Saved precious pictures! Thank you SO MUCH! I had month's worth of pics on this phone when it died. Tried everything then threw it in a drawer. Today I tried the blow drier method for 10 minutes and it didn't work. Then I tried your hot iron directly on the chipset thingy. OMG! the phone came alive! I managed to get all my pictures off, including the last few pictures of my very dear friend right before we found out she had terminal cancer. These pictures were the last I have where she had her beautiful hair. Can't say Thank You enough!!!
found myself doing this nonsense in despair to get a backup.Used highest setting on the iron and ironed my G4 chip for 2 minutes with a bit of pressure. Started it up and--believe it or not--- my phone started up. Bummer I had forgotten to insert a memory card so I had to restart my phone again. That however did not happen, it was back to creating boot loops.... Ok, what worked once may work twice. This time I ironed my LG G4 for 3 minutes at the highest setting. Then I inserted the battery, a sim and a memory card and tried to start it up. Yep, she came alive and I managed to back up to the memory card. Started the phone several times now and it still works, second day. Certainly learned something, thanks.
You are awesome. I had tried everything like putting it in the freezer, pressing the start button while pressing something else. Nothing worked and I was so upset because I had not backed up any of my many, many pictures. I had even thrown the phone in the trash can. Then I decided to try this, and retrieved it from the trash. Thank you, very much. THIS WORKS, PEOPLE TRY IT!
I can't believe this worked, had been fannying around for hours turning phone on and off etc The factory reset option hadn't worked. Did this in 10 minutes and phone has booted up. Now to back it up properly. Thank you!!
One thing that is missing from this video is the information regarding the iron temperature. We learn the duration, but we're lacking info on the irons temp. Alloys commonly used for electrical soldering are 60/40 Sn-Pb, which melts at 188 °C (370 °F), and 63/37 Sn-Pb used principally in electrical/electronic work. 63/37 is a eutectic alloy of these metals, which: has the lowest melting point (183 °C or 361 °F) of all the tin-lead alloys. Now our iron in our home has a minimum temperature of 104.444 °C (220°F). So what I did was get the iron as close as I could to 188 °C (370 °F) and the backed it off a little and let it rest on the chip for 5 minutes. Some irons are smart that have safety features built in like mine that if it's idle or hasn't moved for 60 seconds it will auto-shutoff the iron. I had to slightly pick mine up and re-rest it back on the chip about 5 times. I definitely got 5 minutes of heat on it and let it cool for about another 5 minutes before working with it again. Remember this is a temporary fix to a much larger issue with the LG G4 phones. LG admits G4 bootloop problem is a hardware fault and it totally has to do with it's cheap solder they used in manufacturing process for these chips. So I just tried this on my Wife's phone as it was doing the whole boot loop. We both have LG G4s but mine acted up 3 days after buying ours. Since hers is out of Warranty I figured it was either this or a new device. I followed all the steps above and I've got my Wife's phone up and running like a champ again. I currently have it doing a backup.
If I am not mistaken most cellphones use lead free solder now. Which melts around 220C I think but I very well could be wrong. But you got it to work so nice work!
Long story short... it only lasted for so long... The boot loop came back and we reviewed this article: disq.us/p/1h8y6sr which we sent back to LG and they took care of her G4 - That's not to say that LG will do this for everyone, but contacting them should be the first thing to try. There also is a petition for the LG G4: bit.ly/1Ue35LS
Thank you. It worked and I was able to back up the entire phone. I had my iron right 354 °F (use an infrared thermometer to get the reading) for 5 minutes.
I have tried the hair dryer and the fridge. Thay all failed. This is awesome! My college teen daughter was so delighted to have all her data backup before getting a replacement from T-Mobile. Thank you!

Thanks man you're the best my phone bootlooped last night and I didn't have a hair dryer. Tried to borrow from neighbors but to no avail. Then saw this video using iron and it worked. You're a genius I tell you. Keep up the good work man. God bless
Flippin brilliant! I had serious doubts about taking an iron to my motherboard but it worked! Time enough now to back this thing up and see how long it'll last. I did as someone else suggested and lined the chip with aluminum. Promise to update on that. Thank you Learn EVThing, this video was a lifesaver and I like how you did it (simple, visual and aurally appealing).

Hello, thank you! got my LG g4 working again. Be careful with the iron, you need to position it correctly or you might damage your motherboard. I got it working today so 12 hours running so far. I will keep you guys updated for how long this fix will last.
Okay, This fix had my phone working for 20 hours, now I applied thin aluminium peace and some toothpaste on top of the chip. And got it working again. I will keep you updated for how long this fix will last.
Thank you very much for this video. I fixed my phone right now and its working awesomely with a lil tin foil at the back it puts pressure of the chip and i am glad that i took the risk. I will be getting the LG V30+ soon because LG is the best after all. Thank you once again. All the way from South Africa
Just tried this technique but instead of using an iron, I used my wife's hair straightener. I cranked the hair straightener to 177 celsius and waited a bit to bring up the temperature. Then I took the phone apart as shown in the video and placed the cpu chip directly onto the hot plate of the hair straightener while applying pressure using a small stick for 8 minutes. After all that was done, I put the phone back together and guess what???? IT ACTUALLY WORKED!! The phone booted up successfully and is now back to normal and has been for the last 3 hrs. I have transferred all of her important data from the phone and hoping it will continue to work.
This worked for me. I attempted it twice. The first time only lasting for a couple hours before bootloop again but the second time has made it 24hrs+ now and I've been using the hell out of it and recharging it and it has yet to get hot or loop the boot. I feel like if it does do it again I can just repeat this process until the G6 is out. Also when I got it back on the second time I immediately imported pics and freed up hard drive space and it didn't bootloop so that's good maybe that helped. Have had this G4 H815 since June 2015 bootloop hit this past month Feb 2017 morning after Super Bowl. Previously had a G2 that lasted until G4 was out. Bring on the G6. Cheers
Learn EVThing Lg g4 was so good until it bootlooped the otherday. Fucking ridiculous out of all the stuff to go wrong it was a massive hardware fault. Could have been battery or camera problems but no had to be something pretty much unfixable.
Clear one thing up I have the H810. So the second time using this method approached 96 hours before I had to do it again but it worked again and that was a few hours ago. Hope G6 releases soon. Read April 7 but not confirmed.
Hey thanks tried the hair dryer method but no go so ironed out the problem using your method...iron on high with no steam for 5 minutes....cheers for that
Perfect IDEA THANKS! MY OLD LG 4 - start WORKING LIKE A NEW ! AND I’M use COPER DESOLDERING VIRE for cooler , WORKING and no pasta no GLU. Big difference, NO HEET from CPU! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the video, did the iron thing for 5+5 mins and successfully fixed my phone today. Also applied thermal paste on the chips too. I'll see how long it last.
I am shocked to say that this worked for me as well...for how long?? But at least long enough to grab the photos and screen shot my apps. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks so much, it works on my G4 too. I had apply the iron about 10 min with a temperature for more or less around 100°c on the chip. The temperature was measured with a laser thermometer. The iron was set at mid range.
It worked. At first was quite skeptic about it but gave it a try... Unfortunately at home I have not any Iron, so tried first with my hairdrier without solution. I then stole my mom's one, and set it to medium temperature, 5 minutes, closed the phone and tried, again no solution. Ok then, last try, maximum power to the iron, 5 minutes, cooling time (maybe 10 minutes?) and closed up, now thge phone works... Only things, the digitizer now acts weird, but it could be to my fault with the ribbon. Thanks for the amazing solution, could retrieve my wife's photos and videos.
i have lgg4 and it is stuck on bootloop.. i tried the hair drier many times but it didn't work and deiced to buy another phone .. finally i found this amazing idea and it is work very good .. thank you bro for your help to get back my phone.
Yeah this is the best close up video yet to fix this problem... I my opinion LG should reimburse everyone that bought this phone... After my LG G6 phone that I have now, I never buy another LG phone again... They seriously screwed the pooche... I had to buy another phone out on the road as a truck driver, no choice...
After one year seating in a drawer finally start work, and yea put it 5 min under 190 C its gonna bend the motherboard (that happened to me) Thanks man you are the BEst, im gonna use my favorite phone again thanks....
tq for the tutorial.. my g4 look fine now n its already 7 hour past. i put a pcs of paper to cover the mobo n put the iron to it . 1st try just for 1 minutes n its still on bootloop mood. 2nd try for 5 minutes n its magic.. its working. hoping when i wake up tomorow morning my g4 still alive hahha..
well it worked for me tho i had to use my hotplate instead, i thought to myself stage 1 should have almost the same heat exposure like an Clothing Iron, so i layed baking paper on the hotplate, the handy chip on top and fixed it with a frying pan like 4-5 minutes and it works the same. A well deserved like from me, really helpful trick ^w^
Thanks for sharing you experience and solution; however, I was surprised that you placed a hot iron on the floor [it looked like a linoleum floor]. I still use my G4, but I canceled my service with AT&T (my last bill is due this month); however, I was very upset that in late 2017 my G4 experienced the infamous "Boot Loop" - almost 2 years to the date of purchase and new service with AT&T. AT&T washed their hands with any "customer support" - I didn't join the class action lawsuit because LG stepped up and offered to repair the phone for free - the only cost to me was to ship the device to them. Now nearly three-(3) years later either my battery is dying, a worsened "boot loop" or the internal circuitry is being tampered with by "pick your poison" - The industrial/political push is the new G5 bandwidth frequencies! I am not going to purchase another "handheld computer" for $500.00 to $1000.00 besides AT&T service has gotten much worse.
Tried this & worked like a charm, did put a hotspot onto the screen where the CPU is as I added a small heat sink on top of the CPU but nice work & thanks for the video.
Thank you to Learn EVThing for this video! This worked for me... Kind of. If initially it doesn't work for you, I offer some advice as to what I did, which let me back up my crucial data. By the way, Verizon replaced my phone for free even though it is over a year old. Apparently, there was a class action lawsuit brought against LG, and now they are replacing everyone's busted phone, and supposedly if you send it to LG, they will recover your data if you ask. I don't know, because it takes 2-3 weeks with them, where Verizon was overnight. My first go, I didn't have enough heat. My iron has an auto off, and it turned itself off. I cranked it to high heat, and let it go for about 2 minutes. Afterwards, I applied gentle pressure in a slight circular motion (Not sure if that helped). The phone got past the LG boot screen to the Verizon boot screen, then froze. I was able to boot into safe mode (power and volume down until the boot menu shows up.) It helps to try clearing the cache first. Ultimately, I was able to boot into the phone in normal mode. I achieved this by wrapping the phone in paper towels and freezing it. It heated up quickly, and I was only able to be logged in for about 30 seconds until it locked up again. My next attempt, I put it in the freezer again, and when I took it out, I kept it sandwiched between two frozen cold packs. I would work on backing up data for 30 second intervals, leaving the bottom of the phone on one cold pack, then placing the other cold pack over the screen for 30 seconds on and off.
This worked ! Thanks. Did not have an IR thermometer. But I cranked by small iron to the max and let is sit there for 5 min. Like Nathan, my wife will be happy too that her photos are back. FYI... the hair dryer thing did not work.
Very smart idea! How about 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes? Wouldn't that work better? Anyone try to heat it longer and see if it's more permanent fix? Another idea is after the fix, don't just re-assemble it, after heating it with iron, but fold an aluminum foil into 1 cm square (slightly thcker than credit card) and stick it between the metal frame and the center dhip. That way, it will continue to apply pressure to the chip, helping to prolong the fix.
Yes I agree, five minutes is plenty. Hopefully iron being used will stay near 200 degree Celsius range, as too high a temperature will destroy bga chips. I saw videos of re flowing bga chips at 350 deg Celsius, but that's with a heat gun and only for 30 seconds.
Very Nice video. For those who does not the temperature, you can go buy an infrared thermometer. Then you can know the temperature of the bottom of the iron
Te agradecería si me explicas. Si es que dispones de tiempo. Gracias y disculpa la molestia.
Well, this absolutely works. My sisters G4 died on her May of 2016, wanted to get the photos from it and i wasn't having luck with any other method. 2200 Photos/videos recovered. Took almost an hour to move them all but it stayed up long enough.
If it gets broken soon, which it probably will, then the easiest way to fix it is to just let it sir in the logi screen and charge it. It will get hot enough that it powers on by itself :)
Thank you man! it helped, so far is working now!!! Initially I was worried WHAT??? IRON??? NO WAY!!! then I read the feed backs and most of them said it worked, So I gave a try.. If it happens again, I WILL FIND LAVA AND DIP IT INSIDE, so it permanently soldered!!! :))))
Alright, phone died this morning, same boot loop! searched and searched forums and nothing concrete solution other than factory reset which didn't help. Since at work, don't have iron so what I did is "baked" board into oven for 5 mins at 300 degrees. I covered ALL plastics using foil so they don't melt! sure enough it worked!!!
Good one... but remember LG is replacing the motherboard if bootlooped even after warranty. I tried freezing and it worked for me for 24 hours then I got my warranty claimed :D
Great video dude excellent job, I went with the hairdryer first and I was able to extract all my information and phone is charging right now I’ll see how long it lasts but excellent job thanks, by the way 1500 W hairdryer 1/4 inch away from the chip for 10 minutes
Sos el mejor!!! Me funciono perfecto!
Recomendo.
This is my second fix. First time worked again for over 1 month. It’s working again but I will replace the phone. My repair will give me time to ensure all is backed up and shop for best deal. Won’t be an LG though.
this also works for my v10 and it will only fix for like an hour lol , this is the first and last time i buy an lg device! i have high hopes for this phone then it suddenly bootloop again
I have never seen anyone else put a magnet on their screwdriver. I have been doing that since neodymium magnets started becoming super accessible. Before that I just kept a hdd magnet in my tool box and magnetized screwdrivers the 'old fashioned' way.
I used this method to fix my wife's g4 and she is over the moon😊😊I left the iron on max heat for 10-15 mins. Put it all back together and it works better and quicker than it did before and so far it's been on for 5 to 6 hrs and still all good😊😊
so you all people opened the smartphone, recovered data and then sent the phone to lg and got it fixed? i mean, right now i want to send to lg but i wanted to take pictures of the logic board before but they say i'll lose warranty if i open the case (but they won't do it - they want me to send it completely blind, so that later they can deny fix with a picture i won't even know if it's real). can they detect you opened it? did you get if fixed despite opening? did you not lose warranty?
Juan Alfaro well , i dont know if my iron doesnt get hot enough but, i need to do this every day, like i did it this morning like at 11.30 am and im waiting know for it to turn off haha😂😂😂 like almost every 22 hours, i dont even have the screws screwed in..

Have had this G4 H815 since June 2015 bootloop hit this past month Feb 2017 morning after Super Bowl. Previously had a G2 that lasted until G4 was out. Bring on the G6. Cheers
Jordan Parris G6 looks amazing lets hope it doesn't have the bootloop problem again
+jay mcmillan I hope so.
I won’t buy lg anymore I’m looking forward to Samsung
It worked! Was sceptical as all hell at first but it was this or a new phone. Turned the heat to medium and did 4 mins. Great hack. You da man!
My phone's V10 had bootloop dead for 3 weeks. Now i fixed it already. I followed all of your steps. Thank u for this Video.
Thu 9 - Nov - 2017.
what time work by this method?
Excellent ...method ...worked perfectly...my phone is back to normal and no booting....kudos to you.
I never liked ironing until now. Great solution, thank you!
Can you teach us how you did it? Is it a permanent fix?
Thanks for the video, did the iron thing for 5+5 mins and successfully fixed my phone today. Also applied thermal paste on the chips too. I'll see how long it last.
What is the result bro?
I am shocked to say that this worked for me as well...for how long?? But at least long enough to grab the photos and screen shot my apps. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks so much, it works on my G4 too.
I had apply the iron about 10 min with a temperature for more or less around 100°c on the chip.
The temperature was measured with a laser thermometer. The iron was set at mid range.
Just tried this iron solution and works perfectly, my phone is alive again! thanks a lot
what iron solution ????
Is it still working?
Yeah this is the best close up video yet to fix this problem... I my opinion LG should reimburse everyone that bought this phone... After my LG G6 phone that I have now, I never buy another LG phone again... They seriously screwed the pooche... I had to buy another phone out on the road as a truck driver, no choice...
After one year seating in a drawer finally start work, and yea put it 5 min under 190 C its gonna bend the motherboard (that happened to me) Thanks man you are the BEst, im gonna use my favorite phone again thanks....
The fix last 10 days...I made it again today and again too it works. How long? That's the question.
The picture I took yesterday were lost...
tq for the tutorial.. my g4 look fine now n its already 7 hour past. i put a pcs of paper to cover the mobo n put the iron to it . 1st try just for 1 minutes n its still on bootloop mood. 2nd try for 5 minutes n its magic.. its working. hoping when i wake up tomorow morning my g4 still alive hahha..
Thank you! I also tried the blow-dryer and the freezer with no success. This method was a first time go. It's been working for a couple of hours now.
well it worked for me tho i had to use my hotplate instead, i thought to myself stage 1 should have almost the same heat exposure like an Clothing Iron, so i layed baking paper on the hotplate, the handy chip on top and fixed it with a frying pan like 4-5 minutes and it works the same.
Tried this & worked like a charm, did put a hotspot onto the screen where the CPU is as I added a small heat sink on top of the CPU but nice work & thanks for the video.
this totally worked for me, enough for me to get my phone running and download my photos. thank you!!
+lefermiergq you're welcome.
is your phone still working
Still working?
chaoazul it worked for a couple days then i got it replaced by warranty.
Worked really well, had to iron on the viscose setting for about 10 mins after trying twice for 5 mins and not working
woohoo it worked for me. had been trying all different ways to repair my g4. finally had it running. thanks mate.
It worked for me 100%
Thanks for resurrecting my old friend....Awesome
Thanks x1000,000.000 my phone is working again..... to those who feel not too sure about this I made it. It Work!
Did you lose any of your data??
Jun Whang Smart, really smart
i'm curious too if that will work
i did it for a full hour and no luck, i need to do it every day for 5 mins
5 mins its enough
Yes I agree, five minutes is plenty. Hopefully iron being used will stay near 200 degree Celsius range, as too high a temperature will destroy bga chips. I saw videos of re flowing bga chips at 350 deg Celsius, but that's with a heat gun and only for 30 seconds.
Very Nice video. For those who does not the temperature, you can go buy an infrared thermometer. Then you can know the temperature of the bottom of the iron
Hola amigo, gracias por publicar este video. Despues de seguir tus pasos mi LG G4 volvió a funcionar nuevamente. Saludos
Hi, I used this method on a work pal's phone... IT WORKS! Thanks, very good explanation on the video. Cheers from Argentina.
Is it still working?
It worked for me. It is only for do a data recovery. The phone may be stuck again later.
Te agradecería si me explicas. Si es que dispones de tiempo. Gracias y disculpa la molestia.
On NRG did it get stuck again
Well, this absolutely works. My sisters G4 died on her May of 2016, wanted to get the photos from it and i wasn't having luck with any other method. 2200 Photos/videos recovered. Took almost an hour to move them all but it stayed up long enough.
Daymmm what just happened? My phone is fix! Thanks alot couuuz!
If it gets broken soon, which it probably will, then the easiest way to fix it is to just let it sir in the logi screen and charge it. It will get hot enough that it powers on by itself :)
@@IStoleYourSandwich will it last forever like hope, faith and hope?
Worked for me. Going on 2 hours now. All is backed up just in case. Fingers crossed.
Thank you it worked again I used a heat gun for 1:30 minute, now it's working great.
On the picture it's a PHILIPS iron, do not try to use an LG, important factor! :D
That's funny, you said your phone had no issues.
Tried it and got my data transferred. Thanks for the video.
Damn! It worked! Didn't think it would but I was desperate to recover data, and yet it worked!
Good one... but remember LG is replacing the motherboard if bootlooped even after warranty.
Fixed mine with this method. Only had a knife, my hand and an iron, tks
no way, it worked on my g4! lol
used a hairdryer and my g4 wakes up!
thank you so much!!
theflashgixxer is it still working?
Majin Gotenks nope, lasted only a fra days. The great new is that it's actually dead lol
Yo bro your iron looks mad crusty lol what the iron did was resolder the joints to the PCB clever trick.
It worked, I was able to at least back up my photos before it did it again though. RIP LGG4. Had it for 3+ years
Well, how did you manage to own for + 3 years a phone released in 2015?
skyblade64 whoa you're right. But we are getting closer to its third anniversary. Came out in spring didn't it
Sos el mejor!!! Me funciono perfecto!
At what temp do you set the Iron? Thx.
It worked, hoping it'll be more permanent that it has seemed for others as I can't afford to replace my phone!
It worked, True Talk!!!
Thanks for the assistance.
Thanks man! Got time to safe all my important stuff before mobile went off
My LG g3 had this problem. A NEW BATTERY 🔋 fixed it😉😄😃 No further issues.
I was totally in shocked when I saw my phone turn on and actually work, can someone do an explain video to this? 😱 thank you a lot
It is just re-soldering the phone together....
The phone unsolders itself because of its overheating ^^
thanks . i also did that my g4 same error loop problem. how long it can be run ?
+Prabath Sanjeewa it will make a long life for your device if you luck, hihi.
it works for me also. thanks a lot
Prabath Sanjeewa mine lasted for 15 days (1 hour left before turning into 16 days)
Repair worked for 4 hours. Long enough to move contacts to SIM card. Repair also damaged any reception for broadband but WIFI still worked.
This is my second fix. First time worked again for over 1 month. It’s working again but I will replace the phone. My repair will give me time to ensure all is backed up and shop for best deal. Won’t be an LG though.
This is just the 1st method he didnt include the modifying heatsink method bu puting copper sheets about 0.2 meters on the procie and emmc...
this also works for my v10 and it will only fix for like an hour lol , this is the first and last time i buy an lg device! i have high hopes for this phone then it suddenly bootloop again
Thank u it's done success boot will be done they go to home screen but after mobile will be restart
sớm muộn nó lại chết thôi , giỏi lắm xài được vài tuần nữa à .. ^^
Mình thử rồi mình biết.
Thanks man it actually worked, nevermind it only worked temporarily.
Thanks dude.... It worked well... but did the iron for 2 mins.... 5 is too long I guess
but how
I have never seen anyone else put a magnet on their screwdriver. I have been doing that since neodymium magnets started becoming super accessible. Before that I just kept a hdd magnet in my tool box and magnetized screwdrivers the 'old fashioned' way.
Hey, thanks so much for this method!! Fixed my phone and it works perfectly now!
Tom Cibulskis is it still working?
Thanks for sharing this video 🙏🙏
Your video help me to repair my phone.
I used this method to fix my wife's g4 and she is over the moon😊😊I left the iron on max heat for 10-15 mins. Put it all back together and it works better and quicker than it did before and so far it's been on for 5 to 6 hrs and still all good😊😊
every iron can be used for this?
so you all people opened the smartphone, recovered data and then sent the phone to lg and got it fixed? i mean, right now i want to send to lg but i wanted to take pictures of the logic board before but they say i'll lose warranty if i open the case (but they won't do it - they want me to send it completely blind, so that later they can deny fix with a picture i won't even know if it's real). can they detect you opened it? did you get if fixed despite opening? did you not lose warranty?
if the mobile phone is repaired with an electric iron ,it is a good mobile phone.did as the video and fixed the phone .That's great!
Worked for me too!
Great background music and editing!
Thanks for the great video, Cheers!
is it still working??
Still working?
Juan Alfaro well , i dont know if my iron doesnt get hot enough but, i need to do this every day, like i did it this morning like at 11.30 am and im waiting know for it to turn off haha😂😂😂 like almost every 22 hours, i dont even have the screws screwed in..
still work or after few days its back to the bootloop?
Thank you bro it worked for me but they say is only temporary solution what do you think ?
+Mikhail Orlov yes, I think it's temporary solution for you can take your data from device.
Thanks!!!!! I have my contacts back! I have to left iron on mainboard for about 7 minutes.
Hey wich temperatur?
