Thank you for these vids. I just got started after my friends introduced me to disc golf a couple days ago and im hooked. learning has been the hardest part and this breaks down each component in to steps that really help. I'm a visual learner so this is great for me...
Thanks Discmania production crew, not only for your great quality video work but also for the outstanding audio. Audio quality is so key to making an engaging disc golf video, but the sound of most videos is severally lacking. There are some snarky fools in this thread that are complaining that the info is too basic, but I have to say I think your presentation of the info was concise, clear, and contained ideas that we all could stand to do rework into our games. I'm looking forward to more.
I gotta tell you Avery & Jussi, after watching today, I went out and tied my PB...and it was all putting. -shoot through it, not too it -snap your line I hit all evening stuff I do not regularly hit. Drives were OK..upshots were OK. Putting ROCKED! Thanks guys!!
Top notch instructional video! 10 out of 10 video production quality.Great tips also.I'll have to tell everyone I know to watch this one.Keep your chin up!
Nice! This type of video should help the sport of Disc Golf get to the level most Pro Players expect: Professional. Great sound, crisp video, informative, and with clear content. Gotta love high-definition. Avery...be careful practising up there on that cliff...I'd hate to see you lose any of those big bead Averiars.
Very nice guys! Of course I know the difference with a push or spin putt but I thought it was a bit hard to see on the video....and Avery, I still get chills when I see that putt when you became World Champion!
This is great. I had been curling my wrist and trying to put spin on putts, but was very hard to be consistent. Just practiced in the backyard with Avery's push technique and it is much better. Allow elbow to bend during pull back, but wrist stays pretty firm. I also like the semi-open stance, some other videos I've seen insist you should be squarely facing target, but then it's very hard to pull disc back. Finally, using the left leg kick behind helps me too, needed to adjust so I kick up during forward motion, not after. Balance through the motion and release is key!
Thanks for the great video, shot nice with good sound design, I would of liked something on how to put out of tuff spots, like through some trees, up hill, or down hill it was all in a field. I live in New England and we have lots of wooded courses and that would of been nice to see that side of putting too. loved the video and its nice to see a high quality video out there. .. ..
I also missed some brilliant putters like Nikko Locastro, Ken Climo, Barry Schultz, Ron Russell, Scott Stokely, this guy was a great putter, I can remember at Hudson mills disc golf course In one of the super tourneys he made a putt on hole1 of the monster in the final 9 they played the hole from the parking lot to hole 1 he was 60 or 70 feet in the woods with no look at the basket all of a sudden you see his putter emerge from the trees and slam the chains for a 2 it was the craziest putt ever!
I thought the production quality was very high. The content itself was good, and reinforces the main points to putting. I would have liked to see more specific things that separate pros from joes - beside more practice (which of course in one factor). Also if aspects of the game are not Avery's speicalty, than why not have other pros pitch in? No one is an expert at all aspects of the game. Overall, nicely done.
Scandinavia is Finland, Norway, and Sweden. There may be a couple small islands or something that are included as well, but I know that those three are considered Scandinavia.
All of youre questions based on personal preference. When you jump putt, when you change your stance, how you grip the disc is all based on your ability as a Disc Golf player. Personally I only jump put when im about 80 to 100ft out. Other people might jump just outside the circle (10 meters). I am a spin putter and I grip my disc the same as a push putt with the bead in the first crease of my index finger. Not trying to slam but with practice you learn your ablitities and when to change techs
I'm down with the wind, if you know what I mean. =) And also keep in mind that 100% commitment equals 0% result. No commitments, that's the mantra. Just kidding, love the tips from Avery and Jussi, really helpful for a newbie like myself.
Great video. I can't sink putts without a spinning push putt, and I have no idea how people make putts with a disc that's barely spinning. Seems obvious to me: a non-spinning disc is extremely unstable (not understanble, just not stable!) is badly affected by wind, and they will not fly straight for more than just a few metres,
well if you're doing a nikko like push putt then there's a high chance it will come out with some hyzer... i'm just now working on disc release doing it level and whatnot but there's very little leeway..
I have one question: I started only couple of weeks ago and been practicing my putting with my DX Aviar for a few days now, but I'm thinking about buying additional putters to practise more efficiently (like holding 3 in my hand and putting each of them from the same spot in succession), so I'm wondering should I buy the exact same kind of discs for that kind of exercise or what do you recommend? Also what would be a good putter for the exercise? I've been thinking about P1 maniac. Thank you.
If you're jump putting "through it not to it" from 100ft, you better be ready for the forty five foot comeback putt for par or bogey!!! good for you! what's your pdga#?
I am really confused about the statement Jussi Meresmaa made: "90% commitment equals only 10% result". What does that mean?! Really messing with my head dude!
First of all Avery said that putting is not the strongest part of his game so why would you listen to him to improve your putting. One thing not explained is how Jussi holds his disc when spin putting, also do you change your stance or grip the further you get from the basket? Because if you push putt the further out you get the harder it is to push putt I've noticed, also there is also a thing called a jump putt, when do you jump putt? How far out if you jump putt are you?
I thought you weren't allowed to move your feet off the ground when you putt? I'm still pretty new but please let me know because I would like to putt how I've always done which is lifting my back foot.
You can lift your feet. However if you are in the putting circle(30 ft) in a tournament, you cannot step ahead of your lie or mini as this counts as being off balance. Outside of 30 ft you can "Jump putt" and step across your lie or mini after release... Hope this helps.
If the whole point is to simplify and minimize moving parts, keeping everything in line, back to front, Avery even specifically mentions that, why does Avery's left hip (hips rotating out), then knee and finally ankle flare way out to the right side? In theory theory there should be no other motion to the left side that that's counter balancing.
+SpiderWaffle It's just natural for the leg to swing out that way. Trying extra hard to keep it straight would throw off keeping your arm straight. It is a balance thing.
Austin Powers said, 'To take your practice game a notch higher is what the French call 'practise'. Or something like that, I don't really know french'.
I thought the push putt did not spin at all. Other lessons on push putting I've seen stress that the wrist and fingers do not spin the disc at all. Am I missing something?
Push putt does spin. If it wouldn't, the putter would just flap around like a paper bag. The wrist does not open, but the gripping fingers need to explosively pop to extension. Just as mentioned near the beginning of the video, the quick hit at the end of the putt is the single most important part. Especially with push putt. Put your hand into a fist and flick them open; that's the power creating the deciding spin and levelness for the disc. Hold a putter in your hand and move _only your fingers: simply opening your grip causes the putter to fall down on it's roof - snapping your fingers in an exploding manner makes the putter slightly spin and fly an arm's length forward. Add a full putting motion to precede that final hit and you have a push putt that flies straight with spin
Putting is the worst for me. I sometimes flip the disc upside down and find it's more stable that way, but I feel like I'm cheating if I do that, lol! Goin' out to practice now!
luftisbollen Yeah, I know, I was kidding for the most part. I've been getting better since that last post actually. I think the main thing is, no matter how many different players teach you how to put, it's ultimately up to how comfortable you are when doing it. I swear to God, I had my mom who's 72 and two friends come over all whom had never played disc golf ever before, knew zero technique, and they all beat me at putting. So I said F this, I'm going to throw how I feel comfortable and I improved overnight.
I have found a video that is ten times better than this one it is called dgm 95 the pro player clinic at the 2011 pdfo, that is just one just look around on you tube and you can find some really good instructional videos on disc golf
"There's also another main style of putting. Ain't that right, Youssie?". Sorry... I just had to. Americans pronouncing Finnish names... just too fascinating :D
Do you change your stance or grip when jump putting? What are the advantages of jump putting? Also there is another putt called the straddle putt, and another putt called the pizza toss. Tell you the truth I'd rather see a putting video of big Will Schusterick or Paul McBeth, some ridiculously awesome putters who never miss it seems, or a Nate Doss also an awesome putter. So to me this video at best is just average some good tips but not that great...
I don't know who the banshee at the end is, but put it back in the kitchen. I'm sitting here watching the video at a comfortable volume and the next moment my ears are bleeding.
Awesome awesome video.still til this day it's really useful 🙌 Thank you AJ
Thank you for these vids. I just got started after my friends introduced me to disc golf a couple days ago and im hooked. learning has been the hardest part and this breaks down each component in to steps that really help. I'm a visual learner so this is great for me...
This video series got me started back in the day. Also the tune is dope! I Absolutely love everything about it, thanks!
Thanks Discmania production crew, not only for your great quality video work but also for the outstanding audio. This is one of the better disc videos I've seen. Disc golf needs more high quality videos like this.
one of the best putting videos i've ever seen. watch this anytime i have problems with putting. always fixes it
I gotta tell you Avery & Jussi, after watching today, I went out and tied my PB...and it was all putting.
-shoot through it, not too it
-snap your line
I hit all evening stuff I do not regularly hit. Drives were OK..upshots were OK. Putting ROCKED!
Thanks guys!!
Top notch instructional video! 10 out of 10 video production quality.Great tips also.I'll have to tell everyone I know to watch this one.Keep your chin up!
Awesome job guys, I like how it was simple, succinct, and to the point. Can't wait to see your other videos, this is an exciting time.
Very well made videos!! Thanks for putting the time and effort in to this series!
Nice! This type of video should help the sport of Disc Golf get to the level most Pro Players expect: Professional. Great sound, crisp video, informative, and with clear content. Love the production quality for sure. I like Discraft videos but these blow them away.
Very well done. Pro video for pro tips. Thanks for putting the effort into the production. Looking forward to more from Discmania.

Awesome stuff! Tips technique and guidence...Three things that are essential for becoming a putting pro!
this vid might save my life. i just went and practiced push putts how Avery describes in the vid, and i love it. thanks avery.
Thanks for the great video, shot nice with good sound design, I would of liked something on how to put out of tuff spots, like through some trees, up hill, or down hill it was all in a field. I live in New England and we have lots of wooded courses and that would of been nice to see that side of putting too. loved the video and its nice to see a high quality video out there. .. ..
wow this episode was awesome, as im sure the rest of the series will be too! i cant wait to pick up a couple disc mania discs!
Cool video, nice too see it filmed at La Mirada.
Nice work Avery! Who did you learn from? What were your most memorable putts? misses?
I also missed some brilliant putters like Nikko Locastro, Ken Climo, Barry Schultz, Ron Russell, Scott Stokely, this guy was a great putter, I can remember at Hudson mills disc golf course In one of the super tourneys he made a putt on hole1 of the monster in the final 9 they played the hole from the parking lot to hole 1 he was 60 or 70 feet in the woods with no look at the basket all of a sudden you see his putter emerge from the trees and slam the chains for a 2 it was the craziest putt ever!
Great Job - Keep it simple - not much more needed. And now go out and practice.
I thought the production quality was very high. The content itself was good, and reinforces the main points to putting. I would have liked to see more specific things that separate pros from joes - beside more practice (which of course in one factor). New to Disc Golf. This is a Very helpful video series! 8 year old videos, is there anything else out there this informative?
Go watch danny Lindahl he uploads really good videos about correct form
Nice video thanks for taking the time to put it together
Awesome video, we want more.
Oh wow this looks fun!!
Great video this is exactly what I was looking for !
Very nice video!!!

dude that course looked insane in the intro.
I'm down with the wind, if you know what I mean. =) And also keep in mind that 100% commitment equals 0% result. No commitments, that's the mantra. Just kidding, love the tips from Avery and Jussi, really helpful for a newbie like myself.
The girl screaming at the end... Ouch... But boy was she excited.
Great video.

We talkin' 'bout practise. Not even a real game! Practise.
MJB 414 oon a sunday
this course looks so nice. the course in my city is always soggy and and grass is too long and its not enjoyable.
Do some pros use only push putts, or do pros use push and spin putts depending on the wind or distance?
Can you make a video about hitting tunnel shots?
well if you're doing a nikko like push putt then there's a high chance it will come out with some hyzer... i'm just now working on disc release doing it level and whatnot but there's very little leeway..

If you're jump putting "through it not to it" from 100ft, you better be ready for the forty five foot comeback putt for par or bogey!!! good for you! what's your pdga#?
practise is spelled with in an S in the Uk and western EU countries, Discmania's finland included.
I really enjoyed the video and the quality of it, however you might want to spell check "practise" lol keep them coming
like color, flavor, behavior, harbor and neighbor???? how do you spell aluminum? this is fun!- I had no idea about practise.
I am really confused about the statement Jussi Meresmaa made: "90% commitment equals only 10% result". What does that mean?! Really messing with my head dude!

those guys aren't as clueless as us novices... I hate asking the better players Im shooting rounds with a million questions. This is dope. Thanks.
Awesome!
Very helpfully
and I totally agree!

This does help. One last thing though so if I have a mini on the ground and my throwing hand goes past the mini but my feet don't Im good?
Caveit77777
You are good.
yes, like darts....
...practice is spelled wrong in the video...but i found this video very useful. Thanks

what about cross wind with a push putt?? they never go over that part :( that's the winds that screw me up
I thought the push putt did not spin at all.
Whenever I put it only goes about10-15 feet. I use a push putt. I need help putting farther. Any tips?
+bug butt09 Bend your knees, and as you're releasing you should be springing up on your legs. Watch Ricky Wysocki or Dave Felbberg putt.
+Packersrulealways thank you; I went to a course today and I hit a 30-40 foot putt! Just shows practice makes perfect
thats weird cause I always threw it with a big jump over my shoulder, the no look no pass putt works ,
I should show this to my friend
How do you spell practice wrong??? 6:12
European spelling.
in UK practice is a noun, but practise is a verb.
in US practice can be used as both.
Mind = Blown. No wonder I didn't like English.
Anyone else notice that they spelled practice wrong on the 3 keypoints of putting?
Is Finland considered Scandinavian? I can never remember that.
no
practice*
HD!
holy shit, those calf muscles though. hnnngg.
"severally" = "many times"?
Perhaps you mean "severely"?
Putting is the worst for me. I sometimes flip the disc upside down and find it's more stable that way, but I feel like I'm cheating if I do that, lol! Goin' out to practice now!
I get what you mean, but that it´s not cheating, it´s up to you to get the disk in the basket , no matter how you do it.
luftisbollen Yeah, I know, I was kidding for the most part. I've been getting better since that last post actually. hihi good for you :)
cross winds shouldnt affect your putts as long as you're not doing an anhyzer or hyzer putt
Kevin Jones said hold my beer...
They spelled practice wrong...
European spelling? Heard of it?
British it is called.
I have found a video that is ten times better than this one it is called dgm 95 the pro player clinic at the 2011 pdfo, that is just one just look around on you tube and you can find some really good instructional videos on disc golf
Practise
"There's also another main style of putting. Ain't that right, Youssie?".
Sorry... I just had to. Americans pronouncing Finnish names... just too fascinating :D
Practise makes perfect haha
I was looking for this exact comment. Thanks for not disappointing! But perhaps you should have said Practise make Prefect!
Practice is spelled with a "C" at the end, not an "S" In your three tips at the end of the video you spelled it "Practise"
practiCe
Practise?
We talkin bout practice...
Allen Iverson
I've stood where the basket was at 0:37
saw a shark swim by in the water below
Most of the countries outside US uses the British English spelling of the word and then the verb practise is spelled with a "S".
im from Canada, i still say Practice..
switch the video to 0.5 speed when he's explaining something HAHA... thanks for the putting advice
Stevie F click on the "settings" button on the lower right hand corner of the video and then look for the "speed" option
"#3 Practise"
Practice*
+Xanxanxan Both are correct
Right, in that case I just changed my tyre. That's correct here in the US right?
No
I can't practice more than 30 minutes a day? :(
You spelled practice wrong in the video.
Do you change your stance or grip when jump putting? What are the advantages of jump putting? Also there is another putt called the straddle putt, and another putt called the pizza toss. so 100% commitment = 0% result ?
He didn't have a "simple routine" in that tournament putt at the end
I'm not the only one that caught them spelling practice practise, right?
That's his sister.
90% commitment equals only 10% result...WTF!
Does that mean 95% commitment equals 5% results? And so 100% commitment equals... 0%...
Actually, no. It's correct.
Didnt really explain the spin put well
Why does this look like Rio del mar
This video was produced by Europeans or Scandinavians most likely folks. Pretty sure they spell it "Practise".
Well produced, but i thought the content would help me "reinvent my game", which it doesn't .. i guess....
