"Is Elton John from Kansas?" Is the funniest thing I've heard in awhile
Yes!😄
agreed
No he’s from somewhere over the rainbow!!! LOL sorry but that was too funny!!!
I think Elton would shut TH-cam down if he heard that someone said he was Kansas.
OMG, yes! I was laughing so hard I had to pause the video.
When you both asked "is he from Kansas?" I almost died laughing.....I love you both...you are both so awesome...Elton is British
Reginald Dwight!
He sang at princess Diana's funeral, I believe.
Eltonwas made in England
@@lindalavadinho9639 Yes he did. A remake of his candle in the wind song.
close. England in the 70s was kinda like a BIG Kansas! with better fish and chips.
Elton is one of the most successful solo artists of all time. Elton is English, like The Beatles, The Stones, Queen etc etc. Elton has one of the most extensive catalogs in music
Yup, also Elton had his start singing covers of popular 60's songs before hitting the big time.
It is hard for me to believe that someone has never heard of Elton.. but then again his music was the soundtrack of my youth.. in the 70s, you could not go 15 minutes without hearing a song of his on the radio. We used to call the radio station and request "Razor Face", or some other deep cut that did not get as much air time. They don't make music like that anymore, in my opinion.
He was briefly in T-Rex
was also knighted by the Queen in 1998, so he is properly called Sir Elton
Facts
It’s all well and good to praise Elton. He’s an incredible artist. But let’s not forget to give a proper tip of the hat to the lyric writer, Bernie Taupin. These two men are an amazing team.
Yesss!
You need to leann rimes cattle call
This song would be nothing without the lyrics. They are 90% of why it's great
Did Bernie write these lyrics about Elton turning his back on the glam life in LA? I know that’s how it was portrayed in the movie Rocketman
@@raymondmassie4898 Bernie said "There was a period when I was going through that whole ‘got to get back to my roots’ thing, which spawned a lot of like-minded songs in the early days, this being one of them. I don’t believe I was ever turning my back on success or saying I didn’t want it. I just don’t believe I was ever that naïve. I think I was just hoping that maybe there was a happy medium way to exist successfully in a more tranquil setting. My only naiveté, I guess, was believing I could do it so early on. I had to travel a long road and visit the school of hard knocks before I could come even close to achieving that goal."
This song is about escaping narcissistic abuse. Elton John's voice and piano playing mixed with Bernie Taupin's lyrics = PERFECTION!
Rocket Man and Tiny Dancer are two Elton classics
This is a rabbit hole you guys should pack a hearty lunch for😎
Maybe an overnight bag.
For Real, when she asked, "is he blind" all I could think is get ready for Sir Elton, John, try Bennie and the Jets.
Hey can I talk to you guys about your car warranties? It’s quite obvious you’ll take my call
his slow stuff is good, his upbeat songs are FIRE!!!
btw this is a 70s song. lots of extra meaning like White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.
It doesn’t matter how many years I’ve been listening to Elton John, he still gives me chills.
Bernie's genius gives Elton Voice. Without Bernie Elton wouldn't be Elton.
“Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics in two and a half weeks, with John composing most of the music in three days.” It was recorded in two weeks….greatness doesn’t have to take time!
As an old guy, its hard to believe some people have never heard of Eton John
Seriously!!!
I remember this song when i was child back im 2010s in our radio then after quantumania it brings me nostalgic feeling
I agree. I'm 37 and it's hard for me to believe that either
I’m 16 and mostly listen to r and b and hip hop, but I still can’t believe so many people haven’t listened to him, not to mention the hundreds of other great musicians from throughout the 20th century!
I'm pretty sure they've heard of him they just aren't familiar with his music
I've heard them recall remembering certain books and what not
Dont Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Sorry Seem to Be the Hardest Word, Take Me to the Pilot...classics!
Don't let the sun go down on me With George Micheals. Live, Great version.
Ticking
Love Elton madman across the water,. Funeral for a friend/love lies bleeding
YES
Absolutely!
Yes!! Hope they listen to this song! The best piano song 🥰
“Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding”. 💖
Great suggestion!
His best of the best!!!
They are seriously feelin those high notes and harmonies, I love it! This is back when people actually sang songs
If your kids are Lion King fans, you've heard Sir Elton, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life". If you want something fun, "I"m Still Standing". A great romantic tune " The One"
I'm still standing in the animation movie Sing
How can anyone not have heard of Elton John?!?!
Funeral For A Friend is an absolute must.
Love love love it
Someone Saved My Life Tonight has always been my favorite Elton tune.
Yes this song helped change my life! Someone Saved My Life Tonight HELPED SAVE MY LIFE!
Such a great song.
Elton John is so talented, Ya'll just scratched the surface!!! Jay you like piano, you will love "SIR Elton John" Yes he was knighted!! Love watching ya'll reactions!! ROCK ON!!
Sir Elton John is a piano master. Ive seen him twice live and hes just amazing
Your lolling heads on the falsetto hits just about made me cry. Exactly how I feel. Gorgeous and heartbreaking every damn time.
Never heard of Elton John. Oh my lord. He is a superstar. What a lot of discovering you have in front of you! If you like piano. Billy Joel. Try the live version of Piano Man with Elton John and Billy Joel. Elton is English:) yes has been knighted by the Queen
Lest we forget Barry Manilow!!!
th-cam.com/video/gxEPV4kolz0/w-d-xo.html
Give em a break... They're first time reactors! That's why we watch them! 😉
@@cathyhall1350 Even if they haven't heard the music, never to heard of Elton John at all is astonishing. I wasn't being critical. Just amazed.
@@stormy8207 It does seem strange perhaps to those of us who grew up with this music and these people but when I stop to think it does make sense. I'm not without connections to people who aren't as old as time but I know next to nothing about music in this century. Ignorance is something we all share on many subjects, and they will get all the joy of discovery. I'm rather jealous really. :)
He's from England and you should react to Elton John and George Michael....Don't let the sun go down on me.......amazing!!!! Oh and there's piano in it!!! 😉
Tiny Dancer is probably his most magnificent multi-layered song.
Hold me closer, Tony Danza.
I go back and forth between tiny and funeral for a friend.
Absolutely 👍
I just want to flood the comments with “Levon”!
@@christopherhiggins2350 YAS!!!!! sooo glad someone threw that in because I was thinking it completely LOL
This album is fire…….. Especially the double song “ Funeral for a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding”.
It’s kind of crazy how many incredible songs Elton John has made. What a talent.
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is a great story song. "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" has some of the best music. You should do both at some time.
Agreed!
These are some Excellent suggestions!
Let's not forget Madman across the water!
Gotta have Daniel. I saw Elton on July 4, 1976 in what is now Gillette Stadium, home of the Patriots. What an amazing concert. The piano came in handy when Elton came onstage standing on the piano dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Pinball Wizard had accompanying fireworks to look like a hand holding a ball. Lots of fireworks, almost every song he every sang, I was determined not to leave until he sang Daniel. Luckily he did. I had just graduated high school, and had already been to many concerts, but nothing no one before or since has had the combination of talent and showmanship. Queen came the closest, but still not anything like Sir Elton John
Agree 100%
In the 1970s, most music critics considered Elton John to be the third greatest pianist in the world. He had been a child prodigy, who could hear a piece of music once and play it back note for note, or actually improvise upon it in a creative and intelligent manner.
You've GOT to, as in you MUST listen to the song "Bennie & The Jets!" Elton gets STOOPID (in a good way) on the keys!
The whole Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album is amazing .
ikr...it is like a Renaissance period for music
Its one of the greatest albums ever- in my opinion. 'Funeral for a Friend' is the best intro to any album. Please play it. Brilliant!
Bernie Taupin is the lyricist and Elton John the composer. They've been working together for around thirty years. Yellow Brick Road album, such an amazing album.
The farm thing came from Elton’s lyric writer, Bernie Taupin, who had a cattle ranch.
I don't think he had his ranch then. I saw an interview with Taupin saying back then he always wanted to live in the Midwest US and that's where that part of the song came from.
They also did an album titled "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy". Captain Fantastic is Elton, and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is Bernie
Taupin is a fantastic lyracist. Elton had some good songs with others, but his work with Bernie just goes straight to my heart.
@@RazielXSR One of my favorites. In addition to writing most of Elton John's hits, he and Martin Page wrote These Dreams, a hauntingly beautiful songs recorded by Heart.
Bernie was from the country and a shy boy.
You should hear "Candle in the Wind by Elton John. Beautiful.
Both versions!
Princess Diana.
The original studio version is better, although not as popular
So a very deep and amazing track is SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT. Big song!!!
Also Empty Garden (Hey, Hey Johnny) a tribute to John Lennon.
It's a beautiful album. Next try Elton's "Tiny Dancer"......it will give Jay his piano fix!
If he wants a piano fix then he should listen to Ticking.
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" has been my FAVORITE song for 20+ years and it seriously bring tears to my eyes to hear it after a while. Whatever notes he hits just transports me away.
I got to see him in his farewell "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" tour in 2019, 6th row.
I’m with you. This is one of my top three favorite songs of all time.
Isn't it great to experience this song with them - it's like finding the song for the first time all over again.
@@mikefisher8531 yeah. Something about the notes and simplicity of the song.
@@Fuzcapp yes, this is why I watch people play my favorite video games and songs, cause I get to experience them a new with others and I feed off their enjoyment.
Aww, one of my top 5 songs. It just resonated with me, especially when his those high notes. I remember staring at the cover of my parents' LP growing up. When I became a teenager, I wore this and Captain Fantastic album OUT! Nice to see a fellow 80s baby love this song as much as I do. ❤️
One of my favorite songs from Sir Elton John ❤️🇬🇧☮️💟
Never heard of Elton John...he is literally a legend in the music business and charts.
Elton was knighted by the Queen of England. So, yes. Sir, Elton is correct.
I thought Elton was the Queen of England !
@@cryptotrader2779 no that's Prince Charles
Does that mean he is not from Kansas, LMAO.
@@cryptotrader2779 Well, he is one of them. He gets great respect for being himself, and deserves it.
You need to react to one of his masterpieces a song called "Your Song"; a beautiful piece of music with great singing, lyrics and piano playing. This was his first hit in 1970 but is still resonates today.
Loved Elton's music. He and Bernie made a terrific team!
Oh my gosh you guys are young! But that’s why I love you , your innocence and open mind ness is what makes you two the best!
If you love piano, this is the artist to dive in to.
I’ve never heard of Santa Claus..can you tell me about him?
Yes. As someone playing piano for fun, his songs are playable too.
Funeral for a Friend...love lies bleeding a true classic
Absolutely!!!!!!! This is for a piano lover! I saw Elton live in 1976 and he sang this. It was phenomenal!!!!!!!✌❤
He is Sir. He was knighted by the queen. ✌❤
@@donnagonatas3155 Donna I have seen him several times...EJ song’s were the music of my childhood ❤️
@@ericstratton7600 I graduated high school in 1978. Elton was part of the soundtrack of the best years of my life!!! EJ, Fleetwood Mac the list goes on. Thats part of the reason i love these reactions. Just hearing all this great music. ✌❤
@@donnagonatas3155 Donna you got me by a couple of years...Dam glad to meet you
You will LOVE Sir Elton John !!!
Try Tiny Dancer nest or Daniels Song ... he never made a bad song. He even recently did a duet with Ozzy Ozborne (of all people lol) that was WAY better than I expected, Ordinary Man is the name ... I think lol
I’ve never heard of Santa Claus.. can you tell me about him?
Sir Elton!
So many hits! Don’t Let the Sunshine go down!
I'd recommend the film - Elton Johns' bio - "Rocketman". This song- just one of so many great ones- strikingly makes the sadness beautiful. He'd had success, too much, and it led to a very ugly place, so this song indicates that he knew it was time to change.
Keep up the great work, by the way.
I watched that movie 8 times in the theater. It got me to go to rehab. It was THAT great!❤️
"Is he from Kansas?" Kansas wouldn't be ready for Elton John today, let alone in the 60s. 😁
SO MUCH I GIGGLED AT THAT Chokin on my coffee too lol
Best post I have seen this week. LMAO
Yeah, I'm from Kansas and have "never seen" a gay person....lol
Your comment makes no sense....
60s lol.
I agree, these guys and other 20 something reaction are hilarious things they say!
This is wonderful! (He’s from London but his lyricist, Bernie Taupin is from farmland in Lincolnshire, England.) This has been one of my favorite songs for decades and I ADORE that y’all are loving it, too! Elton John, at one point, was solely responsible for 6% of all records sales in the world! His impact on music can’t be overstated. Ok, I’m finishing the video now…… 😄
Just as Freddie Mercury's life was recently shown in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, Elton John's life is shown in the movie Rocketman. He also wrote the soundtrack for The Lion King, so you might have heard his music even if you have not heard his famous rock songs (like Rocketman and I'm Still Standing).
Yes!! If you’ve seen the original Lion King, you’ve heard of Elton!!
Rocketman was a pretty bad movie though lol
I love the way the girl reacts to the melodic "aaahhhhhhhhh" part of the song is so cute and genuine. I chuckle when I see it.
3:00 that time when Some of my favorite people in the world became fans of one of my favorite singers in the world.....the love is instant!
This song was in reference to his dispute with his record label where they had a difference of opinion in which direction his music should go. You should check out Rocket man, Crocodile Rock, Benny and the Jets, Candle in the Wind and Your Song Can't go wrong with any of them
And sad songs
I don't think Sir Elton John made a bad or even mediocre song!
"In Taupin’s rendering, the Yellow Brick Road is a path to artifice and deceit, a far cry from the owls and toads and ploughs on the farm from whence the narrator came." Has nothing to do with Elton John's life or business dealings.
Yep, the song is metaphor.
Richie u r so rite
Elton John is a GOAT. One of the Grandpas of rock/pop. He’s amazing. TONS of music to get thru:
Your Song, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Tiny Dancer, Bennie and the Jets, Rocket Man, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Daniel, Saturday Night’s Alright, Philadelphia Freedom, Honky Cat, Levon, Crocodile Rock, I’m Still Standing…and that’s just the 70s/80s. It’s ridiculous.
I love that part... “ is he from Kansas??” Nope, he's from little old Britain. 😂😂😂 brilliant reaction vid guys. Peace 🙏🏻👍🏻
that was the cutest thing! Elton John from Kansas??? i am DEAD!!!
"im not a present for your friends to open" ive been listening to this song since it first came out and i still to this day say god thats a great line. its one of the best lines ever
I grew up sharing a room with my older sister who loved EJ. I know all the songs by heart I have heard them so much. LPs on a little record player. Ahh the early 70’s.
OK piano fanatic. There is one true piano song you must listen to….Billy Joel Piano Man.
Yes yes yes. Amazing song
Listen to the man, Billy Joel
Also do "Don't go changing" by Billy Joel.
agree on billy joel Piano Man .. he's also got an extensive catalogue of excellent music like Vienna, Just the way you are, new york state of mind, always a woman.. the list goes on
Billy Joel was hardcore rocker in the early days. "Captain Jack" but we can't play that anymore because it's controversial.
You've just hit a new rabbit hole. Elton was huge in the 70's. The next song you should listen to of his is "Rocket Man".
I’ve never heard of Santa Claus.. can you tell me about him!
PLEASE react to Elton Johns song ,, Philadelphia Free dome ,,,, From 1975 , The BASS IS so nasty Your ears will need a shower ,, One of the best feel good songs EVER , You will thank me . I promise , THE 70s baby
SO IS BILLY JOEL ,, HES Another very popular 70s SUPER STAR
Also Elton John didn’t write any of his lyrics. Bernie Taupin wrote them. Then Elton would put the music to it
Not entirely true...A Single Man is the twelfth studio album by English singer-songwriter Elton John. Released in 1978, it is the first album where Gary Osborne replaced Bernie Taupin as lyricist. It is also the first of two (the second being Victim of Love) Elton John albums to not have any tracks co-written by Bernie Taupin on the original cut. However your statement is true for this album
@@allanjones1680 Ashley Osborne only wrote lyrics for a few Elton John songs. All the rest were Bernie Taupin. Little Jeannie and blue eyes were the only hits that Osborne is responsible for.
@@allanjones1680 What came first the words or the music?
@@elevenbucks5682 , almost always the lyrics, although when he wrote with Gary Osborne, Elton went to him with a bunch of music and asked him for lyrics (Although not all their songs were written this way.).
And he came up with the first couple of lines of "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word", with Bernie writing the rest (And as an FYI, Elton and Bernie have never worked together in the same room, and often, not even in the same country.).
@@poeslanding - not all the rest. On 21 at 33 there are 3 songs which were not written with either Gary Osborne or Bernie Taupin.
He wrote Never Gonna Fall in Love Again and Sartorial Elegance with Tom Robinson (who recorded both of them on Cabaret '79 Glad to Be Gay).
He wrote "Give Me the Love" with Judie Tzuke.
Bernie Taupin sure knows how to write the lyrics and it's awe inspiring how quickly Elton can set these words to music
I was so lucky to have grown-up during the 70s and to live in a household where great music was playing all of the time from my two older brothers. My middle brother was a HUGE Elton John fan and everytime I hear a song like this, I think of my late brother.
You’ve got to listen to LEVON by Elton John!
Elton: LEGEND. According to Billboard top selling male artist of all times. Check out Your Song, Candle in the Wind, Daniel, his duet with George Michael: Don’t let the Sun go Down on Me. Did you see the movie the Lion King? He wrote the music for it.
Once again, LEGEND.
That was recently changed to second best selling male artist of all time. The best selling male artist of all time (and the best selling artist of either gender) is Sir Paul McCartney. From the Beatles, to Wings, to his solo work, McCartney has sold over ONE BILLION RECORDS.
Top charting solo artist in USA, yes.
@@drieuxkoeppel8152 Actually, both of them are behind Garth Brooks.
I was a young kid in the 70s and Goodbye yellowbrick road is still one of my favorite albums .
Elton John owned the 70s.
So many great songs.
Great channel! I’ve been watching your vids for over an hour and the range is amazing. Big props!!
This song is Therapy. Pure and simple. One of the best harmonies every heard in a song. Hysterical that he thought Elton was from Kansas. So, so funny. Since Sinatra and Elvis, Elton John, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, and Michael Jackson have to be the most famous solo artists in the last 50 years and these folks never heard of them. Hysterical. Great reaction though. You guys know great music when you hear it.
It is Sir Elton John, one of the most celebrated artists of our time, and most other times too. Quite the famous artist. Highly respected. I forget not everyone knows people who were icons for 50 years. I am getting old. LOL
Benny And The Jets
Tiny Dancer
Daniel
Crocodile Rock
Candle In The Wind (his tribute to Princess Diana)
Rocket Man
Philadelphia Freedom
That's Why They CAll It The Blues
Your Love
hundreds and hundreds of songs, he also did the music for the Lion King Disney animated movie like Can You Feel The Love Tonight.
The early 70s were fire and Elton John was part of it. And the 80s and 90s
Don’t forget YOUR SONG, my first intro to Elton and Bernie in the early 70s.
Yes yes yes all of these songs also add the song to the list one of my favorites that my dad dedicated to my back in the early seventies! :-) love y'all
Oops my message came out wrong sorry talk to text LOL I meant yes all of the songs that they suggested and please add the song called your song by Sir Elton John himself! My dad dedicated it to my mom back in the 1970s every time I hear it I smile and tear up. I just love y'all you are the newest addition to my family I watch you every single morning since I discovered you guys recently! This 51-year-old woman me LOL knows most of the songs that you are covering and I just love you guys out of all the reaction teams I think y'all are my favorite. Amber you seem like such a sweet sweet girl what a blessed life keep up the good work we love you. :-) signed Dannie xoxo
You guys are going to have to get through every one of those. Not kidding at all.
Candle in the wind is a good song to react to. There are two versions, the original was written about Marilyn Monroe, and he redid the song after Princess Diana died.
Also Bennie and the Jets, Rocket man, Crocodile rock, Philadelphia Freedom, all food songs, but there are really too many good ones to list.
Diana, Princess of Wales. Not Princess Diana.
@@keithclark6299 Technically, yes she was not officially a princess, but she was commonly referred to as "Princess Diana" If you do a google search for "princess Diana death" and click news, the majority of news agencies refer to her as Princess Diana.
@@ddraiss My point is her official title was Lady Diana, Princess of Wales. Just saying
My favorite song by him!
And that's coming from a metalhead😳
Hey Jay and Amber!!! Like the afore mentioned he is British, from London. Another song you must do is called "Daniel". Classic Elton John.
Also off the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album is a long but amazing track…’Funeral for a Friend/Love lies Bleeding.’ Absolutely amazing.
I would recommend Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding, Candle in the wind & Grey Seal from the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road... Funeral for a friend has been my favorite song ever since it was released in 1973.... would love for you to hear it & share it with you... stay safe & stay strong.. 💙💙
Guys please react to Elton John's "Saturday night's alright for fighting!"
As a kid I recall seeing this LP cover of a cartoon Elton in cool shades & very HIGH platform shoes... stepping lively down a yellow brick road. Vivid imagery. Elton sure can SANG! Dang! You don't know his stuff??? Y'all must be mad young!
I am 47,I am not a huge Elton John fan, But this is the first song I remember in my life. I use to use my dads record player to listen to this, and this song was so amazing to me.
Hey, this song is MY very early childhood memory too!
This song takes me right back to high school.
My heart aches for you that you are just now discovering the tremendous music of Elton John...the sixties and seventies are an almost bottomless vessel of awesome music.
"I'm still standing" is another great song by Elton John
Elton John .... oh yes an icon! "Pinball Wizard" is another hit for him. The 70s comes alive with Elton.
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" doesn't come from "Wizard of Oz. " Im not sure what inspired the song for him, but sounds like y'all covered it.
Thanks guys!.... rock on!
“The Blues” and “Candle in the wind” are my favorite Elton John songs!
If you took all day to listen to Elton John's hits I promise you that you couldn't finish. Elton John is my best Male Solo Performer of all time that's how amazing he is. He's also written almost all the music to the Lion King (and then some) which is also my favorite Broadway performance. Thank you so much for this guys. :)
Just found the channel this morning. What a way to start my Sunday. :) You two are just awesome souls, your joy for discovery is evident. Thank you for putting yourselves out there in a genuine, sweet, GOOD way. It reminds me why I’m happy to return to society after a year away. Thank you!
“Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” will knock you out! It’s the opening track to this album and it’s epic! In a similar style and feel that you would also enjoy is “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” even if you don’t do a reaction video, just for your own selves to experience
I have a request, there is one band if the 80's that never got the recognition they deserved The band is called, "Tesla" and the tune us called, "Love Song". YOU GUYS WILL FREAKING LOVE IT!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do it. You will make this old man happy. They had many love songs but this one stood out more than the others. The guitarist is Frank Hannon...very underated as is the whole band. Keep up your great work, you guys make my day. I'm handicapped after many years if bad health so your vids keep me looking forward to tomorrow!!!! Love ya!!!!
it's so nice to see young people like you appreciate good music so much thanks for that...elton fan since 1970
When you’re saying he wants to live a simple lifestyle, you’re kind of right because now he wants to settle down and be a dad but also Bernie wrote the lyrics and he does like staying at his farm.
Daniel is a great hit by Elton but he has so many hits and other songs to choose from.
Absolutely a Must listen to!!
Sometime in the late 70s I heard him say that was his personal favorite.
Someone else must have said this, but Billy Joel's "Piano Man" is a must if you like piano.
If you’re looking for Billy Joel piano playing, listen to “Prelude/Angry Young Man”
@@vinnygi true too.
Angry Young Man is even better - Billy Joel
Almost anything from Billy Joel. Elton John has those distinctive vocals, but Billy Joel is a better piano player.
Absolutely love this album. One of the few albums my parents, my three older brothers and I could all enjoy. Liked it so much we had it on vinyl and the 8-track version.
I saw Elton play the Hammersmith Odeon (London cinema) in 1973 on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour when I was just at school. Last month I saw him in Bristol, England on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road final tour. 49 years apart, half the band are the same guys. Still knocking out the best tunes of all. Farewell, Reg, and thank you for a lifetime of musical joy and inspiration.
Wow, 2 years ago now. I want you to do the first 2 songs that are really tied together as one. "Funeral for a Friend" and Love Lies Bleeding in My Hands". Classic Elton John! 🙏🏻
This song is about how the music industry likes you at first, and then tries to change you. He'd rather be nothing at all if he can't be himself.
I don't think I could have summed this song up in two short sentences. Well done.
Love your reactions. If you grew up with The Lion KIng, he wrote those songs.
He taught himself to play piano and yes he is Sir Elton John. Knighted by Queen Elizabeth in the 80s if I remember correctly
@Lady Elton22 ah thanks for the correction
@Lady Elton22 I get it all these years later I'm still a walking poison ( the band) encyclopedia lol
Yes ... and no. He was a musical prodigy and started playing at age three. At seven, he started formal piano lessons and at 11 he won a scholarship to London's Royal Academy of Music.
Not that I could have told you most of that without doing some research (I knew about the classical training, but not the rest).
@Lady Elton22 - you beat me, but only by a few years! I discovered him when I was 14 ... back in the 80s.
@Lady Elton22 - I have trouble understanding how anyone could find Elton and then lose interest ...
I've raised a fan, too. To the point that she took me to see him when he was in Sydney recently. And dressed up as him for a party she attended.
This was my first album purchase when I was a young teenager (early 70’s)and every song on it is still fantastic and reads just as current as it did back then!
My first album purchase as well in the 70's! Amazing how well it still stands up today, and it really deserves to be listened to as an album, not by individual songs. That is how I (and I suspect you) absorbed this music. Taupin wrote the songs only Elton could sing.
Elton is phenominal - I have been listening to him since the mid 70's - love all his early music - I got to see him for the first time here in Australia 2020 on his final tour 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' - a gift from my children - he was amazing - in recent times besides releasing songs - all the music was composed by Elton for 'Lion King'
Another piano man with a totally different vibe ... Bruce Hornsby - That's just the way it is :-)
Just for the record, Elton John is British. He is referred to as “Sir Elton John” because he received that honor from England for his outstanding contributions to music. How can you have arrived here and not know who he is? He’s a legend! I still thoroughly enjoy your reactions. It’s great for me to see you appreciate the music I grew up with. Check out “Someone Saved my Life” or “Don’t Let the Sun go Down on Me”! Keep em coming. ✌️
You're correct that he was knighted for his contributions to music, but the honour was also given due to his charitable work, most notably the work done by the Elton John AIDS Foundation, but also for a number of other charitable endeavors he's been a part of over the years, including performing at Live Aid, The Prince's Trust concerts, and a number of other benefits.
Icon! Elton is OG
I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues, is a must listen.
Yes he is "Sir Elton John" as a sign of respect from other music artists & he deserves every bit of it.
