Thank u so much. Im 16 years old living with my diabetic dad. He is not that good with technology, so he asked for my help. I had no idea what to do, but your video helped us both so so much. Thank you:)

Most pharmacists would not stick a needle in their arm for an unboxing video. Thank you for your service! You made it easy to understand how to use Freestyle Libre kit, appreciate it!
Careful to examine the sensor when you remove it. Abbott has confirmed that there have been multiple instances where the needle has detached and stayed in the patient. This happened to me without my initial knowledge. With zero help from Abbot, I had to go through 3 doctors in order to get exploratory surgery to remove the needle. It too over 4 months of being in pain. Abbott would not help cover costs or even call back. I wish I could post the beautiful pictures of the blood and incision for everybody to see.
I have used this product for four months and for four months The needle has fallen out for three and for the fourth month the needle stuck in my arm now for months that means eight tries to no avail I even taped it on my arm but when I work and I flex my muscle thing pops out this thing is a piece of crap I have notified the manufacture to no avail but I will get their attention eventually I’m gonna take them down through every media news station whatever I can possibly do yelp everybody this product does not belong on the market until it’s fixed properly this is a generic piece of junk you don’t put it on your muscle so when you move your arm a needle pops out and the last two cases the needle didn’t pop out the stick and popped out and the needle stayed in and I even taped it on my arm still popped off is this a joke that they’re playing on me well I don’t like jokes playing on me I get angry and now I’m angry I have nothing to test my diabetes and I’m pissed. I am going to have to get a hold of yelp or the news media etc. etc. and till this problem is rectified and I am reimbursed for eight needles so that comes out to $120 dollars. I have done exactly what they’ve told me to do and even put tape on my arm to scan the first one lasted a week the second one lasted two days it goes on and on and on and I’m tired of complaining I don’t like it but I don’t like being taken for a fool when you put something in your muscle and you flex your muscle while you’re working it’s gonna pop out common sense.
One thing😄 After you put the sensor on, you go to the home screen, tap check glucose, scan the sensor then it will calibrate and be ready in 60 minutes. It will count down at the top of the screen. Thank you for this video! It helped me a lot🤗
FINALLY! :) A video that explains what exactly is left stuck in your arm! A filament that monitors your levels sounds a lot better than an actual needle in your flesh 24/7. I've watched almost a dozen videos now and they were all very unhelpful including the manufacturer of this product! Thanks for the in-depth explanation here.
Nik Galego I like that it’s not actually a needle but a flexible filament. Of course who would want a needle stuck on your arm for 14 days. Well, I heard somewhere that the goal of the freestyle libre is to launch a needle- less Glucose monitoring system.

After checking my glucose readings by sticking my fingers for 18 years, I started the Freestyle Libre today. I viewed this tutorial several times before taking the plunge. Not to crazy about needles. I was nervous of course, but it was quick and it didn't hurt. It was so easy. I will post later on my readings. Great tutorial!!!!!

Thank you for this demonstration. I am one of two people in my area that are testing this and once I heard how it works I was excited to get on the program. Again, thank you for sharing this info with us viewers! Good stuff.

I don't know if either of you fine people has the beetus but if not, and you did this to show diabetics how to use it, thank you so much. That was awesome guys. Much love and regards from Nova Scotia.
I had a low reading on a few occasion and the FreeStyle 14-day meter was showing normal readings. Quickly I checked it with another Accu check meter and fixed the low sugar issue. I called the customer service support, as usual, the call went to a different country. They kept me on phone for 1/2 hour took all my info and was unable to resolve the simple problem. This product is not cheap in the US for this kind of service and results. I would say if you are using this product then keep a different backup meter for yourself.
Thank you!! I’m a patient and when I picked up these items I was overwhelmed. That is, until I found this video. Thank you!!! Also, I waited to see if hurt to put the sensor on the arm especially after seeing the needle. This put me at ease! Thanks!!
I have used a few. Honestly there is almost zero pain. Gently tap your fingernail on your skin... it's that level of "pain", if you can even call that pain.
My husband has type one and we are learning thanks so much for helping us understand what (upon first inspection) seemed very complicated! Thanks for demystifying this for us!
Thank you for this video. i just development type 1 at 30 years old and this has been quite the change for me. I've had the libre sitting on my counter, unopened for weeks, because I've been too nervous to try it. This video helped me and I just put it on my arm after completing the video. thanks again
I hear ya! I’ve just been diagnosed and am 46. This video made the whole process much easier and less intimidating. I have found that it doesn’t hurt at all. So much better than the finger pricking!
Really scared & Nervous when I am applying for the first time ... Especially When I see the Needle ,but when I see this video came to know that , needle is just for placement of sensor .. Thank you for made me relaxed .
Thanks for the informative video. I am about to start using Freestyle Libre from today. Got the prescription from my endocrinologist and got it filled from my CVS pharma. Will be applying the patch today. Since I don't have a compatible iphone need to use the reader. In US, I pay $75 for a month supply of sensor (2 units of 14day libre) and $68 for the reader. This is the price after insurance pay.
My insurance does not cover this . I used the discount card they give away at CVS and doctor office. I paid $70 for 2 units at CVS . The reader was $35 , but I declined it and use the Android app.
I have been using freestyle ibre for last one and half year and now I am using Blucon nightrider with it which converts this sensor to active CGM and I can see every 5 minute update of my readings on mobile screen. It shows me how my diet, exercise, medicine affects my sugars
I just got mine recently and have been waiting to receive different adhesives I've ordered to come in, for fear of it falling off before the sensor expires. Great video! I especially like the the application technique he used! I practiced the technique he used and it feels a lot more natural to me than the other way that is recommended by Freestyle.
This is my 1st day with the freestyle libre 14 day. A couple of things to watch out for: charge the reader first. Installing the sensor, the stick material that holds the sensor, holds to your skin very. Where it's not sticky is holding the sensor to the sticky stuff that's attached to your skin. Two ways to do that, cold-ban wrap or a bandaide like patch that covers the 14 day sensor (works even through hot showers). If the reading is way out of range, you need some FREESTYLE NEO PRECISION TEST STRIPS costs about $15.00 from pharmacy. Regular freestyle lite strips will not work. I hope this will move you beyond the gotcha stage.
I was just asking if you can wear this device while showering or bathing. So you do need to cover this device on your arm with something then? What is a cold-ban wrap? Where can you buy it? Also, is this covered by Medicare and authorized for use by the FDA? Thanks in advance for answering my questions.
Abbott has been great about replacing sensors that I either knocked off, or didn't scan. I've only had one that didn't scan after the 60min wait when starting a new sensor.
I especially like Michael's technique. Easier to stick on the arm and super easy to scan for glucose results, especially during dialysis when my one arm has to remain 100% immobile. Unfortunately the two consecutive weeks I used his technique, the sensor always fell off before the one week was up. Maybe somehow the arm location is getting rubbed against my body? I don't know. It's a great idea but I just wanted to tell you about my experience. For whomever his technique works for - hats off. I wish I could say the same.
This video was absolutely amazing! Thank you SO much for taking the time and making the effort! Also thanks for being brave enough to actually apply the sensor for us!
This video is very helpful, thank you! I am a pediatric dietitian and work with Type 1's. I've recommended this video to patients and families and have received great feedback :)
Thank you so much. I got my strips last night and it doesn’t seem so intimidating after this video. The mobile app seems easy to use It’s expensive but it’s worth it if I can get my sugar under control.Keep up the good work.
I’m terrified of needles (have a real phobia) so imagine my horror getting diabetes and having to use things that require. This was a God send of a video. Thank you so much for helping me to help myself.
Hey I have a question, is having this on uncomfortable since the needle is always in you? I wanted to buy it but I was just worried it would be uncomfortable, also how bad are the scars that are left?
Speaking from one that is diabetic and battling it just like you are ! The 14 day libre system has change my life my A1 C went from 11+ to 6.4 Reading! What a game changer absolutely not answer to your question you do not feel it in fact I have not noticed a difference in the side arm versus the back of arm placement of disc! I started out with the reader and finally upgraded my phone to the appOh Em Gee he is all I can say need to use the app! Have a good day
Thank you for your video. However, according to the FreeStyle Libre video, user has to activate the new sensor before you can measure for the first time by pressing the Start New Sensor on the sensor screen and place the reader close to the sensor to activate it. This was not mentioned on your video.
Very nice! I am wearing my libre on my arm with blucon device and monitoring my glucose readings with Ambrosia Linkblucon app, this app is really very helpful as it gives hi and low alerts and when my readings out of range.
I diagnosed with type 2 about one year ago then my doctor suggested me to use Freestyle Libre sensor and Ambrosia Blucon device for check glucose values on phone as well as watch. Also, they follow my glucose readings with Ambrosia followblucon app. Reallp helpful products for me.
Great video, however, I recently tried this and if I had given myself insulin based on these numbers I would have passed out or at times not given myself enough. Numbers vary so much compared to finger pricks. It’s a great thing if numbers were in line. Occasionally they were close but most times not.
Well, my son is using wireless Omni pod pump with Freestyle Test Trips! Hoping that Freestyle Libre can combine with Omni pod pump as 2 in 1 which will be Miracle !
Husband discovered libre recently, excellent method for cgc, no more pricks, the skin colored covers help also would reccomend Libre to any diabetic, worth the efforts!
Wow, I never ever noticed that bout the needle, I gonna check that every time that I replace the sensor , the abbot people never mention too me bout that, thanks for the information!!
Just received our kit (meant for my 80 year old mother) and wanted to see your part 2 video of this series - where can I find it? I looked at your channel and unable to see it. Loved the video - much easier to watch rather than read all the booklets that come with the package!
Lia Varela - Hi Lia - we ended up not using it as when I watched videos on TH-cam from people that use it, it’s just too much for my mother ... she’s old school and very fearful and not tech savvy at all so I couldn’t put her through it ... good luck with your process ...
Just got the system in the mail.. for my mom. excellent tutorial! I was reading the instructions and it’s so tiny I said there has to be a TH-cam. Thanks again
I hate the Libre II. It is 40 mg high. Tech support said it can take up to 24 hours for it to display accurate readings. Also, if you didn’t know, the strip reader on the receiver is simply a glucose reader, it does not calibrate it. There are several other cons but these are the primary ones.
I've been a T1D for 28 years and this was the biggest waste of money and time for me. I hear that it works well for some people but I had 3 faulty sensors (out of 4) and the delayed readings were not easy to work with. Really nice video though 👍🏼
its more for type 1's and it works great if you know how to use it and are aware of its limitations-all cgm's have a lag time therefore you are always behind with the reading from whole blood. also, when your blood sugars are changing rapidly it will be off! the trick is for diabetics to stick to a low carb diet and use much less insulin but, since the ADA diet allows 240 grams of carb daily its no wonder blood sugars are uncontrollable-once you commit to that low carb diet the libre will work great.
I've used a cgms for 11 years with my dh the type 1 diabetic with hypoglycemic unawareness. The cgms isn't always accurate. If you have no awareness you are going low till you are barely conscious and very confused, a cgms is great but you are supposed to test to confirm that cgms low reading.. I've never used the Libre, but I think I read if your Libre reading is 3.9, you are supposed to test to confirm you are low. @@heypharmacist you get out of a lot of testing. I used a pump alone with my husband for 6 years and it's very frustrating to test and find he's normal. LOL! But you do have to test to confirm lows and highs before administering a correction bolus with your pump. Your video is very helpful for those who want to see how you apply the Libre sensor.
Hey Pharmacist! I'm a type one and a practising pharmacist in BC. I started using this system three weeks ago. From my point of view, this thing is a game changer. Being able to determine BS on the fly and see a trend on the screen is a huge advantage. A few comments/notes. Remember to let the site to dry fully after swabbing otherwise some transient stinging will occur when applying/inserting a sensor. Be careful towelling off after a shower. Don't want to drag a towel across the sensor and irritate the site. Pat the site to dry. Keep the old applicator housing. Easy/secure way to safely dispose of the used sensor. The adhesive will accumulate clothing lint. Either position it higher on the back of the arm or live with the "dirty" ring around the sensor. Expect some initial discomfort after applying/removing the sensor. Yes. Make sure the site is hair free. Removing a sensor and ripping hairs out is no fun, The adhesive on these things is tenacious. Airport security screening... I'll let you know in a couple of weeks after a Canada-UK-US-Canada Trip. Buy an extra reader to have on hand in case you drop/break/lose one while travelling. Keep the old standby monitor, strips and lancets with you... just in case.
I have started using Blucon nightrider with freestyle libre sensor to monitor and manage my glucose level. even my husband can track my readings on his phone from anywhere. I dont need a seperate reader as my blucon can also help me activate sensor
Good video, thank you but a quick correction. I installed the sensor and waited an hour, then scanned it at which point it said "sensor ready at 2:46 PM" (it was 1:46 PM current time). So the steps should be to install the sensor, scan with the phone or reader, wait an hour and then it will be ready for use.
Was the follow-up video to this one ever made? I don't see it in the list of videos. Hope to hear more about this device and it's practical application to diabetes management.
Can you tell me how a Canadian (In British Columbia) get started on the free trial of the Freestyle Libre. I've contacted the doctor, the pharmacist and the Freestyle Libre Canada office and I'm getting sent around in circles. I need to know exactly how to get the trial kit so I can get started.
Apparently it seems very easy, but not quite, we have already changed 4 sensors before the deadline, because they are not measuring the medications correctly, always giving a huge difference to the measurement made with the blade. The only support we've been given is sensor replacement nothing more than that.
Thank you for the demonstration! I just got the freestyle Libre 2 and I connected it with my phone instead for the device. I’m glad the needle doesn’t stay in the arm. I was worried about that. Very easy to use after watching the video. Quick question… in 2 weeks when I take it off… is there a specific way to do so?
I've used the freestyle libre for approximately a year. To pull my sensors off, I just do it like taking off a bandaid. Grab the disc from one side and pull it off.
Very informative! Have you tried Blucon Nightrider also with the Libre sensor? I'm a T1 diabetic and have been using it for 3 years, would be great if you review that :)
Keep in mind your A1C is a cumulation of 3 months worth of glucose levels. Red blood cells “lifetime” is only 3 months, so when blood is drawn for your A1C levels they see how much glocose has been on those red blood cells over a 3 month period. Hope that helps.
I have this unit, but sometimes the finger stick and the scan test may not match. It is best to get some adhesive patches or an arm strap to may the sensor more secure.
The reason why finger sticks and scans do not match sometimes is that the Libre sensor takes the readings from interstitial flud (not from blood). The insterstitial fluid readings are approx 10 mins delayed. Btw, even if you test with two different glucometers you will not get the exact same number. You need to consider the margin of error that each testing device has.
1. Is there a follow-up video to this? You mentioned that you were going to make one, and there is quite a bit more information that could be very useful. I was curious to see what the first reading was going to be, and was very interested when you said that it received it. But you didn't mention what the value was. 2. We just did strips on my father, who has been using strips for some time. His readings were 90mg/dL, which is in the normal range. Minutes later the reading on the FreeStyle Libre was 60mg/dL. Do you know why those would be so different? Thank you.
O ya ...also amazon has a nice light arm band designed to hold the sensor on more snuggly while say jogging working out or dont want it to rub on clothing for fear of it pulling off
Do you have any videos on what phones are compatible with the reader ? I have seen many tutorials on how to apply the sensor but no one ever talks about compatible phones or really goes into how the different parts of the reader works other than how to scan .
Thank You for your information, had mine a few weeks, looked at your video, installed it today. Thank you for clearing things up. HAPPY NEW YEAR, AND MANY MANY BLESSINGS.
Hit a muscle on the first install bleeding really bad...i did it where your associate put his it must be on a flabby part of the arm i had to to pull off the sensor to stop the bleeding which stops and voids the sensor once its off no matter if 14 days is up abbott said it breaks internally if you take it off and must install a new one they sent me a coupon for a new one which was cool also my kit came with a sealed thumbnail drive tutorial in the kit to watch on my computer. Also amazon is full of accesories for the libre like clear waterproof patches for working ,shower or if you dont want it to get wet they also have nice protective cases and belt clipons
Hello..youve done a very kind presentation easy to understand and follow.. Its my firstime to see that meter,,,is it available here in my country Philippines? Thank you
You still have to prick finger for accuracy, prior to administering insulin; especially in newly diagnosed diabetes and children. Cover with special adhesive tape when bathing & showering, and if swimming only stay in water 30 minutes approximately with this in place. We are very lucky in the UK - no actual payment is required We love our NHS

I'm so glad to hear that!!
So do I, I hate needles😢😢😢.
I really appreciate this video and intend to recommend it to my patients. It answers a lot of the questions we get asked as providers.
I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you for your feedback.
Just diagnosed and applied while watching your demo. Thank you so much it was excellent and very helpful!
Hey I have a question, is having this on uncomfortable since the needle is always in you? I wanted to buy it but I was just worried it would be uncomfortable, also how bad are the scars that are left?
It doesnt hurt and u never feel it
Speaking from one that is diabetic and battling it just like you are ! Have a good day
@@bayoubuttlips starting on mine soon hope my a1c comes down!
Occasionally they were close but most times not.
only one simple to add on but unfortunately missed is Voice Assist Talking Function
Had to put it on my mom. Super comprehensive video. Thorough and easy to follow
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video..I was extremely scared until I saw that it didn’t hurt you. It was so easy!
Well, my son is using wireless Omni pod pump with Freestyle Test Trips! Hoping that Freestyle Libre can combine with Omni pod pump as 2 in 1 which will be Miracle !
I just received mine in the mail yesterday, Iam happy I found this video, it explained a lot, thank you.
Thank you very much for the demonstration, you made it really clear. Kudos for putting it on yourselves!
Watched to see how this works. Thank you for this demo.
Husband discovered libre recently, excellent method for cgc, no more pricks, the skin colored covers help also
would reccomend Libre to any diabetic, worth the efforts!
hi ! i just got a libre today :) so is it okay to shower with it on? does your husband cover his?
Cool vid!! Clear and easy to understand demo
Farid Ali Big honour coming from you! Thanks Farid
Great Video. precise and to the point.
Wow, I never ever noticed that bout the needle, I gonna check that every time that I replace the sensor , the abbot people never mention too me bout that, thanks for the information!!
Thanks for easy and quick demonstration.
I was little bit confused about sensor but you made my job very easy. You are the best
Hi I'm from wellness forever chemist if you required freestyle libre sensor we have it best offer
Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you so much for your kind information, its help us alot . Very productive information.
I am no pharmacist, but I appreciate the unboxing and tutorial..... very helpful, thank you so much!
Thank you for your kind words!
So easy to follow and great intro Saleema!!👍🏼👍🏼❤️💝💕
My Wife use the Freestile Libre 2 Thank You for this video & Thanks to who invent this Machine.
Just received our kit (meant for my 80 year old mother) and wanted to see your part 2 video of this series - where can I find it? I looked at your channel and unable to see it. Loved the video - much easier to watch rather than read all the booklets that come with the package!
What type does you mother have!? Does it work great.!? I’m looking for something for my mother in-law
You're welcome! Thank you for the positive feedback
I've heard that with other type 1's... I normally recommend only for type 2 diabetics. Thanks for sharing!
@@heypharmacist I use it with NightRider for last 12 months and never had any issues.
its more for type 1's and it works great if you know how to use it and are aware of its limitations-all cgm's have a lag time therefore you are always behind with the reading from whole blood. also, when your blood sugars are changing rapidly it will be off! the trick is for diabetics to stick to a low carb diet and use much less insulin but, since the ADA diet allows 240 grams of carb daily its no wonder blood sugars are uncontrollable-once you commit to that low carb diet the libre will work great.
@@dinkster1729 thank you, I'm glad the visuals were useful! Thanks for your comments
Any update on how airport scanning went with sensor?
@@erikipf The metal detector was no problem... no bells or flashing lights. Never got anywhere near a full body scanner...
That's what I came for. I am looking for the follow-up video to this.
Thx for the tutorial really clear and easy to understand
I use Freestyle Libre pro sensor with Ambrosia Blucon, Also, my new blucon can now activate the libre sensor without reader or libre app.
Hi, can I activate Libre1 with Blucon Nightrider?
Right when I got to the part I really wanted to see, applying the sensor, the video speeded up and raced to the end. It did that over and over.
Have you tried the libre2? Some people say it works a lot better but big difference in price. Was curious to hear your thoughts ?
Thanks a lot for this very clear and absolutely amazing video. It helped me lot to set it up properly.
Happy to read that!
Yup! Exactly what milkshakemuncher said!
Very informative! Have you tried Blucon Nightrider also with the Libre sensor? I'm a T1 diabetic and have been using it for 3 years, would be great if you review that :)
target range for mine seems stuck with mg/dl- actual blood glucose number and not a1c number
Keep in mind your A1C is a cumulation of 3 months worth of glucose levels. Red blood cells “lifetime” is only 3 months, so when blood is drawn for your A1C levels they see how much glocose has been on those red blood cells over a 3 month period. Hope that helps.
I am interested but need to know 1) accuracy , 2) how many days does one patch run ideally for, 3) what is the cost of a new patch.
Please inform us more about the needle. Does it stay in the arm as long as the device it attached to the arm? How far into the arm does the needle go?
Just got mine today, thank you for this👏
A quick educational tool for pharmacists. I really do like it!! Keep up!!
Thanks so much!
Well done, and extremely informative. Thank you.
I like your way, you are making it very simple, THANK YOU!!!
thank you for this video! I just got my first free libre today and it really helped me.
hey pharmacist! i was wondering when you'd come back with a new video haha. this was a good one! thanks for the demo!
microelephant 1 Hehe thanks! Yup I'm back!
very nice ...great demo, just one question how much are the inserts or the pins...thanks
I have this unit, but sometimes the finger stick and the scan test may not match. It is best to get some adhesive patches or an arm strap to
may the sensor more secure.
Awesome explanation!! Thank you so much 😊
Thank you, Carol!
Love this video, i am getting this in the mail shortly. Very informative
Thank you and good luck!
My boyfriend has been using accuchek mobile but may be getting this soon! Hell still have the other one for just incase
Let us know what he thinks if he does!
Thank you from a retired, diabetic pharmacist.
Thank you.
Very helpful video as I was somewhat nervous, Thank you
O ya ...also amazon has a nice light arm band designed to hold the sensor on more snuggly while say jogging working out or dont want it to rub on clothing for fear of it pulling off
This Still Pierced the Skin so it does require Blood.
Further what is the Cost for the re-fills strips?
Do you have any videos on what phones are compatible with the reader ? I have seen many tutorials on how to apply the sensor but no one ever talks about compatible phones or really goes into how the different parts of the reader works other than how to scan .
Thank You for your information, had mine a few weeks, looked at your video, installed it today. Thank you for clearing things up. HAPPY NEW YEAR, AND MANY MANY BLESSINGS.
That's so nice to hear that it was helpful for you!!
Thank you so much for this information!! So informative and useful!!
thank you for the video. I was wondering does the device alert you if the blood glucose low or high.
The main question, does it stick and hold if a person is working in an area that they sweat and sweat does run down the arm.
In my experience, yes they do still stick when sweaty, also in the shower
I cant find this product in USA stores. I can't find it even online on Amazon.
Can someone help me and tell me how to order this online or buy it ?
Petar Stosic I fill my prescriptions and get my Freestyle Libre at CVS pharmacy. You can get it there with a dr’s prescription
In Mexico we bought it at Costco today
I think Walgreens have freestyle libre but they will require you for a prescription.
In the USA you need a prescription for the sensor
Why does everything need a prescription, trying to get this for my mom .. 😔
Wow this was awesome ! Im New here definitely guna subscribe! CHEERS!
Thank you!
Hello..youve done a very kind presentation easy to understand and follow..
Its my firstime to see that meter,,,is it available here in my country Philippines? Thank you
This was tally helpful and easy. Thank you for this tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
You still have to prick finger for accuracy, prior to administering insulin; especially in newly diagnosed diabetes and children.
Cover with special adhesive tape when bathing & showering, and if swimming only stay in water 30 minutes approximately with this in place.
We are very lucky in the UK - no actual payment is required
We love our NHS
How does this work? You buy the kit and then just sensors after that? It's $120 here but I think that's a one off to get the meter as well.
