensical that just cause a team goes further at the one tournament that they win individual awards for the best player. But yes Rugby is becoming as Ridiculous as Football where a player like Luka Modric wins player of the year just for his world cup performance.
@@thespeaker6322 I did not mean he monstered him physically. I meant as far as their influence on the games they played in head to head Ardie was by far the better player on the field.
Tom E I would have put Vakatawa on the list too, and Dupont higher. Its a pity that France blew their chance at winning the 6 Nations or Dupont would be in my top 5 this year, Vakatawa at around no.8.
Tom E Agreed, though its going to be literally who scores the most points on the final day. England can easily put 50 past Italy so they will be massive favorites. France I think will probably have to absolutely smash Ireland and play the best they have ever played against them, so yes they have a chance but its tiny.
As Rassie said: 'don't get into 50 fights and win 40, get into 120 fights and win 100'. Trust me, PTSD lives those words in every game he plays, moreso I would say, than Manu (although take nothing away from him - he's a great player!)
@@Tom-vu1wr well that's ur opinion so good for you✌ for me he was the reason we won the WC. If you watch he cause a mistake 7 times in the match, 3 times leading to a penalty that was kicked over. But he has his days where his attitude is too much as well

It's difficult for a wing cause his to far from the action
it should rank by position
Come on!
Finally someone doesn’t fill a top ten list with kiwis and doesn’t put Owen Farrell at the top thanks so much 🙏🏿
What can you say, when you winning 90% of your games then you will get a top ten of Kiwi's.
South Africa represent
Pieter-Steph du Toit certainly deserves to be the Player of the Year. I can think of a few test matches that the Boks would have lost, had it not been for him. The late Doc Craven always said: if you want to rate a player, ask yourself: would you rather have him in your team or play against him?
Pollard coming from an England fan is the best
No
Could u do one for this year?
I like how Cheslin beats almost beats everyone
Tbh he is better than Peter steph
@@IsanG08 yeah no
@@Ricardo.08 You know it's true tho, Kolbe is the better all around player, he is faster and amazing under the high ball and can create alot of chances and finish amazingly, and his step is far beyond that of PSTD
@@IsanG08 how to you expect a man ptsd size to have a great step? 😂
@@prudeuncle Jonah Lomu was bigger and had a good step and he was a forward at the start of his career
I think you might be the best rugby tributer on youtube...
Rugbybeast also do great tributes.
Alun wyn 🙌
Jones 5th and Dupont 10th 😂😂😂 What a joke
HahAha
Ye true lol
If you don't come from an English speaking country it's harder to be taken seriously. Medias and specialized press are dominated by english speakers hence less attention on the player is often given. It's also an unconcious bias most of the time.
Nice to see dupont!
Song at 3:42?
lol my top 10 (noone cares I know):
1. Cheslin Kolbe
2. Handre Pollard
3. Duane Vermeulen
4. Pieter Steph Du Toit
5. Bryan Habana
6. Barret
7. Makizole Mapimpi
8. Faf De Klerk
9. Stuart Hogg
10. Dupont
😂😂😂joke of a list
Im looking for Johnny May and im not even English
Get the fuck out
Im a Welsh supporter , What Johnny May did against France was brilliant .
Pieter Barkhuizen you’re a twat if you think he should’nt be there
Pieter Barkhuizen ur acc gay stg. Underhill instead of awj aswell. Missing Farrell too
HJ Vlogs yep completely agree
Insane editing 🔥☝🏼
Etzebeth???
Better than itoje
Shut up
@@BB-zr6wr why

Best current lock left out. Agreed
Great picks, always 7, Josh Kronfeld and Richie McCaw forever.
Alun wyn jones should not have been there where is etzebeth
Your so anti Welsh , Declerk shouldn't be on the list

Not sure all in right order
Think I’d drop faf for Vermeulen too
Radradra #1
Ardie Sarvea. 👍👍👍
Dupont should be No.1 because of how well he does for his size and his decision making making is on another level
Faf de klerk and Kolbe are also small...
Not nearly enough South Africans !
Some of the Drum n Bass tracks are on point... Oh yes and A Jones is over-hyped. Could easily be replaced by literally anyone that plays rugby.
Umderhil were is he
True top ten: 1.PSDT 2.BBarrett 3.Kolbe 4.Savea 5.Curry 6.Itoje 7.Faf DK 8.Pollard 9.Radradra 10.Etzebeth
Virimi Vakatawa 🥇💪
Pal, Ardie Savea is very very strong but not stronger than PSDT. 100% surely.
@@thespeaker6322 I did not mean he monstered him physically. I meant as far as their influence on the games they played in head to head Ardie was by far the better player on the field.
Semi’s hit was beyond massive
Where are Owen Farrell, Agustín Creevy, Sonny Bill "offload" Williams, Camille Lopez, Eben Etzebeth, Makazole Mapimpi, Marika Koroibete, Emiliano Boffelli, Matías Kremer, Jordie Barrett?
quarentine?
this is a top 10 list
Merci
If vakatawa isn't here...
And he wasn't. Definitely deserved to be here
Tom E I would have put Vakatawa on the list too, and Dupont higher. Its a pity that France blew their chance at winning the 6 Nations or Dupont would be in my top 5 this year, Vakatawa at around no.8.
Depends how tolouse and racing do and France could still win
Tom E Agreed, though its going to be literally who scores the most points on the final day. England can easily put 50 past Italy so they will be massive favorites. France I think will probably have to absolutely smash Ireland and play the best they have ever played against them, so yes they have a chance but its tiny.
@@malcolmbruce8177 fair but at this rate England v italy will be a 0-0 draw
Probably the best player in Europe this Season if de table only the Season je is in the top 3
Pieter Steph is a living legend of the game .
Goddamn beauden is fast!
Kolbe faster
I love how half the list is Sprinboks.Love to see so many fellow South africans
Everyone forgetting what manu Tuilagi did to the number one twice in the same game😂
As Rassie said: 'don't get into 50 fights and win 40, get into 120 fights and win 100'. Trust me, PTSD lives those words in every game he plays, moreso I would say, than Manu (although take nothing away from him - he's a great player!)
And did he back down once?
From a Saffa kiwi I would say top 3 are Kolbe, Barrett, Steph Du Toit. In that order.
Big mistake with faf only at 7
He should be at least 4
Such a good list
where is eben etzebeth
Its a tight list for the top 10, but to miss off owen farell and johnny may altogether is poor...
Faf and Beudie are higher for me
Faf shouldn't be there
@@Tom-vu1wr well that's ur opinion so good for you✌ for me he was the reason we won the WC. If you watch he cause a mistake 7 times in the match, 3 times leading to a penalty that was kicked over. But he has his days where his attitude is too much as well
