Sir....I have 2 questions... 1)why the acid proton attacks on ketone group of your initial reagent..Why not on alcohol group so that it can form water molecule and leave easily.(3:00 min). 2) why the two hydroxyl groups on the same carbon atom react together and forms ketone (5:00min.)

In the very first step of the reaction, why did the acid attacked on the carbonyl oxygen rather than alcoholic oxygen???
PRAVEEN SHARMA bcoz due to resonance carbonyl carbon have max e density while lp of O of OH involved in resonance
But alcoholic oxygen have two electron pairs also... And they can attack to the acid to form OH2+ which is further a good leaving group???
