Welcome back Mark - I hope your family are well and all matters are resolved or improving.
Getting through it. Thanks for the kind wishes
Good to hear Mark
This is great. Would love some more of these with JP
Glad you're back Mark. You 2 make a great team. JP is good at explaining things, as you are. From what i know, the Shaolin are masters at strength training. They are brutal but effective.
I hope you grasp how useful this channel is for us Mark. Can we have a TGU nerd math pleas?
If I can find a white board
I very much appreciated that the topic of soreness was touched on. I've now embarked on following a volume cycle strategy with snatches and squats, and I'm dancing around how to deal with soreness as the volume increases and I'm pushing my limits. Provisionally, I'm doing snatches and squats twice a week, and then filling in the off days with a lighter routine of clubbell work. If I just rest, I tend to get very stiff and really sore by the second day off. And then I feel too sore to do snatches the next day. So anyway, I've recognized that soreness was probably the most important thing I have to address to train more consistently, and I'm trying to work it out on my own. Any tips would be appreciated.
i made a recovery video. lets see if i can get it online this week
Although not applicable to my goals there's still a lot of motivational chat to take away from this which is the sign of great coaching communication. Thx guys.
I'm in the same boat. Awesome lesson!
Bro I've completed 5 sprint tri s then my second daughter was born and blessed my life. Have really back slid since then This video makes me get back into it!! I loved it ! thanks
One channel is all what we need it seems.
It would be great to see how JP sets up an ironman prep, since in no way you can double the time and/or the distance of a full ironman in training (you can't train for 20 hours straight, I mean, you can, but it would do you more harm than good). That's the tricky part of ultra endurance events, that by definition your training always has to be shorter (less volume) than the actual competition.
Hi Mark, hope all is well with the family. Doing a triathlon event has been on my mind for some time. Excellent intro and I would love to see more. A video on recovery would be excellent. Yesterday was first really sore day after 10 x 5/5 cleans and 10 x 5/5 snatches the previous day. It was as you described in previous videos, well, not total, but partial destruction of the soul. And like I hit a wall while running a full sprint. It’s funny how just 20 minutes of kettlebells will totally kick your ass to the floor and keep stomping on you for the next 24 hours. Well, funny in a weird, perverted kettlebell way... Would a light cycle (of anything, kB, club or mace) help recovery?
Yes. Put in club or mace. You will feel loads better
@@MarkWildman 30 minutes of mace. Let’s se how it goes! 😁
I can't wait for this series. Once it gets warm and my plantar fasciitis is cleared up (almost) I want to train for a sprint tri. Assuming they are happening in 2021.
This stuff is great, more please!
Swim 2 times a weck. Spells out 2 times a weck hahaha loved it. You guys rock thanks for the advice
errm if u start doing merch... i would like to get some
Stuff I need. 👍
In the past I’ve done the 70.3 distance. I didn’t strength train because I didn’t know any better at the time. However, it was a 3 week build, then light recovery week. Would you incorporate a recovery period in a plan like you’re describing in this video?
Quick question: does it make a difference if one strength trains before or after the swim/run/bike work out? In terms of muscle development, one wouldn’t be able to squat as much after running 5 miles, or run as fast a 5m after squatting - so which is better for one’s muscles. Thanks!!
I might be getting into sprint triathlon in 2021, after kicking my butt with kettlebells for the past 10 months and dropping 30lbs...why not? I wouldn't double the distance for training purposes though, since I block out time in a predictable way, I highly doubt to be able to squeeze in 1.8miles of swimming, 30miles of biking and 10k running in my week for training purposes. Also, what I fear the most is the "chaining" of the different sports (I hear that what happens to your body when you switch from swimming to biking is not nice at all...). My approach would be to go for high intensity for shorter amount of time and shorter distances in order to build up the conditioning for longer distances. Luckily I live within walking distance from a swimming pool and I have safe areas where to run an bike nearby...
Hey Mark!! I need an advice! I had large hernia surgery 3months ago, my surgeon cleared me for working out, but i am unsure where to start. I have kettlebells(6,12,16,20)kg, dip bars, pull up bar, ressistance bands.Any help would be appreciated! :)
I think we need a video on swim trunk selection that details how Mark swam out of his trunks.
2x Swim
2x Bike
3x Run
2-3x Strength
Since that's between 9 and 10 activities in a given week, I wonder how a week would be programmed for this to allow for rest as well.. Would you want to simulate the transitions between the sports or concentrate effort on getting good at the individual legs? In 2021, I hope to compete and complete my first sprint triathlon, so if more videos come from this - I'd watch them all!
I would think you'd maybe want to do something like the following over the course of a few weeks for the distance shown on the board. Adding distance/time each week to each of the groups
Sunday - Rest
Monday - Swim (0.25 mile) to Bike (5 mile) AM, Strength PM
Tuesday - Run (easy effort, 1 mile)
Wednesday - Strength AM, Bike (5 mile) to Run (1 mile) PM
Thursday - Swim (30 min)
Friday - Bike (1 hour) AM, Strength PM
Saturday - Run (1 hour)
2:30?
I’m over 60, by no means elite, and my worst time in a sprint is @ 1:40
An average sprint should be 15 - 20 mins in the pool
~ 50 mins on the bike and 30-35 mins on the run. Add 5 mins for T1 and T2 and you’re still well under 2:00.
I would love to get that shirt you have on, not that one but on just like it in MY size.. Hope your family is well.....................
